Finally, a web series dedicated to one of the media's most underrepresented demographics - our interstellar shape-shifting reptilian overlords! Channel 2020 will take you to the not-too-distant future and show you the real faces of the reptiles who are responsible for nearly every aspect of our daily lives. It's almost embarrassing, when you think about it - they gave us life, they control our economy and our minds...and yet, we so rarely take the time to get to know them. Brought to you by veteran internet video pirates, Yonder Vittles and Defenestrator III of Everything is Terrible!, and writer / puppeteer, Davey K, of IFC Food Party, Channel 2020 gives you real stories of the reptilian agenda, shown through the lens of the future-lizards' own most-important art: TV!
Using a consciousness-raising blend of experimental video, animation and puppetry, the creators of Channel 2020 will show you the world of a near-future reptilian-run cable TV network, as seen through the creepy unblinking eyes of the reptiles themselves. The series will bring answers to all of you most pressing questions about the reptilian agenda, such as: How much fluoride in my breakfast cereal is too much? Why can't I stop buying expensive bottled water that is biochemically identical to the stuff that comes out of my sink? Why do the reptiles insist on hoarding gold, when gold-plated is just as shiny and much less expensive?
Your contribution will help make the Channel 2020 pilot and series a reality - and more importantly, take your current idea of "reality" and shatter it into a million scaly pieces. With your truth-seeking energy and generous donation, we will be able to:
- Pay all contributing artists and crew members. A project of this caliber demands nothing less than the most brilliant and prophetic team of video artists, animators, puppeteers, costumers, choreographers, dancers, actors, graphic artists, musicians, producers, and crew members. We are committed to paying them for their hard work, because we want to live in a world where all human/non-reptilian labor is compensated fairly, and one of the first steps to making that happen is tearing down the artificial divide between important creative work and work that pays.
- Cover the cost of materials for puppets, props, and costumes. There is no such thing as a "pared down" visualization of the reptilian master race. In order to bring the physical world of the reptiles to life onscreen, we need to recreate their faces, their bodies, their wardrobes, their furniture, and their mind-control tools as accurately as possible. We believe that this can only be done with the finest recycled materials that 2012 has to offer, plus some borrowed techniques from the near-future.
- Feed and transport our cast and crew. Lizards may only have to eat every two to three days, and future-lizards may be able to travel by hologram, but today's humans have to eat constantly in order to stay alive and go from place to place in machines that run on expensive petrochemicals.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges that face us are many because of the ambitious nature and scope of our project. We are designing and crafting over twelve original puppets, dozens of original set pieces and costumes, writing original music, choreographing dance routines and building digital backdrops from scratch. The workload will be daunting, and challenges will present themselves at every turn. We successfully planned, orchestrated, and carried out projects of this scale in the past on even more meager budgets, and we are excited and prepared to do it again. We are quite fortunate to have a vast and loyal fan base who have supported our work throughout the years, and we are counting on the continued support of our amazing fans to see Channel 2020 through to a successful finish!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
