About this project
TL;DR: Evil Hat needs your support to put a number of our ready or nigh-ready Fate products into print. With your help, we'll be able to go from bits to books ASAP!

In 2013, Evil Hat Productions broke records with the Fate Core Kickstarter. Many of you helped us to expand the Fate line beyond our wildest expectations, and that’s ushered in a new era for Fate and for Evil Hat as a company. In 2016, we want to build on that success and return to Kickstarter in a big way, and part of that is a two-Kickstarter push we've named Fate More.
In Fate More Part 1 (this Kickstarter campaign), with your help we'll take a slate of otherwise digital-only releases and turn them into print books for your shelves and game stores everywhere. We've got the content ready or nearly ready to go—we just need your help to make it into real, live books!
In Fate More Part 2 (slated for later this year), we'll ask for your help to expand the Fate line even further, by funding and launching efforts to create a line of Toolkits that extend the work we began in the Fate System Toolkit. More content, more books!
From Bits to Books
2015 was great for Fate. We launched War of Ashes: Fate of Agaptus, the Dresden Files RPG supplement The Paranet Papers, and a number of settings for Fate via our Fate Worlds of Adventure Patreon campaign. We also made a lot of progress on our projects-in-development for Fate, creating a lot of new content that's primed for digital release in 2016, some of which was made possible by the Fate Core Kickstarter.
And there's the rub: we've got a lot of stuff we can release in digital form over the next few months, but we'd like to release all of it in physical-book form as well, as soon as possible. And with your help, we'll be able to do just that.
Here's what we're looking to put into print with that initial funding goal, with more to come as we move on into the stretches. With our initial funding, you'll help us put not one but two books into print!

“Hang on, is Evil Hat double-dipping here? I've seen some of this stuff on another crowdfund!”
If you’ve been following the Hat for a while, you might very well ask us a pointed question here. “But isn’t this double-dipping?” you’d say, scratching your forehead in puzzlement. “Because some of the Fate More (Part 1) KS products are also in the Fate Core KS (or the Evil Hat Patreon)?” And we’re glad you asked, imaginary member of the Fate Corps! Because it brings to light an important issue we’ve been dealing with behind the scenes for some time.
Backers at $4 or higher will get a digital copy of the Venture City content—including the already-released Venture City Stories and the not-yet-released Venture City Powers supplement. In fact you'll get it immediately upon backing (see Update #1 for more)!
Backers at $10 or higher will get all the digital content—including as-yet unreleased material—that has a print version funded by this campaign. We'll send this content to you as soon as the campaign concludes... or maybe even earlier.
(If you backed 2013's Fate Core kickstarter, you may already be due a digital copy of some of these titles. You do not need to back at this level to get those digital copies. This is a chance for folks who missed out on that campaign to access some of what we covered there.)
Backers at $20 or higher (plus shipping) will have the option via BackerKit to select a book for shipment as soon as they're all printed up. Add more to your pledge if you want to select more than one book!* See below for the details about the books.
* For international backers, the shipping cost rises significantly with each pound added to the package, so you'll need to add in more for shipping for each additional book, too, as explained in the reward tier description. We're doing our best to keep this as affordable as possible, but as you probably know by now, that deck is stacked against us. :)

For domestic backers, Media Mail shipping is more friendly, so your shipping charges don’t increase with additional books.
And naturally, we are big fans of game store retailers, and this Kickstarter is all about making sure we have more things that we can put on their shelves. For those stores who can afford the hang-time to support us, we have a retailer-oriented reward tier as well. Details in the sidebar!
We're starting out with two books, and as we hit further stretch goals we'll add more.

