Good idea Mischa. There's a new video on the way shortly with the levels fixed.

About

FlickFleet is the sixth game Jack has published, but our first Kickstarter. It's a 2-player space combat dexterity game where you control a fleet of acrylic space ships, flicking them into firing position and then flicking dice at your opponent's ships to damage them. We need your help to make FlickFleet a reality - read on to find out more about the project. The fate of the fleet is in your hands, literally.

Victory lies at your fingertips!

The contents of the box
The contents of the box

The box contains:

  • 11 capital ships
  • 11 3-part fighter/bomber wings
  • 11 capital ship dashboards
  • 56 wooden discs
  • 49 wooden cubes
  • A D10 and a D6
  • A rulebook including a few sample scenarios

The ships are constructed from 5mm (1/5inch) thick acrylic and are easy to flick around the tabletop. Weapons are represented by dice which are “launched” from on top of the acrylic ships.

The space neoprene mat shown in the videos and photos is not included (it would drive up the price and shipping too high), however, if you really want one, you can get them from a number of suppliers, ours was an Ultimate Guard one from here.

For 10,000 years the Imperium of Earth has ruled the stars with an iron fist but now The Uprising have thrown off their totalitarian yoke and are gathering a following and a fleet. An Imperium battle fleet is dispatched from Earth to end them…

In an effort to keep the costs down and make this game affordable, we've set ourselves a low target that enables us to buy a laser cutter and the raw materials for a small run. As with Border Reivers, the 1st edition of It's Alive! and Zombology, we'll be hand-crafting the games to an extremely high standard and doing the laser-cutting ourselves to keep the costs down. However, as the number of backers rises this becomes unsustainable, so if we reach the Destroyer stretch goal we'll be getting the boxes, wooden bits and dashboards mass produced so you'll get faster delivery! If we reach the Carrier stretch goal, the laser cut acrylic ships get replaced with injection moulded ones - still from the same material.

You are an admiral of a small fleet of space ships. Each round you will activate all your ships in turn, performing two different actions with each of them. Flick your ship into the optimum firing position and then flick dice at your opponent's ships to damage them. Or perhaps you've taken a beating and need to recharge your shields or repair some damage? Will you launch a wing of fighters for cover and additional firepower or a wing of bombers to target an enemy capital ship for a destructive bombing run?

Flick dice to damage opposing ships

When firing, you flick a die from the top of your ship at an opponent's ship, if it hits (one of yours or theirs!), the die result shows which bit of the target is damaged.

There are five different types of ships in FlickFleet: fighter wings, bomber wings, destroyers, carriers and dreadnoughts. Fighter and bomber wings can only move and fire (lasers and nukes respectively). And become less effective as they take damage.

Larger ships have additional actions available to them: launching fighters, launching bombers, recharging the shields and repairing damaged locations. Their ship dashboards show the current status of each ship, whether the shields are still up, if a location has been damaged and is temporarily unusable or even if the hull structure has taken a beating.

FlickFleet features two modes of play – scenarios and free play. The game includes a number of ready to go scenarios that tell players which ships to use, any special rules and the victory conditions for both factions. (More scenarios will become available on the Eurydice Games website).

Alternatively, players can choose to build their own fleets using a points-based system for a fair fight.

You get to comment and ask questions on the project, but nothing concrete in return - just our thanks!

Collaborator [Print & Play]

You get the print and play files for the ship dashboards and the rulebook, plus the laser cutting files for the ships. You'll need access to a laser cutter and to source your own wooden discs and cubes plus laser cutting material (we use 5mm thick cast acrylic, in red for The Uprising and grey for the Imperium of Earth).

Fighter Pilot [Standard Edition]

The standard edition will feature laser-cut (but not etched) ships (unless we reach the Carrier stretch goal when they'll be injection moulded) and a hand-crafted box and ship dashboards (to Jack's usual high standard) unless we reach the Destroyer stretch goal when they will be professionally manufactured. The standard edition copies will start shipping after the deluxe copies, but could take several months to laser-cut, hence the longer shipping time. The vast majority should be delivered well ahead of this deadline, especially if we hit the Destroyer stretch goal.

