Figure collecting has been and is an interesting part of my life. Pokemon and Digimon were the two shows that planted this interest as a kid; as time passed I became more familiar with the large variety of genres anime and manga had to offer as well as the hobbies that came with it. That's what eventually piked my interest in figure collecting and its community. This hobby showed me so much, new manga and anime, introduced me to garage kits, and the large figure collecting world and what it encompasses.
One of the projects I encountered, that vastly helped out the figure collecting community, was FigInStock. It was a passion project that grew much bigger than originally intended and helped me and thousands of collectors find collectibles that would not have been acquired due to cost or availability. I loved it for what it became and used it until the day it closed its door giving a friendly goodbye to the community it had helped out for 7 years.
I want to give the community the same help FigInStock provided with this project, create a site than can offer restocks on new and used figures based on keywords you wish to search for on Amiami and Mandarake.
I started on this project sometime this year and have been talking with programmers and web developers. A prototype and concept has been developed that works as intended, that project needs to be expanded to support multiple users instead of one. To help it start moving towards a completed state is where the MyFigureStock Kickstarter comes into play.
What will MyFigureStock offer?
MyFigureStock, or MFS will offer notifications on restocks from two sites, Amiami and Mandarake based on the keywords you wish to receive notifications on. These notices will be sent through email once the stock status of an item changes.
How will you help?
The funds contributed to this Kickstarter by you will:
1) Fund the needed programming to move it from working concept to a tool that can handle the traffic of a multiple users that will do the needed web searching on two sites, Amiami and Mandarake.
2) Finish creating the site and its required features to allow it to run properly.
3) Fulfill physical rewards as needed.
How Kickstarter funds will be split.
The current project, once working as needed, will open it doors to it's backers to help beta test the site and notification system. Once that Beta stage is complete, the site will be opened to the public. During the Beta Period, users will be given 10 slots to test out. Once the Beta is concluded, your chosen reward to back this Kickstarter will be put into effect.
Screen printed shirts are currently planned, as this type of print generally lasts longer than other options. Two designs, based on the site’s mascot, are being offered, each with a different theme in mind, one being much rougher and the other, softer.
This is the current idea for the soft design choice, from concept to near complete artwork.
And this is the idea for the rougher design choice.
Both images portray a side of her world, one being her when searching the web and how she sees it and the other being her physical state when she is connected to the web.
The layout for both shirts will follow the same format.
Meet Shiori, the sites mascot. Designing her has been one my most interesting projects. It started with a few ideas(pardon the horrible sketches) as seen below.
After several adjustments this is currently her version I feel content with.
Plans for MFS and keeping its doors open
Keeping MFS’ doors open for a long, just like anything, will require time and resources. To ensure these resources are always available, two users will be kept in mind for this site's usage, free and premium. Free users will have the option of 5 search slots available, and premium will have 10.
The only planned premium support prices as of now are:
$2 for 1 month of premium
$10 for 6 months of premium
$20 for a Year of premium
These premium support options will help keep the doors of this project open by funding maintenance, servers, and other related costs that may arise. Other plans to help keep this project alive is implementing site ads that are relevant to figure collecting and an online shop that will sell items such as shirts and caps to help with supporting this site.
As the project becomes thoroughly tested within the first few months, if working as planned, the amount of possible search slots will be increased.
Additionally, supported sites will expand with time based on the community’s feedback.
This is a project I'm very excited for, as it will fill a void that hasn't been there for a full year. If you decide to back this project, I greatly appreciate it. If you decide to not help out financially, you can always help out by letting people know about this Kickstarter Project, anything helps!
Risks and challenges
The goal is to have this site up and running in April, if not before, and have it placed into your hands to give it's test run for a short period. This project is designed with room for adjustment and error, no project is perfect and if anything were to occur that could affect this project on the programming end or any other aspect, some room to move around is a very useful tool to keep on hand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