International Shipping: The Details
Shipping kills, friends. Shipping kills. And it's getting worse every day. So know, now, that you are embarking into troubled waters here. We're doing our best to get you a sturdy ship that can weather such hazards without breaking the bank, but it's been hard and it's getting harder.
Okay, But I Want These Books. What Are My Options?
If you can't wait and want to participate in this Kickstarter, you're welcome to! We've cut our costs about as much as we can here, with our $15 shipping for one book + $10 per additional book rate.
To get that rate, we're partnering with fellow Kickstarter-ers & game publishers Magpie Games (the folks behind the excellent Fate Codex among other things) to handle our international orders, making use of Fedex International Mail Service (FIMS). This is getting us a rate as low as the one we're offering. If we used our usual other methods it would be considerably more expensive!
FIMS pulls a nifty trick to manage costs: all of our international packages go into (in essence) a big sack which is then shipped to Europe as a single shipment. On arrival, the individual shipments then all get shipped out using considerably lower-cost local-market mail services. (Which even has a cost savings for packages heading to countries outside of Europe.)
The books funded by this kickstarter will be available for sale to the international market once they're in print, so if you'd rather wait, that's totally fine. European access is practically a guarantee; we have a good relationship with several distributors that serve the UK and Europe.
If you want to stay apprised of developments on this project, consider backing us at one of the digital levels—even for $1, a low-cost way to "subscribe" to this project's updates.
Another good option is to contact a retailer closer to you and arrange for them to order the books you want! Evil Hat's books are distributed and sold to and by game retailers in multiple international markets, including Canada (served by Lion Rampant distribution), Australia (dependent on individual retailers placing orders with us), the United Kingdom (distributed by Esdevium to many stores in the UK and Europe, including Leisure Games), and Germany (often carried by Sphärenmeisters Spiele), for starters.
Or you can find a way to effectively "pretend" to be a domestic backer by finding a person or organization in the US that can receive a package for you, then get it to you in a way you're willing to afford. (We've heard mention of Ship It To as one option, tho we have no experience with them ourselves.)
International retailers without a reliable distribution source for our books may pledge for the RETAILERS ONLY reward tier—so long as you have a US-based address for us to ship to. Freight forwarders are your friend!
We'll be offering all of our in-print book products as add-ons in BackerKit after the campaign ends. If you want to increase your pledge now with that in mind (and to help us hit our goals), that's A-OK! This also gives you options in case you find you've "overpledged" by the time the campaign concludes.
As far as shipping goes —
Domestically, nothing changes; the flat $10 fee for a media mail shipment that you'll automatically be asked to include as part of your pledge has you covered. Pile on the books!
Internationally, there's a small break for the thinner books. If a book's price is $12 or less, you don't need to add anything to your shipping total (this covers Fate Accelerated, Spirit of the Season, and the four single-world books: Aether Sea, Romance in the Air, Save Game, and Secrets of Cats). Books above $12 will still need to add $10 per item, though, as the pounds start stacking up quickly.

Risks and challenges
Evil Hat is an experienced game publisher. We've produced multiple printed roleplaying games in a variety of physical formats, as well as three board games and multiple sets of dice over the past nine-plus years. When we say we'll deliver a bunch of books quickly and on time, we mean it.
Evil Hat's experience puts us in a fine position to take on the risks and challenges that arise. As with any project, experience tells us a few problems and bugaboos *will* arise.
Here's what we can anticipate as potential problems.
DISTANCE: The books will be manufactured in the USA. Physical manufacture can always introduce complications, particularly when it comes time to ship items in bulk, but keeping this operation domestic affords us considerable flexibility and insulation against those risk factors.
SCHEDULE: There's always a chance we'll be asking the printer to print up a bunch of books right when their schedule gets busy. While this may bump our timeframe, it will likely only be by a couple weeks. If we've done our math right, there should be padding to absorb that.
MANUFACTURE: Problems can happen during the manufacturing process. Prototypes and proofs don't turn out like you'd expect. Materials and paper stock thought to be readily available might take longer to procure. File revisions might require a second round of prototyping. These issues, too, can create delays.
SHIPPING: Packages get lost. We'll work with you to send replacements. Our shipper may take longer than expected. We won't put the products on sale until they've shipped out all backer copies. Shipping costs can end up higher than expected. We'll absorb the overage.
FINANCES: Thanks to the success of the Dresden Files RPG and Fate Core, Evil Hat is—for the game industry—a perhaps atypically solvent game company. We've already spent thousands to get these games to this point, and our bank account continues to look healthy. If an unexpected cost arises, we've got the cushion to take the hit.
