With psychic dinosaurs taking over Manhattan and beyond, it's up to the Century Club to save humanity -- from extinction!
Dinocalypse Now is in print! Find it at your favorite bookstore or at the Evil Hat website.
When the Century Club is called in to prevent the assassination of FDR, it's just another day on the job — but what they discover puts not just the President, but the entire world in jeopardy. With psychic dinosaurs taking over Manhattan and beyond, it's up to Sally Slick, Jet Black, Mack Silver, and the other Centurions to save humanity — from extinction!
This is our first fiction project at Evil Hat. We’ve published pen & paper roleplaying games before, and now we’ve set our sights on expanding into other media.
For our starting point, we’re diving into the wild and wooly world of our in-house 1930s-era pulp adventure setting called Spirit of the Century. In that world, you’ll find flying jet-men, talking apes, and ancient Atlantean technology, along with two swinging fists, mad science, and some snappy patter (not to mention Sally Slick, a Rosie the Riveter type gal who’s aces at inventing new gadgetry). We’re excited to begin!
For this kickstarter, we’re looking to build a community around Dinocalypse Now, a frankly fantastic pulp novel from author Chuck Wendig. But it's more than that; we're here to kick off not just a novel, but an entire fiction line — extending this one novel into a trilogy and exploring other worlds beyond, as well as telling the other tales of the Century Club... Tales that you can help make happen, and even be a part of yourself.
Evil Hat has covered the development costs for Dinocalypse Now, from the roller-coaster writing from Chuck Wendig, the razor-sharp editing from John Adamus, the magnificent cover art from Christian St. Pierre, and the currently-underway layout and conversion to various e-book formats (PDF, ePub, Kindle). We'll also be doing a modest-sized print run if this drive succeeds.
So if you back this project at anyof the levels you see to the right, you’ll get the e-book of Dinocalypse Now within a week of the conclusion of the kickstarter. You’ll be among the first people to read this book, which
won’t go on sale in any form until after every backer has had some time to
download the book.
But more to the point, if we hit our goal of $5000, the second novel, Beyond Dinocalypse, will be green-lit — with writing set to start in September 2012. Once that novel’s done, all backers at any of the reward levels shown to the right will get an e-book copy of Beyond Dinocalypse, too.
But we have stretch goals in mind, too, and we’re happy to share them with you now!
The Stretch Goals
If we raise $7,500, we’ll release free to the internet a Spirit of the Century
RPG adventure digging into the story of the other Centurions of the Century
Club (your game’s characters!) during the events of Dinocalypse Now. Discover the fate
of the Los
Angeles chapter house when psychic Centurion "the Projector" unleashes
his own telepathic counter-strike!
If we raise $10,000, we’ll provide an e-book of the third novel, Dinocalypse Forever, as soon as it’s available (schedule pending), to everyone who backs us at any of the reward levels shown to the right, and backers who have pledged for rewards that include physical copies of Beyond Dinocalypse will be given the option to increase their pledge to get a physical copy of Dinocalypse Forever, too.
If we go beyond $10,000, we’ll devise more! More fiction (expanding our fiction line), audiobook adaptations, more RPG scenarios, and tie-ins with other games from Evil Hat are all on the table, and we'll be asking for your input if the time comes.
What's it look like?
Get a look at the cover art up top and in the video! The handsome softcover and hardcover editions will both be 6" x 9" (about the size of a trade paperback), and approximately 240 pages long. We'll post previews of the look of the interior, too, as the kickstarter drive continues.
Sample Chapters? Reviews?
Yes please! We don't want you to feel like you're buying into this thing sight unseen, so we'll be releasing the first few chapters of Dinocalypse Now over the course of the kickstarter.
In fact, we've already started with the first chapter over on Fred Hicks' blog, Deadly Fredly, and will continue to release another chapter every week of the kickstarter drive. Find them all as they arrive, here:
And you can learn more about the trilogy here:

Chuck Wendig’s novel Double Dead hit shelves in November, 2011. His second novel, Blackbirds, is already getting rave reviews prior to its publication in April of this year. Its sequel, Mockingbird, publishes at the end of 2012.
