It’s an addictive and fast paced action adventure game. Easy to learn and challenging to master, ORBITOR comes from our need to create super fun games that inspire.
The core gameplay is simple-
- pilot your ORBITOR probe through a strange nebula.
- orbit and disrupt the strange objects you find there.
- extract the energy source they contain.
- use it to power your journey.
But there is much more to ORBITOR than that.
We've developed a very unique game with some great features and worked hard to make sure that ORBITOR stands out.
The ORBITOR prototype we developed almost 2 years ago was an exercise in simplified game design philosophy. Take a grand and epic space exploration game idea dreamed up by our crazy lead designer, boil it down to fundamentals and make a fun game that focussed on core gameplay. We developed unique mechanics for propelling the game’s hero around, chucked him in a nebula environment, added mesmerising orbital systems for him to navigate, then cranked up the speed and ORBITOR was born.
2 years later it has highly polished gameplay, sweet visuals, cool sound design and seamless level transitions. It has elements of exploration, puzzle solving and resource collection all supported by an uplifting soundtrack.
It’s simple. We want people to play and enjoy our game. If they turn to the person next to them, smile and say “that’s awesome”, even better. If they contact us directly and tell us we made an awesome game it will make our year. If they ignore their chores, partners and personal hygiene to sit and play it for hours on end, while we can’t condone such behaviour, we’ll secretly have a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
Of course, we have to release it first. To release it we need “stuff”. Legal expenses, software licenses, computer hardware and advertising are all costly. Our goal of $60,000 only covers the minimum requirements to release our game.
Ok. You know the drill. You pledge some money and we give you cool stuff in return. We have the usual suspects - a copy of our game, soundtrack, digital art book and developer journal and so on. However, there are several we feel are stand outs.
Get involved in development ( Reward #3 ) - We'll give you an early copy of the game and access to The LAB, a section of our website where you can access our development forum and insider dev blogs. You'll have direct contact with us and the ability to give us feedback on the game, share your ideas and let us know which features you'd like developed further as we roll out updates and free add-ons.
Become part of the ORBITOR universe and story ( Reward #6 ) - The collectible pioneer pods scattered and hidden throughout the game slowly reveal ORBITOR's story. You have the chance to imprint details of your choice onto a pod and become a collectible item. Players will be able to learn about the awesome pioneers that funded ORBITOR through Kickstarter as they find and collect the pods. You can choose to tell your story, just say a little about yourself or be deftly woven into the game's story.
A personalized "one of a kind" collector's edition ( Reward #7 )- Receive your own unique copy of ORBITOR that includes custom made content that can be based on personal information, interests and images/media etc. Whatever you feel comfortable providing us. We'll do our best to tailor make content such as ORBITOR skins and models, personal greetings/comments from the NAV computer, secrets and easter eggs. All of these will be specific to your copy of the game. The only copy of that version in the world. Cool huh? You betcha!
Personalized and custom content may include
- ORBITOR skin and design
- Custom menus, user interface and on screen display
- Alternate in game fx
- Unique music track written for you
- Your Pioneer pod used as a pivotal point of the story
- Personal Nav computer
- A secret level/game area named after you that appears in all copies of ORBITOR
- Secrets and easter eggs based on content you provide
We'll even take a request or two as long as they're reasonable.
If you have any questions about our Kickstarter campaign or the ORBITOR project head on over to www.evilaliens.co or send us a personal message through Kickstarter. We'd love to hear from you :)
We salute you and thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is obtaining licensed development software and hardware. We need to supply each of the four Evil Aliens with a legitimate business computer with all the required software. The money required will be very difficult to raise without funding.
There are many ways to get funding but we feel Kickstarter is the best solution to this problem. It allows us to keep control of our project and make the game we want to make while involving others in it’s development.
We’re not famous. We don’t have hundred’s of AAA titles to our name. We are the little guy. The underdog. Getting backing was always going to be a challenge.
But we think the product speaks for itself. ORBITOR is an award winning game that people have played and enjoyed. It has been publicly demo’ed, tested and refined for nearly 2 years.
We've also set a very reasonable delivery time of June next year. We don't think we'll need that long but we're giving ourselves time to build the best game we can.
We’ve come this far without Kickstarter. Imagine what we can do with a successful campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
