Ted Naifeh and Space Goat Publishing Presents: The HEROINES Graphic Novel.
HEROINES is a superhero comic adventure from Ted Naifeh. You may know Ted from his all-ages titles like Courtney Crumrin, Polly and the Pirates, and Princess Ugg. With Heroines, Ted tackles the world of superheroes with humor and social commentary.
HEROINES is the flagship title of Space Goat's Backpack Editions imprint--and Ted's first crowdfunded campaign! The 6x9 digest-size Heroines graphic novel completes the entire Heroines series in one book. Eight chapters totaling over 200 pages of content created by Ted Naifeh awaits you.
HEROINES tells the story of Marcy Madison, a bright young woman fresh out of college, and ready to use her boundless optimism and nifty superpowers to save the world. But New York's high profile team of superheroes, the New Sentrymen, aren't so impressed by an inexperienced college girl with big dreams, and blow her off. Determined to blaze her own trail, she puts an ad up on Craigslist, advertising for like-minded ladies who want to make a difference, and feel like the world won't give them the opportunity.
Of course, What she finds is a bunch of misfits. Some are just dreamers. Some are hopelessly jaded. Others might be nuts. On the other hand, don't you have to be a bit crazy to be a superhero? But when she finds herself in the middle of a bank-robbery perpetrated by the terrifying ex-superhero Thundergirl, It's the jaded, unhinged misfits who answer her call for help.
Marcy suddenly finds herself the leader of a genuinely impressive, capable superhero team. But it doesn't take long to realize that the life of a superhero is a very murky world, where corporate superpowers provide the funding for superhero activities, and right and wrong are soon turned upside down.
“All my life, I've been a fan of superheroes in one form or another,” said creator Ted Naifeh. “And I've always wanted to explore the genre, to see if I could tease out something new. Working outside the mainstream and with readers directly on Kickstarter gives me the creative freedom to do just that.”
But that’s not all, we’re also giving the backers opportunity to pledge for a copy of volume 1, signed by Ted Naifeh, in addition to their copy of the Heroines graphic novel. Backers will get to see original concept and layout work for Heroines as well as be able to pledge at a tiers that include cameos in the second half of Heroines: The Graphic novel.
Still not convinced? Below is a link to the first digital chapter of Heroines!

We will always have a unique tier just for you--which is why we are offering you an exclusive tier of your own that includes 5 copies of the Heroines graphic novel. If you have questions or want to order more than 5, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Librarians, this is for you too!
The story of Heroines is currently only half told. The crowdfunding campaign is designed to raise funds for the second story arc and the manufacturing of the graphic novel. Ted has an amazing fan base and wants the opportunity to give them exclusive content that wouldn’t otherwise become available.
With Kickstarter Ted can stream his work in progress on these books, draw commissions of fans and answer live questions. Kickstarter allows for backers to have their voices heard and to participate in the community that fell in love with Courtney Crumrin, Princess Ugg and the first volume of Heroines. Kickstarter is the perfect platform for Ted to work directly with you, his fans and loyal readers.
Kickstarter also allows us to unlock quality upgrades such as embossed covers, ribbon bookmarks, foil stamping and so much more. With your help, we can create one of the most spectacular super hero books.
Shipping will not be charged during the campaign. Shipping will be charged after the Kickstarter ends based on actual shipping costs and is collected via Backerkit. This allows us to charge shipping fairly for all backers and avoid a "one size fits all" mentality to shipping.
Below are the estimated shipping costs, these may change based on the actual tier pledged, stretch goals unlocked, or as optional buys are adding onto individual orders.
US - $10.00
CA - $15.00
International (where available) - $20.00
Risks and challenges
Risks and Challenges:
Ted Naifeh and Space Goat Publishing have decades (and decades) of combined experience producing comic books, graphic novels, table top games, TV, animation, video games, commercial art, and concept design.
Graphic novels are our bread and butter. This is Ted Naifeh's fifth major series after Courtney Crumin and Princess Ugg. After years of writing and illustrating books, Ted is at ease with this form of media and the production pace it entails. Space Goat as a company has been publishing comic books for over two years and we’ve been making them since our inception.
The digital files for the first half of this book are prepped and the vendor-supply chain is set. We’ve done our best to build out an accurate ship date for these books. There are a few things outside of our control that can delay delivery of books including: production, shipping, and customs. If there are any delays, backers will be notified as soon as possible.
After the Kickstarter closes, we will provide refunds for individual pledges minus Kickstarter processing fees. (We don’t have that money anymore, so we can’t give it back to you.) This will be around 90% of what you originally pledged. We can give 90% refund pledges up until the survey closes. After the survey closes, we will not be able to offer you a refund as we will have locked in everyone’s pledges for manufacturing. We will provide ample warning to backers when the survey is about to close.
Refunds are reversed via Stripe to your credit/debit card.
This is a USD Kickstarter and refunds will be processed in USD for the amount received, excluding any applicable fees dependent on the day at which the refund is processed as detailed above.
Terms and Conditions:
If you do not confirm your shipping and pledge details within 10 weeks on Backerkit after our notification via email has been released, your pledge will be treated as abandoned. We will however continue to make contact with you and look at each case sympathetically and try our best to satisfy every customer.
By pledging on this Kickstarter you agree that our responsibility to you is for shipping your order as entered into the pledge management system. You are responsible for import or other duties that may be payable to relevant tax authorities. You also accept that you are fully liable for incorrect shipping details and will risk your pledge undeliverable or lost in transit.
We are unable to ship to PO Boxes.
If you do not accept the proposed terms please do not pledge on this Kickstarter project and wait for the wider retail release.