Chuck has also contributed over two million words to the game industry, and was the developer of the popular Hunter: The Vigil game line (White Wolf Game Studios / CCP). He is a frequent contributor to The Escapist, writing about games and pop culture.

Yes, happy to oblige! You can get more copies, all shipped to the same address. Here are the details:
At the SIDEKICK level, for every $15 more you pledge, we'll ship you another softcover. (So, $25 total for 1, $40 for 2, $55, for 3, etc.)
At the CENTURION level, for every $40 more you pledge, we'll ship you another unsigned hardcover. (So, $50 for 1, $90 for 2, $130 for 3, etc.)
At the MAN ON THE SCENE level, for every $60 more you pledge, we'll ship you another signed, personalized hardcover copy to the same address. (So, $75 for 1, $135 for 2, $195 for 3, etc.)
While you're getting some of this project's goodies right away in the form of Dinocalypse Now, we are definitely asking you for a leap of faith as far as the delivery of the subsequent book (or books) in the trilogy. Here's what we can tell you about that.
First off, Chuck's on board with writing them if they're funded. That is a given. He's ultra professional and very on-point with delivering a quality manuscript that requires very little editing as a first draft. We've already gotten him to "pencil in" September as the starting time for Beyond Dinocalypse, and it should not take more than a few months for him to get the writing work done.
Secondly, we take accessibility very seriously at Evil Hat. Whether you're on twitter, facebook, google+, or email, you'll be able to find and reach Fred Hicks, co-president of the company, and ask him what's up with the project. In most cases you'll get a reply within one business day, if not minutes or hours. Fred doesn't sleep much and checks his "inputs" constantly.
Last, you very likely won't NEED to reach out to Fred, because we'll be keeping you regularly updated via this Kickstarter page as the work progresses. And if you're a follower of Fred's blog, http://www.deadlyfredly.com/, you'll get even more details, as he has a tendency to throw back the curtain and show you what's going on inside Evil Hat. While we won't overwhelm you with updates, it's our goal and our promise to make sure you never feel like you're in the dark, and that you can be confident you'll get all the things you've paid for, here.
We don't believe in DRM ("Digital rights management of unusual obnoxiousness? I don't believe it exis--AAAGH!").
If it's possible to avoid putting DRM on any given format, we will absolutely avoid putting it on said format.
For any of the reward levels shown, backers will get an e-book copy of Dinocalypse Forever at no additional cost.
Folks who want a softcover of Dinocalypse Forever will have the opportunity to buy into an upgrade tier (Three Fists!) at $65 that'll include everything in the Two Fists tier.
Folks who want a hardcover of Dinocalypse Forever will also have an upgrade tier (Triplet Hammers!) at $150 that'll include everything from the Twin Hammers tier.
At Field Agent and above, a physical copy of Dinocalypse Forever will be included at no additional cost.
We'd happily send along a copy of Spirit of the Century to any backer at SIDEKICK or above who adds another $25 (that's the cover price, minus the cost of the PDF that you'll already be getting) to their pledge level. Make sure to tell us when we send out the surveys at the end of the project!
For GUEST STARS and the MILLENNIAL, we'll happily include a copy too upon request, no additional charge.
It is not true! BUT, if we fall short of $10k, backers won't get the e-book of the third book, and the third book may take a lot longer to come out as we'll need to rely on revenue from sales of the first two to supply the production budget for the third.
Its dimensions are 14.5" x 18.25" x 6.5".
We're absolutely going to get the e-books and physical books out on our own webstore at http://www.evilhat.com/store after the Kickstarter campaign is done. We'll also be working on getting our e-books into Amazon, B&N, and iBooks, along with the DriveThru(RPG,Fiction, etc) family of sites.
Physical bookstores and online stores for physical books are going to be trickier. Getting our physical books into stores, online and otherwise, comes down to how well they can find our books with our distribution partners -- and who our distribution partners *are*. So much as I'd like to give you a definitive "yes!" the only thing I can guarantee for the physical books is the Evil Hat webstore -- for now -- along with a couple game-store retailers who've already backed this project. But the possibility of a much wider reach exists -- I just can't say how quickly it might happen.
Nope. You'll get 'em all: Kindle, ePub as suitable for both Nook and iBooks, and PDF.