Bomber Pilot [Standard Edition + Zombology]

A copy of the standard edition as described above, plus a hand-crafted, signed and numbered copy of Zombology our 3-8 player semi-cooperative card drafting game about 'scientists' trying to cure the zombie plague using alternative medicine such as homeopathy and healing crystals.

Uprising Hero [Deluxe Edition]

The deluxe edition will feature laser-cut and -etched ships with detailing and their names etched on top. It will also feature a second set of dice and will be signed, numbered and feature a hand-crafted box and ship dashboards (to Jack's usual high standard) regardless of whether or not we reach the Destroyer stretch goal. The deluxe edition copies will also be made and shipped before any other copies, hence the earlier delivery date.

Commodore [2 copies of the Standard Edition]

Two copies of the standard edition as described in Fighter Pilot above. With savings on shipping.

Shipping will depend on whether we're hand-crafting or mass producing. Either way the prices will be the same as we're going to subsidise it.

Hand-crafted copies (including the deluxe edition, regardless of whether we reach the Destroyer stretch goal or not) will be shipped by Royal Mail, so they won't be customs friendly I'm afraid.

If we reach the Carrier stretch goal, then we'll completely switch over to mass production and use a fulfilment company so we should be able to do customs friendly shipping to the US, Canada and Australia/NZ.

Shipping prices will be as follows:

Fighter Wing pledge (1 copy of FlickFleet) and Uprising Hero (1 deluxe copy of FlickFleet):

Bomber Wing pledge (1 copy of FlickFleet and 1 copy of Zombology):

Commodore pledge (2 copies of FlickFleet):

Jack and Paul of Eurydice Games
Jack and Paul of Eurydice Games

Eurydice Games Ltd. is Jackson Pope and Paul Willcox - the designers of FlickFleet.

Jack has designed four board games and published six through his first company (Reiver Games) and now Eurydice Games. He has experience of both hand-crafting high-quality games and getting games professionally manufactured:

Border Reivers (2006) - 100 hand-crafted copies

It's Alive! 1st edition (2007) - 300 hand-crafted copies

It's Alive! 2nd edition (2008) - 3,000 professionally manufactured copies

Carpe Astra (2008) - 2,000 professionally manufactured copies

Sumeria (2009) - 3,000 professionally manufactured copies.

Zombology (2015) -230 hand-crafted copies

Paul was one of the first blind testers of Border Reivers (Jack's first game) and a key playtester and confidante throughout Jack's Reiver Games days. Paul's driven the development of FlickFleet from the initial idea through several key changes and was very happy and excited to join Eurydice Games when Jack pitched the idea to him.

We can't make FlickFleet without your help. If you've chosen to back the project - thank you! We really appreciate your support. Whether or not you'd like a copy of FlickFleet, please help us spread the word - a personal message to a friend who you think would enjoy this really fun game could be the difference between funding and not.

Risks and challenges

While this is our first Kickstarter, we've done this before. Jack has hand-crafted over 600 games and has had 8,000 games professionally manufactured, most with the supplier we're going to use if we reach the Destroyer stretch goal. In an effort to keep things simple and minimise risk, we're keeping the Kickstarter intentionally simple, no add-ons and minimal stretch goals, with the ones we've gone for all related to upgraded components that everyone will benefit from.

The biggest risk is around the laser-cutting. It takes time, and we're doing it ourselves to keep costs down. We've deliberately set the delivery date quite far away in an effort to ensure that we can get all the laser-cutting done in time (with some buffer built in) so that everyone will get their rewards before the shipping date - we hope that we can deliver everyone's rewards well ahead of that. If we're struggling, we've lined up a couple of companies that can do some of the laser cutting for us, still allowing us to hit our deadlines.
