Shipping Phase Concludes: Here Are Some Wrap-Up Topics

Aaaand we're done! Everything that is supposed to be shipped should be shipped by this point, and will be arriving over the next few weeks. See our prior updates for more details on all that. But! There's more to be said, so here's a grab-bag of short topics as we round out this phase.

Tracking Info Will Take Forever

Much like last time, it's going to take us a long while to get the tracking info back from the shipping service. Copy-and-pasting thousands of tracking numbers isn't the highest priority for folks who must weigh their time spent doing that vs. their time actually getting packages out the door. As with our earlier big ship-out, we're expecting most folks to have their stuff before we can send them their tracking updates.

A few of you towards the end may have gotten an email from Alliance telling them a tracking number — they're just now starting to experiment with emailing tracking updates themselves instead of to us, so a few of you got guinea-pigged in that process!

Bookmark Shortage

Oops! We're told the shipper ran about 1200 bookmarks short towards the end of the big ship-out process. Rather than delay packages by two or more weeks, we figured folks wanted their books most of all and fast as possible, so we told them to go ahead and ship without.

Our plan from here is to figure out a way to get the bookmarks up for sale on our webstore once we can get a reprint over to the warehouse. We'll probably sell them for 50-60 cents each (this will cover the per-item "pick fee" that must be paid for each separate item the shippers pack — and each bookmark counts as an separate item) and a minimum order quantity of 10. We'll also look into providing the source PDF files in case folks want to print their own at home.

Note, the same info that's on the back of the bookmarks is also on a reference card with the Deck of Fate, so if you're planning on buying a Deck from DriveThruCards, that may be good enough for ya! (Plus: Deck! Of! Fate!)

Need a Customs Invoice?

Several of our international backers have reported that their packages are getting held up by customs with a need for an invoice. We've got you covered. Grab this Word doc template and fill out the highlighted areas — don't forget to tally up the numbers, as it doesn't auto-calculate — and print it out to give to your customs folks. Should do the trick — several folks have already gotten it and used it to good effect.

Fate Freeport Companion Update

As we've announced previously, Evil Hat is going to be partnering with Green Ronin to put the Fate Freeport Companion into print. You'll be able to get it from us through our webstore, and we'll be printing enough to get the book into distribution and thus into game-stores as well.

We're planning to send the files to the printer on Monday. The last item to be finalized is the character sheet. Here's a link to a discussion on the Google+ Fate Core community where we preview the character sheet and are looking for feedback over the weekend. Thanks for any help or commentary you can provide over there!

Enter the Omega Zone!

Long-time friend of the Hat Tim Rodriguez has launched a new kickstarter for The Omega Zone, a Fate Accelerated setting delivered via a deck of cards. It's a swank idea! We saw a prototype of this at Metatopia just a few weeks ago and are very excited by what Tim has done to modularize the process of quickly setting up a game of Gamma World style mutants and mayhem. We hope to work with Tim on more projects in the coming year, including, maybe, an extension of his Omega Zone concept to other things. Check it out (including the crazy/kooky/fun art) and consider giving him some backer-love. It's a deserving project.

Mailing List Sign-Up

Over 8000 of you have already opted in to be a part of the Evil Hat mailing list. Rather than hit all our past Kickstarters with news of new product releases and new kickstarter launches and more, we intend to focus on getting the word out via our mailing list in the long term. That's not to say we won't post relevant news items to specific Kickstarters occasionally, but we want to keep your kickstarter-sourced clutter to a minimum. So if you haven't yet, but are interested in staying on top of what's coming around from the Hat, make sure you're on our list! Sign-up form found at the following link.

And that's it!

Thanks for reading all of this. But really, thanks for everything! We're super excited to wrap up the rewards shipping phase of this campaign (about $120,000 in shipping costs later, with both ship-outs combined)... but we're even more excited about the projects we have ahead in 2014 that you made possible: Young Centurions, Shadow of the Century, Do: Fate of the Flying Temple, Dresden Files Accelerated, and more. Make sure you're on our mailing list (see above) for news about those as they get released, as well as for other news about things outside of this kickstarter (like the Atomic Robo RPG and Fate Dice, just to name a couple). We'll see you there!

Will do, Fred. Thanks very much for the reply.

That's not super unusual (some packages can take a month or so to get to an international address) but it's certainly getting a bit longish. Drop us an email at feedback at evilhat dot com with greater detail (address you believe it's shipping to, tracking number you were given) and I can ask the shippers to comment.

