Hello everyone and welcome to our project! Now that you are here, the big question...
Photo of the actual prototype
Ether Wars is a sci-fi and fantasy board game that dives into an epic conflict between races in a vast universe, with dynamic strategies and abstract gaming that mixes cards, probability (dice… pretty customized dice), and resource management.
Change tactics on a moments notice in order to acquire the precious resources of Etheria. Be prepared… outwit your friends in crucial decisions and become the most powerful species in the universe!

We strived to create a DIFFERENT game experience. We took elements of RTS and MOBA videogames (which we also love) and combined them with board game mechanics that we've always enjoyed to create the game we really want to play.
The result is a new kind of strategy game; where you have to create your own path to victory, reading your enemy’s intentions, managing your luck, and keeping in mind the advantages and characteristics of your species.
The dice-token system we implemented opens the doors to vast amount of strategy and tactical deployment, as well as a significant amount of calculation of probabilities in the decision making process.
On top of that, the mechanics of the cards will give the players the possibility of surprising their adversaries and creating strategies that affect all the elements in the game, including chance.
Each player will represent one of the four species participating in the tournament, each with their own abilities and characteristics (Take a look at their back stories on our site!). Lead your troops (yeah! your own funky little minions!) guided by your powerful Hero and take difficult strategic decisions.

The game structure is in "days", which are rounds of play. Each of these days has a logical sequence of seven stages. Once you have gone through a couple of these days you'll know how to play and see that Ether Wars is easy to learn yet deep in possibilities!
The game is designed to fit with both languages on it, reducing as much as possible the inconveniences and allowing players to learn some of the other language and play with even more players :)
Some of our best reviews come from unexpected places. Here some funny but real opinions that helped us along the way;
If you want to know more in depth how Ether Wars is played take a look at our beta rules;
Regarding to the DEVELOPERS TRICKS chats, we will make an schedule when the campaign end with all those of you who want to meet us so you can fit a nice time for the meeting and we can afford them. There is not a particular time for this, If you want to have the meeting once you have the game we will schedule it for then, If you want it before there will be also the possibility
Let’s go social! The social cards added this way are designed to create interaction between players. They are not fundamental to the game but you can add them to your plays generating more diplomacy, commerce, or even democratic decisions. That’s up to you! If we reach this goals we will add more!
1. Ether Wars is not one more game to make a KS and get some profits. It’s a dream, and an effort to create something different for the board game community. We are not a big Editorial, but we are giving our best to this project.
2. We want to translate the intensity and excitement of RTS and MOBA videogames to the board and provide a fresh experience via this new set of game mechanics. You will find a complex conflict in a fantasy world. Species with his own background story and different motivations to get the power, a resource economy to manage, and real time strategy.
3. Ether Wars dives you in a continuum of critical decisions. Every action is crucial, and you can’t go back. Improvisation is a must to survive, but always thinking in the future.
4. There is no friendship that last forever. You are always exposed, but alliances will be crucial at certain times. Sometimes even words are not necessary, your movements will speak for you.
5. We have no miniatures. That’s not a caprice, all the game elements are made to work well together to reduce useless time, creating a high rate of interaction between players, and allowing them to affect even their luck.
6. Besides the apparent complexity of the game, we have work hard to keep the mechanics elegant. Once you learn the process it will be very easy to know how it works, but it takes a long time to be a master. And when one master meets others, a new game starts!
7. The high amount of factors involved in the game make each play unique, and players always make the biggest difference.
8. Even if you are not attracted by the scifantasy image of the game you can find the gameplay really interesting. Chess or Poker are games that have a lot of things in common with Ether Wars.
9. Ether Wars is a finished and polished game, but it’s not descartable future expansions made side by side with the players, always trying to preserve and improve the actual game.
Thank you so much for helping us on this adventure!
Ether DEV is an independent indie game studio, founded by Javier Alaiz Dominguez and Álvaro Arteaga Garcia. We are two young guys from a little city in the North of Spain, León. Friends since childhood, both decided to make our own road studying different degrees, but without losing our common passion for games. After some years, and living again in the same city whit an enormous unemployment rate in Spain, we started to spend more time with that dream… develop a board game, a game that satisfies our feelings. After more than a year of development, we're pleased to bring that game to reality and make it the base for Ether DEV… we present you Ether Wars.
