Welcome to our Kickstarter for The Last West: Volume 2!
We're back! But this time, we have one half of a graphic novel -- 5 of the 10 planned issues that complete The Last West -- under our belts!
If you're new to The Last West, here's a very brief summary:
Evan Young and Lou Iovino (that's us!), guys who write stories and love comic books, want to finish the comic they started right here on Kickstarter. It's called The Last West and it's about what should have happened in 1945, but didn't.
On July 16th, 1945, the first test of the atomic bomb should have set in motion the end of World War II. It should have ushered in a new age of global technological advancement. And, it should have presented us with one of the greatest moral dilemmas in human history.
But in The Last West, the bomb fails. And a far greater catastrophe occurs. All scientific and technological progress ceases. Artistic, cultural, and social advancements disappear. World War II continues, unending.
For sixty years everything slowly crumbles and fades, until an astounding discovery is made. The missing element on July 16th was a man... A man named Stephen West.
And he may be the key to reigniting the world.
We like to think it's what would happen if you put Chinatown and Lost together and made the result into an intriguing, stylish, thematic alternate-history comic book.
But it's not done yet! And we need your support to finish it!
This Kickstarter campaign will help us get the financial support we need to wrap up the remainder of the series. Your generous support will go to the art team for their roughs, pencils, inks, colors, and letters.
Like our first Kickstarter, we've once again included rewards that let you join in the fun of our project. The rewards are described on the right and below, so find one you like and please consider lending us your support. You can contribute $10 for an exclusive print copy of the first issue (which may sound high, but builds in the cost for shipping -- which is expensive!!), or $25 for the Volume 2 trade paperback, or $350 for an original art board, or... really, it's whatever you choose!
And if you want to combine any rewards -- say, you want the Volume 2 trade paperback and the first two issues of the series -- then just drop us a line, and we'll figure it out! We'll mix and match with you.
We've also got a few stretch goals we're hoping to hit, fun extra swag just for our supporters - have a look below!
And for more details about the art team, the rewards, and a sneak peek at the opening of the story from Volume 1, read on.
Thank you again for your support!

When it comes to comic books, artistic and stylistic continuity are extremely important. Nothing will throw you out of a good comic book like an abrupt change in the art team from one issue to the next, right?
We're extremely proud to say that the entire art team on The Last West has stayed intact throughout the series, and will continue to stay intact until the very end. Here they are:
Novo Malgapo, artist. Has penciled Grimm's Fairy Tales, Wonderland, and Charmed.
Liezl Buenaventura, colorer. Has worked with various publishers and independents, including Zenescope Entertainment, Arcana Studios, and Ronin Studios.
Kel Nutall, letterer. Kel has lettered for HarperCollins, Big Dog Ink, Devil's Due, and many in between. He's also written the original graphic novels Nothingface and Island Tales.
Kody Chamberlain, cover artist. Kody's extensive credits include work for Marvel Comics, DC/Wildstorm, HarperCollins, Image Comics, IDW Publishing, 12 Gauge Comics, BOOM! Studios, and Digital Webbing Press.
Risks and challenges
We hope to make this our second completed Kickstarter campaign. As supporters of our first campaign can attest, we fulfilled all rewards as promised for The Last West: Volume 1. The issues appeared in all of their inboxes as pdfs, their mailboxes as print issues and trade paperbacks -- all as promised. Sure, there were some bumps and bruises; a couple of packages got returned and had to be re-sent, we botched a couple of rewards and needed to make some corrections, a few rewards were delivered about a week overdue.
But all in all, we delivered every single reward. Not all Kickstarter projects can make that claim.
For further proof that we can and will deliver on this Kickstarter, visit your local comic shop. As of June 25th, they may very well have a copy of The Last West: Volume 1 sitting on their shelves. There should be no better proof that Volume 2 is destined for the same.
So, that said... the necessary caveats:
Things happen. People get sick, people get married and have kids, life events force issues that draw our attentions and efforts elsewhere. Rest assured that every one of us is fully committed to this project, and it's only the most dramatic unforeseen acts of nature that will get in our way.
Comics take work, and one of the risks of creating comics with a team of specialists is that delays at any one step in the process have a knock-on affect downstream. A delay in roughs will push back the pencils, which pushes back the inks, then the colors, and so on. Delays happen throughout the world of comics, and we will do everything we can to try to avoid them. Part of our publishing schedule for Volume 2 is geared to help us avoid this at all costs.
There are many things that could happen that would be out of our control, but we will do our absolute best to manage. We're professionals and this is our passion.
Bottom line? We know how to make and deliver comics.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
