A Letter from Ted

Dear, Backers -

It’s with enormous gratitude and not a little sadness that I write my final message for this campaign. Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing proposition, and unfortunately, HEROINES didn’t reach its goal. Not this time, anyway.

HEROINES is a very special book to me, and I will find a way to make it happen. But if Kickstarter is good for anything, it’s good for testing the waters. Right now, there just aren’t enough fans waiting for this book. I’m hoping to change that in the coming months. To that end, I’d like to ask you all to navigate to my page and sign up for my mailing list. I’ll be sending out short monthly bulletins about HEROINES as well as my other upcoming projects. And if you sign up, you’ll be the first to know when I launch a new campaign.

I want to thank Shon Bury, Jacob Bascle, Amelia Thompson, JD Boucher, Taylor Smith, and everyone else at Space Goat publishing for putting together this campaign. I also want to thank The incredibly talented Wilson Large for knocking out a splendid campaign video. And my indefatigable friend Paget, whom you have to thank for those messages in your twitter mailbox.

Most especially, I want to thank you all for pledging. You can’t know how much it has meant to me to hear from you all. That alone was worth the heartache of seeing a beloved project fall through. Marketing has always seemed the most daunting part of creative work, but seeing your growing support for this project, hearing from and chatting with you all, made it a delight. I look forward to more of that.

I found this campaign late and almost by accident and am very sorry it didn't make it's goal. There are so many great things to recommend this campaign and it's certainly timely considering all the news about discrimination against women. I certainly hope you will reconsider your goal and (perhaps) the rewards. For example, a way to pledge for more than one book - but not 5! - so we can get a book for someone we know and keep a copy for ourselves. I'm sure it would have been possible to order another copy through BackerKit, but having it as a reward would increase the up front money. Please start a new campaign in 2018 - I would hate to miss out on this book!

All the greats failed at least once, so hang in there and we'll be there next time!

I'm probably going to regret not thinking this comment through first...

I am so sad for the creator and the project.

There is some piece missing here because he has soooo many fans that they should be coming out of the wood work to support Heroines. I don't know if they aren't hearing about the kickstarter or if it's because it's the holidays. This has to be something technical like that, because T. Naifeh's work is appreciated by so many.

Just sad to hear that a bad ass feminist project isn't being supported. Nobody is doing what he's doing.

I'll sign up for the mailing list and if you ever do a kickstarter again, or a patreon, let me know
