At the End of 2014, we introduced the Esington Glass to the world on Kickstarter. With incredible support from the community, the project raised $196,560 with 2272 backers!
After years of testing and feedback from the community, we're back to solve the biggest problem in timeboxing today: interruptions.
When you get interrupted mid-sprint, you can now stop time.
"Got my Esington today and I am ecstatic! I can't believe how great you handled everything. I am really impressed and grateful for putting this great idea out to the public... I just can't wait to change my life and discipline myself a step at a time to accomplish what I've always wanted to do." - Vanessa C, backer of the original Esington glass.
Did you know the average worker gets interrupted after only 11 minutes of work? The crazy thing is it takes 25 minutes to get re-focused on the job.
With Esington 2.0, the magnetic time-stopper will keep your place in the sprint and act like a bookmark for your brain, waiting to be unleashed to restart your work.
We invented a new way to control the time on your glass. Simply place the magnetic stopper over the neck of the glass and the timer stops!
The magnetic stopper interrupts the flow of the solid iron nanospheres and keeps your place during your timeboxing sprint.
About the Glass
For Esington 2.0, we are using borosilicate glass (like pyrex). Borosilicate glass is a type of glass that contains boron trioxide which allows for a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. This means it will not crack under extreme temperature changes like regular glass. It's a standard 25 minute timer designed for the Esington timeboxing method (similar to the pomodoro method with a few cue differences).
For the timing medium, we are using solid Iron nanospheres. These work perfectly with the magnetic stopper since they are highly attracted to the embedded magnet.
The solid Iron nanospheres flow freely, even after thousands of magnetic stops.
Millions of solid iron nanospheres produce a soothing white noise for the first 20 seconds to act as a cue to start your work habit (more on this below). Here's what it sounds like on different surfaces:
If we reach $100,000, we will also be including a ring that enhances the white noise effect:
Magnetic Silicone Stopper
The silicone stopper is designed to have a unique feeling and a satisfying soft "click" into place to stop the timer. This will make it easy to engrain the "bookmark for your brain", and bring you back exactly to where you left off your work when you're ready to resume.
While the stopper is in place, your brain senses incompletion and will subtly pull you back to your work. You will get a satisfying reward when you pull out the stopper and unlock the timer.
We tested the prototypes thousands of stops and they work perfectly every time.
The Esington Method
The Esington Method is a timeboxing technique that is similar to the popular pomodoro method, but with a few important cue differences.
- Turn off all distractions
- Turn over the glass to activate the 3 cues
- Work on a single task until your time runs out
The Esington timer has a “soft stop”. There are no annoying bells or beeps to signal the end of your cycle.
Sometimes, your focus can take you well beyond 25 minutes, and that’s ok (especially if working on lower-energy tasks like answering emails). You don’t want to lose a valuable train of thought. Just be sure to rest proportionally to the energy spent working.
Why You Need the Esington Glass
- If you’re not using a timeboxing system, this is the perfect way to start. The Esington Glass is simple, beautiful and is built to last.
- If you’re currently using a timeboxing system, you need to upgrade your timer. Esington is beautiful, elegant and unique. What does your current timer say about you?
- Esington 2.0 is the perfect gift for someone you care about.
The Design Process
We made a 3d mockup of the magnetic stopper and then hand-cut a sample out of silicone.
After a few iterations, it worked perfectly with the iron nanospheres!
We used solid iron nanospheres to work better with the magnetic stopper. We also found the the solid iron nanospheres worked much better at flowing smoothly because of the smoothness and uniformity of the nanospheres.
To show off your glass in an elegant way, we are including a free cork base with each glass.
Timeline and Expectations
July: Early bird orders ship
August: Regular bird orders ship
We have the prototypes ready and have lined up a primary and secondary manufacturer. We have 4 years of experience making these glasses so we are confident we can deliver on time.
The solid iron nanospheres have been tested thousands of times and we're also confident we can secure high quality material. We also have 4 years experience quality testing these glasses, so we're confident in getting you a great product in a timely fashion.
Feedback from our first campaign
"I'm going to add to the growing list of glowing reviews. You not only delivered early but also the packaging was outstanding protection. The glasses themselves are even more impressive than I imagined from the photos and I am more than happy with them. You have also been great with your updates and keeping your backers informed. This is how a Kickstarter should be run and I look forward to any future projects from you. Thank you.” - A. Woodham III
“Just opened mine- I was out of town when it arrived. It's beautiful and beyond expectations! Bravo Rudy- like so many others have said, this was an all-time great KS. Can't wait to back your next venture!!“ - Sherri
Mine showed up, Berkeley, CA -- looks amazing, congrats Rudy on running the best run campaign I have seen yet. - M. Manfrin
Why Help Us?
At Esington, we believe that within each of us lies the untapped potential of a great person. A person worthy of leaving a long-lasting legacy. Our goal is to give you the tools you need to untap that potential.
We have the prototypes you see here. They have been working flawlessly for months. We are asking for your help to get us to the minimum order quantity from the manufacturer. In exchange for your pledge, we’re offering the first run at a discount.

Risks and challenges
We learned a lot from our first campaign over 4 years ago. In that campaign, the first manufacturing run was quick and efficient and provided a wonderful experience to about 1/3 of our backers. Unfortunately, we had delays for the 2nd and 3rd manufacturing runs which caused delays of up to several months for some unlucky backers. Since then, our manufacturing runs have become much larger and more efficient. Our QA process is refined and our logistics network has been built out in the last 4 years. We have employees overseeing every step of the process, rather than just Rudy handling everything :)
The iron nanospheres have been tested thousands of times and we're also confident we can secure high quality material. We also have 4 years experience quality testing these glasses, so we're confident in getting you a great product in a timely fashion.
The biggest risk is in an unexpectedly large and successful campaign, which could cause some delays if the manufacturing requirement is more than 20,000 glasses. It will take longer to manufacture and QA this large of a manufacturing run. We are confident we can deliver, but a very large order could cause delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
