We love gaming accessories, and we know you do too! That’s why we’re excited to bring you the latest and greatest in Fate Dice and Fate Points—new colors, patterns, and materials to make your table as gorgeous as your games.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with our dice, Fate Dice are a premium line of Fudge Dice. Each set contains four 16mm dice, and they come in packs of three (12 dice total) or single packs (4 dice total) to best suit your needs and budget. When we began designing our dice line, we focused on creating high quality dice with beauty and heft. As with our previous dice runs, we’re bringing even more color combinations that have never been on the Fate/Fudge Dice market before. Our goal is to make dice that you can display proudly alongside all the other fancy dice in your collection. We know you have one. We do too.
But we’re not done there. Fate fans have been asking us for Fate Points for ages, and we’re bringing them to you with the same attention to detail and material that we’ve brought to our dice. These come 30 in a pack, built to match one of our favorite sets of dice.
And there may or may not be more Fate Point options hiding in the stretch goals somewhere, because we’re fairly sure we’re not the only ones who got a little hyper at the idea of matching our Fate Points and our dice.
Scroll down to our "Rewards" section below for a closer look at what we've revealed!
We’re launching with a set of Accelerated Core Dice and matching Fate Points and then moving on to our first set of layered dice stretch goals. Those goals are representative of what we’ve got planned—Fate Point sets, single sets, and never-before-seen layered Fate Dice in color combos that make us drool. As we (hopefully) smash through these goals, we’ll reveal more! More colors, more materials, and more accessories to make your table as gorgeous as your games.
If you've been following this Kickstarter since the beginning, you'll notice some changes in our tiers! Check out Update #4 for more information on that.
A simple guide to pricing:
- 3 dice sets (such as the Accelerated Core set and other "trio" sets): $15
- Fate Point sets (such as the Accelerated Core Blue set): $12
- Single-player, layered sets (such as the Infernal set): $8
- Single-player, non-layered sets (such as our Fire and Midnight Fate Dice sets): $6
All you need to do is pledge for one of the accessories you want. It doesn’t matter which one! With any tier, you can add on additional dice or points by upping your pledge.
In BackerKit, you’ll be able to tell us what products (and what styles) you specifically want. You'll also be able to add on some of our existing dice sets (and possibly more Ghost Dice, if they're available) if that's something you're interested in.
Shipping Charges Added Later: You’ll notice that we haven’t included the shipping here. We will be charging a flat $5 shipping fee to all non-retailer pledge levels in BackerKit. Eliminating the shipping charges from the initial funding makes it possible for us to offer lower flat rate shipping plus a lower funding goal—and hopefully we’ll unlock those stretch goals quicker as a result!
Shipping Timeline: We’ll be shipping all rewards out by December 2018, although we’re hoping to get them to you sooner. There’s a bit of variability in that timeline because of the whole “slow boat from China” phenomenon—missing a window here or there can result in widely different delivery times. But we feel confident stating that December would be our latest delivery window.
International Shipping: We are sad to say this, but we’re only able to offer US shipping for this Kickstarter. International shipping costs mean that our international folks would end up paying more than double in order to get their dice. But we’ll be offering all of the funded accessories through distribution at the same price, so you’ll be able to get them once that happens. If you absolutely can’t wait, you might be able to use a freight forwarder of your choice to get a better price than we’re able to offer.
We've structured this Kickstarter to give you a sense of what we've got planned here from the get-go. We've got our initial funding goal 3-pack, followed by stretch goals for Fate Points, layered sets, and single sets. As we unlock those goals, we'll add reward tiers to match. Stretch Goal sets 2 and 3 will bring you more options in each of those categories: 3-packs, Points, layered sets, and single sets.
Free Ghost Dice with All Shipments!
When we were making the already-in-stores Frost Dice, we ended up with a big pile of gorgeous mistakes—an icy-blue translucent set that thawed our frosty hearts but just didn’t fit into the set the way we wanted. We’ve been calling them Ghost Dice, and every backer (who's having a shipment come their way) will get a free set of four in their shipment!
OUR INITIAL FUNDING GOAL (UNLOCKED): $12,500 Accelerated Core Dice (3 pack)
We’re starting strong with our Accelerated Core 3-pack. Folks familiar with the out-of-print Fate Core dice might recognize the color scheme here, but this set is new and updated. Like the Core dice, the Accelerated Core set contains four dice each in iridescent blue, green, and purple, inked in white. But we’re bringing more vibrant colors to the set, with a little added sparkle. They’re Core dice, only accelerated. (Our 12-die trio sets are priced at MSRP $15.)