I'm not seeing any activity on my package (coming to me in the UK) since "Processed at USPS Origin Sort Facility" on November 9th. Should I be concerned?

There are about 30 packages from October 17th that were picked up by the post office and then never heard from again. The shippers have a ticket open with the post office to figure out WTF happened there. Reshipping will happen if they aren't found.

    5. Thomas James Egan on December 1, 2013

Not too worried yet, even though my tracking number shows the last activity was "Electronic Shipping Info Received" on October 17th. The email with tracking number was November 19th. I've waited longer on things to come through USPS before.

I know my tracking number just told me it arrived at my local post office yesterday, I was half afraid it had gone MIA since there hadn't been any updates on it in nearly a month. Too bad I didn't get the notice until after the post office was closed so I couldn't go pick it up. Now I have to hope they are open tomorrow so I can get my books!

What does the tracking number you were recently emailed indicate?

    8. Alan Kohler on November 25, 2013

If my books haven't arrived, should I be worried yet?

My quintet of books arrived today on NSW's mid-north coast of Australia. Great kickstarter, great books and great game. Thank you to everybody who was involved.

I don't think I've ever seen such a well-executed Kickstarter. From start to finish, you folks have been so proactive about communicating practically every detail, it's been just amazing. It's wonderful to be able to have such confidence in a Kickstarter project. Congratulations to the entire team for a fantastic job!

I got my books on Friday and am so excited! Thank you, again!

Best kickstarter ever: Great products, fulfilment, communication and community building.
I'm definitely looking forward to 2014.

    12. Michael Pedersen on November 16, 2013

Fred, just to make sure you know how much it's appreciated: This kickstarter could not have been better run from my perspective. Books were somewhat delayed, but the communication about the delays was so stellar that I felt as if the delays were fully justified. Add in how much we got as benefit thanks to those delays, and the end result was better than justifiable.

You have done a fantastic job. I'll be there for future kickstarters, and I'll be watching your store for when I can get extra stuff.

If there was anything I would have liked to see different, I wish you had made an actual profit. I firmly believe that your company deserves that much out of how well this was done. At the very least you've managed to get a product line going, and that will have to be enough to make me happy.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Woohoo! I'm amongst the last and I just got my tracking info. I know where my books are! I second steve kyer's comment on how well this kickstarter has run. I'm very pleased with what I got and how long it took to get it. I know you guys took a beating shipping your wares to we Australians, but hopefully the goodwill this KS generated and our continued support will pay you back over time. I will certainly try to back anything else you do. I'm looking forward to seeing Freeport in print, and will pick that up as soon as it's available.
      Thanks again!

My books just arrived here in Australia. They're in pristine condition and could not have been packaged any better. Everyone involved has done a wonderful job and demonstrated how best to run and complete a kickstarter project.

I purchased numerous Fate Dice from the lovely people at Good Games Canberra and look forward to them hitting the table along with these books.

Thanks Fred and everyone at Evil Hat, it's always a pleasure.

My books just arrived yesterday! Everything looks great, really happy I backed this Kickstarter. Now if I can just get my friends to play...

That financial transparency breakdown is great. I wish certain other kickstarters would do the same thing. And I love how you view this as a start to your business and not a way to guarantee a profit. It's about kickstarting a product line to be able to make profits in the future.

    17. Arthur Dent on November 15, 2013

      Got the last books yesterday.

Thank you for a really well run Kickstarter, it was a blast from start to end.

Some financial transparency from the #FateCore kickstarter… and what we actually kickstarted.

Just looking at that pretty stack of Fate Core books by my computer makes me smile!

      That is all. :)

From front to back, this has been an amazing kickstarter to be in! All the different touches were appreciated and noted. From the release of the pdfs to help proof the books, to asking us if we would like to enroll in an e-mail mailings instead of just appending us to an existing list and putting it on us to remove ourselves from said list. I, for one, have been completely happy with what Evil Hat and its many minnions have accomplished here. Good on ya folks, and thanks for all the fish!

    22. Gaston Keller on November 15, 2013

Awesome kickstarter, Hat! I'm only too sorry I couldn't get my hands in some of those shiny and colourful Fate Dice. I'll have to add them to my Christmas list! =D

My books turned up yesterday here in the UK, they're really good, thanks for a great kickstarter.

Got my books yesterday. It is so strange seeing them in print, after doing the eBooks. :) This was a great Kickstarter
