About

Kickstarter will Go Live on June 28th at 6pm PST 

Camp Kiwanis, Mt Hood, OR

Camp Kiwanis is a beautiful retreat located about 15 minutes from Government Camp. For over 84 years they have worked with the US Forest Service to empower disabled children and adults. When not offering these camps they allow folks like us to rent a piece of their 22 acre site.

We will be staying at the rustic Laurel Lodge with plenty of space for games including a Foosball and Pool Table. And if you want a quick break there is wonderful hiking right out the door, including a waterfall within a half mile of the lodge.

To get to Camp Kiwanis take Road 39/Kiwanis Camp Rd off of US 26. The exact address is: 39 Rd, Rhododendron, OR 97049


What is Included?

With the $150 backing level you will receive:

  • Lodging on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
  • All meals from Dinner on Friday thru Breakfast on Monday.
  • Access to a library of 120+ games and growing.
  • Access to beautiful hiking.
  • Almost 72 hours of potential gaming (depending on how much you sleep).

What About Food?

We will be cooking food in a small kitchen attached to the lodge. We will do our best to provide variety. Additionally, we will have gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, and nut free options (for those who are very sensitive, please realize it will be cooked in the same kitchen). 

Breakfasts will be at 8:30am. Lunches will be at 12:30pm. Dinner will be at 6:00pm. Snacks will be put out at 8:30pm. Below is our menu plan (this is subject to change):

  • 6:00pm Friday Dinner: Potato Bar with Chili & Salad
  • 8:30am Saturday Breakfast: Pancakes and Eggs
  • 12:30pm Saturday Lunch: Spaghetti with Bread & Veggies
  • 6:00pm Saturday Dinner: Hamburgers with Chips & Salad
  • 8:30am Sunday Breakfast: Oatmeal and Muffins
  • 12:30pm Sunday Lunch: Sandwich Bar with Chips & Veggies
  • 6:00pm Sunday Dinner: Taco Salad Bar
  • 8:30am Monday Breakfast: Cereal

For each of these meals we will have dairy free, gluten free, vegetarian, and nut free options upon request. In the survey after the Kickstarter we will need to know what your allergies are.


What About Lodging

The main lodge were we will be playing games is a large open 2 story room. Just a few steps away are the main sleeping quarters, which are arranged into dormitory style rooms with 4 to 8 people a room, sleeping in bunk beds. These rooms will be arranged into male and female quarters with bathrooms for each.


What Should I Bring

Each person should bring:

  • Pillows and Blankets, or sleeping bags (the beds don't have any).
  • Toiletries (Soap, toothbrushes, washcloths, towels, etc). There are showers, but they don't have soap or towels.
  • Games (bring several of your favorite games).
  • Warm clothes (the camp people assure me that the roads will be clear, but there will like be at least some snow).
  • You may want a few snacks, we are only providing food at the set times (Breakfast at 8:30am, Lunch at 12:30pm, Dinner at 6:00pm, and Snacks at 8:00pm).

There are a few things that you cannot bring (these are per camp policy):

  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Alcohol or drugs.
  • Guns or firearms of any kind.

Events

Depending on turn out and interest we may run a few optional events. This may include a small tournament, a large group game of Wits & Wagers, and/or a small role-playing campaign. Details will follow. If you have any ideas please feel free to message me.


Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Old to I Have to be to Attend? You must be at least 13 to attend without a parent or legal guardian. If you are under 18 you will need to have your parent or legal guardian sign  a consent form.
  • Can I Bring My Pet? No. The facility that we are renting does not allow this (except for animals providing ADA accommodations for a person with disabilities).
  • Is There Accommodations for Couples? Couples are welcome, but there are no shared beds and rooms will be split into men and women.
  • Can My Group Have a Whole Room to Themselves? Probably, it depends on the size of your group and how many people attend the event. If you have a group of exactly 4, 6, or 8 then the chances are much higher. But if you need this please reach out to me personally (Ethan at DawnGuardGames.com).
  • Can I Bring Alcohol? No. Alcohol is not permitted, nor are drugs, or weed, etc.
  • Can I Bring my Young Child/Infant? This is not recommended. If you would like to come, but would have to bring along your young child/infant please contact me and we will see what we can do.
  • How Close are the Bathrooms? Whether you are playing games or sleeping there is always a bathroom within a few steps. 
  • What Games will be there? I own about 140 Games and that number is growing. There is a fair bit of variety in my collection. Additionally, I encourage all attendees to bring their own games. So whatever you like there is sure to be a game for you.
  • What if I don't Know How to Play Many Games? The board game community is a wonderfully open community and I have found that they are more than happy to teach people how to play games. I will also be available. Don't let that stop you from coming.
  • Can I Cancel After the Kickstarter Ends? No. Your pledge is non-refundable, but it is transferable.

Risks and challenges

In full disclosure this is our first multi-day event. Though we have hosted several single day events and have experience feeding people and hosting board game events. We have also attended many events very similar to this one. We do not see that this will be an issue, but their are always little bumps and hiccups that come with first times of anything.
