Significant Milestones

Posted by Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions (Creator)

Hello, Fate Corps!

As we enter the final week of our Fate Dice kickstarter campaign (with the dark and dreamy Vampire Dice set almost within reach!), things remain hopping over on the Fate Core side of things too.

The big-news, single-sentence update today is simply this: We've sent the files for Fate Core over to the printer. (So get in your address corrections now, if you haven't!)

This version of Fate Core is going to be amazing. With your funding we were able to get gobs of incredible art from our Fate Core artist, Kurt Komoda. We've been through four revision and/or proofreading passes since the first draft we shared with you in December.

And signs are really good: the communities we're plugged into are having a blast with the game, and all indications point to folks really "getting" the material. Last week's proofreading pass did uncover a few typos and one or two areas for tweaking the clarification of the rules. While no book goes to press perfect, Fate Core will be more perfect than others -- thanks to all of you!

We also got some great news over the weekend about Fate Accelerated Edition (FAE). Our artist is done ahead of schedule! This improves the chances we'll be able to get FAE out at nearly the same time as Fate Core (Fate Core will take a few extra weeks to print and ship, but it has a head start), which is our ideal public launch scenario.

All this means that soon we'll be able to start the work on converting Fate Core and Fate Accelerated into mobi and epub formats, as well as into system reference document (SRD) forms for release under the Open Gaming License (OGL) and Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY). We hope to release those close to the official publication dates for print and PDF format in July, but the work could take longer than that window allows. We'll only know for sure by getting the work done!

So what's where we're at this week! Please do come join us over on the Fate Dice Kickstarter if you're so inclined, and to tide you over to our next update, we'll leave you here with a preview of some of Claudia Cangini's excellent art for Fate Accelerated. Onward!

Thx, good to hear about 200-201 :)

(200-201 also doesn't suffer if the middle of its image falls into the curve of the pages as they're bound in the middle. 154-155 would, if continued straight across.)

154-155 were rendered as separate images where it wasn't 100% sure if they'd be positioned quite like they were. So there is no missing interstitial material there to join them up. :)

That's not the case with 200-201, and as I was getting Fate Core ready for the printer, I did in fact join those up. :)

Hello Fred, I realise this might be too late to do anything about it, but I just thumbed through the May 06 RC version of the pdf, and jad to know: is there a print-related reason why the double sided illustrations on pages 154-155 and 200-201 don't "meet" in the middle, like, for example, the character sheet on pages 6-7 is split, or is it something else entirely?

New address. 4-6 week print production timeframe from our printer, and adding that to our "files to printer" date puts things shipping from the printer to our warehouse at June 10th at the earliest. That shipping would add a week. So it's looking like mid to late June as the start of our window for shipping out multiple thousand packages.

Hey Fred, I'm moving on June 8th... should I give you a new address or do you think it'll arrive before then?

      These illustrations are teh awesomes...

Must say I like the art we got going here. It's got a feel to it I like.

That is the plan. It has to be included by hand each time it's exported, tho, so that's why we haven't bothered previously.

This is a small request but, on the final version of the PDFs, could the cover of the books be included at the first page? Thanks for the consideration!

...FAE is going to be a sexy, sexy book.

Final PDF will go out to backers soon as I'm at high confidence about it being good to go. That may be a few weeks, as I want to review the physical product proof as part of getting it printed first.

Fate System Toolkit is currently in editing and will be getting kicked back to its constituent authors for revisions soon.

Fantastic news. I skimmed the RC of Fate Core and FAE and am really happy with how these books are going to look.

Easily answered with a click, but no, they haven't. The realities of shipping remain as they were at the time of launch.

Have more international options shown up on the FATE Dice project?

      That is some BADASS art!