OUR OTHER INITIAL FUNDING GOAL (UNLOCKED): Accelerated Core Blue Fate Points
Match your Fate Points to your dice? Yes please! The Accelerated Core Blue Fate Points are made from the same iridescent blue material as the Accelerated Core Dice. They’re debossed (like embossing, but with sunken markings instead of raised) with the Fate logo on one side, and a starburst point on the other, both in white ink. The points are one inch in diameter and 4mm thick (about the size of an American quarter, but thicker). With this set of 30 points, you’re sure to succeed with style. (Each 30-token pack will be priced at MSRP $12.)
UNLOCKED: Infernal Dice (layered)
We’re tempted to sell our souls for our first set of layered dice. This set of four is layered with a deep black cherry color on the outsides, brightening to an infernal red in the middle, all set off by white ink. On the prototype below, you’ll notice that the symbols are inked on the layered sides. We’re testing to see whether we can turn them, so you’ll be able to get the full effect of the gorgeous layers on the blanks. (Our single-player 4-die layered sets will be priced at MSRP $8.)
LOCKED: $32,500: Malachite Dice (layered)
LOCKED: $42,500: Aquatic Dice (layered)
Beginning in shallow turquoise waters, the layers of this set descend through deepening ocean blues before settling in indigo depths. Inked in white. On the prototype below, you’ll notice that the symbols are inked on the layered sides. We’re testing to see whether we can turn them, so you’ll be able to get the full effect of the gorgeous layers on the blanks. (Our single-player 4-die layered sets will be priced at MSRP $8.)
LOCKED: $52,500: Sky Dice (layered)
LOCKED: Further Stretches
But wait…there’s more! Okay, maybe we sound like an infomercial, but there really is more. We’ve got some exciting stretch goals lined up, with more colors and materials of each type of reward. That means more Fate Dice and more Fate Points! We’ll start revealing these further goals after we unlock the earlier ones.
OTHER ADD-ONS AVAILABLE IN BACKERKIT
Now, you might be thinking that we’ve already got some gorgeous Fate Dice options available in the market, so why are we tackling new ones? It’s a good question. To put it simply, Fate’s fandom has grown by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years. The success of games like Fate Core and the Dresden Files RPG, along with Fate’s recent appearances on shows like Tabletop and The Adventurer’s Guild, have resulted in a lot of new Fate gamers. In the meantime, we’ve also grown as a company. This is a prime opportunity for us to revitalize the Fate Dice line—replacing some of the less popular sets with some new and interesting patterns, and adding an affordable Fate Point option to the mix. It's a project that excites us, and one that really represents how much Evil Hat and Fate have grown. We couldn't do it without you, so we (and our dice bags) thank you!

Risks and challenges
Evil Hat is an established game company with a proven track record of delivering high quality games and game products. We've got the experience with Kickstarter and with making games to make this a smooth process all the way.
Finances: Our record of success puts us in a strong financial position for taking some risks in manufacturing dice. What this boils down to is simple—we've got the money to absorb any cost overruns we experience with this Kickstarter. Your dice will get made and they will be coming to you, full stop.
Supplier: Furthermore, we've partnered with Grand Prix International, a big name in games manufacturing, to make these accessories a reality. GPI made our existing Fate Dice sets, as well as some of our board game products, and we’ve found them very easy to work with. Confidence in GPI is very high.
Shipping: Packages get lost. We'll send replacements. Shipping can take longer than expected. We won't put the dice on sale until all backer sets have shipped out. Shipping costs can end up higher than expected. We'll absorb the overage.
Time factor: The real cost of any big physical manufacturing product like dice and points is felt in time as much as money. Delays can and do happen, due to safety testing, package and prototype reworking, and more. That said, we've been able to invest the money to move us along to the point of having real, physical prototypes in hand for our new dice, and we’ve got experience behind us to expedite the rest of the process, including the Fate Points. It will still be several more months before we have everything made, shipped, and ready to go at our warehouse, of course—that's the reality of a manufacturing job like this. That said, we are definitely going to be dealing with a "slow boat from China" factor here, which is always a bit of a wild-card.
If there's any risk or challenge YOU can think of that we haven't mentioned here, please ask. We love to answer questions, and we do our best to provide an unparalleled customer service experience whenever possible.