When you back this project you are not only buying a game. You are giving us the opportunity to build our studio and improve from here. This is our first project and we have almost made everything you see with our hands and a really poor budget while learning a lot and sharing our thoughts with really experienced people in the worlds of boardgames and crowdfunding, to ensure the quality and accomplish of the project. But this is a beginning...
We have a business plan contemplating the growth of our studio offering a new way of understanding games and doing it hand on hand with our supporters. It’s a hard trip ahead of us, but it would be only possible with your help. Thanks a lot for your time and for all your support!
We have been at multiple events and important conventions, shops, play bars, and friend’s houses to show up Ether Wars, test the experiences, improve the game and have fun!
We are happy that more than 400 people played Ether Wars, and enjoyed the experience of fighting in Etheria. Will you be the next?
Here you have some photos of the long way to here :)
This budget is an informing estimation. Some costs are fixed and aren’t going to increase, others can change according to the SG and number of games, but you can have a better image of what we need the money for.
15% KS Payments and Fees: Our cost of making the campaign at this platform.
15% ART & DESIGN & PROMOTION: Cost of the illustration and design of the game. Including all the way from first prototypes to the preprinting final jobs. Travels and other actions involved on the campaign and pre campaign. Web and campaign designs.
20% LOGISTICS: Customs, and commodity’s management. Some taxes associated to export import on the country’s, and a variable margin to face incidentals.
50% MANUFACTURE: Cost of making the game. 51 six customized sides dice are something complex and expensive to manufacture, sometimes even more than miniatures. We worked hard to find the best solution but still the biggest part of the budget.
This is an estimated timeline. The lighter areas involve possible delays. We contemplate the worst but if all works perfect we can reduce at least 4 months to the finish line. On the updates all our backers will be informed of all the advance and possible delays that could occur.
Kickstarter / Campaign: June is our funding month, and in July we will make your pledge management.
Finishing Designs: Prepare all final designs for printing. Professional redaction of the rules (by native proffesional), both in English and Spanish, and all related to the final version of the game.
Pre-production / Quality Check: Checking quality of materials and printing. When we see that all works well for the final game we will be ready!
Production: Mass production, this depends on the final quantity, the factory and other factors. The 3 months estimated are the worst scenario that a factory gave us. Besides the normal time increments, because of quantity, we hope that finally this time would be less.
Shipping: One month or two are for the big travels by boat. Once the games are at the warehouses, we hope everyone gets the game in one month.
We ensure our delivery with a wide range of methods form distribution partners to Amazon logistics, so we can ensure the game arrives well to your home. The cost of shipping our games depends on a lot of factors, from the result of the campaign, final destinations, time of the year, quantity of games in an order, etc. Also KS takes some fees on the shipping cost added during the pledge, making it even more expensive.
That’s why we charge our shipment fees after the campaign in the pledge manager, trying to take into account as many factors as possible of the campaign and offering you the best solution.
Here you have an estimation of how much it will be depending on your location. Remember that this estimation can vary and could be even less, but we will make sure that it never goes more expensive. If finally it's more expensive we will tell you and, if your are not agree with the final cost we will pay back your pledge.
FOR RETAILERS: Bulk orders to the same location could reduce the shipping amount depending on the quantity.
Risks and challenges
First of all we want to say that despite being our first project we know all the complexities that a project like this could have. We have been studying the process for a year, talked with at least 6 producers about game budgets, planned around 4 different options for delivery and studied other projects, some similar and some quite different
We are not afraid of not being able to deliver. A risk that we fear is being late, which seems to be a sin shared by many Kickstarter creators. We have done our best to calculate the dates appropriately, but there are many factors outside our direct control, like manufacturing and shipping delays. We have done our best to ensure a minimal risk and we will continue to do so until this project is finished and ETHER WARS is delivered to your doorstep.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
