Did you miss the campaign? That's ok, you can still check out Les Miserables: Eve of Rebellion and pre-order at the Escape Velocity Games website.
THANK YOU for your support!
Paris, June 1832. The eve of rebellion.
Share in the struggles and triumphs of characters from the time-honored novel as they battle toward their destinies.
Will you help Jean Valjean elude the pursuit of the relentless Inspector Javert? Will you guide Marius to stand with his friends on the barricades of a hopeless battle… or away from the bloodshed and into the arms of his heart’s desire, Cosette? Or perhaps you’ll side with the more avaricious endeavors of the dastardly Thénardiers?
Les Misérables: Eve of Rebellion is a small card game with a big story to tell. Each turn, players will choose a character to act with, manipulating cards in their hand, on the table, or in another player’s hand. Each character features a unique goal tied to their motivations and can be scored when certain conditions are met. Or, perhaps they will be sacrificed to satisfy the goals of another…
Plan your actions well, and use the talents of the novel’s heroes and villains to help guide your favored characters to their fates!
Fans of the novel or musical will find a lot to enjoy in Les Misérables: Eve of Rebellion. The game features 20 named character cards (all of your favorites) from the classic novel by Victor Hugo, each with unique art, abilities, and goals. Of course, there are also a few unnamed citizens (aristocrats, soldiers, peasants, and students) to fill in the cast.
Setting up the game is quick and easy. Just shuffle the deck of cards and deal two to each player (supports 2-4 players). They will pick one to keep as a starting card and one to either save or kill. Then, draw three from the deck to form the tableau (available cards) and start the game. The kill pile and the save pile will develop as the game progresses.
On Your Turn
On your turn, you will select ONE action. You will either take a card, use a card ability, or score a card. This starts out easy enough, but it gets more complicated as the game progresses. When the draw deck runs out (typically about 30 minutes), the game is over!

Additional Sample Cards
"The art and design work on this game is fantastic... the gameplay is great... if you want a small game with great depth and a very unique theme, this is definitely one of them!" - Benjamin David, Board Game Vault
"It's a game I enjoy... the artwork is really cool, I dig it a lot... this one is a real blast. I hope you enjoy this game. I hope you check it out. I think it's a total getter!" - Glenn Flaherty, Boardgames & Bourbon, Sweet Spot segment on Dice Tower Podcast
"The game is good! Les Miserables has some really cool things going for it. The fun part of the game is trying to set up the best score you can get and effectively using the character's abilities." - Ferdinand Capitulo, The Cardboard Stacker
"This is definitely a game to pick up if you enjoy Les Misérables, great art, and/or great card games. It's an elegant, quick game you can play anytime, and pairs well with a red wine and a few rounds of Guillotine." - Mark Meredith, DiceMonkey
"... has depth and replayability for years... The synergy between the cards is great. I haven’t read the book, but based upon this game I may want to. I can get a glimpse of how the characters hate one person but really love or admire another. If you need a quick filler game, this will fill that slot nicely. It only takes about 15-30 minutes on average, but has some serious depth." - John Baker, Into the Cardboard
Premium PnP - $6
The Premium Print and Play (PnP) option is great for backers with a nice printer and plenty of ink! The print and play version will have the full color, final production art. This is also a great option for international backers who are concerned about shipping fees or where delivery may be difficult. The files will be provided via a download link in a future Kickstarter message or update.
Basic - $9
The Basic edition is for gamers on the go. This version will be printed from a US based manufacture and will include only the cards (32 character cards, 4 player aids). This is essentially a travel edition and is perfect for gamers that want the full Les Misérables: Eve of Rebellion experience, but none of the fluff. This pledge level also includes the PnP version detailed above.
Deluxe - $14
The Deluxe edition is the definitive version of Les Misérables: Eve of Rebellion. The game will come with:
- 20 character cards, each with unique art
- 12 citizen cards, 4 different art types
- 4 player aids
- 1 and 5 point tokens for keeping score
This version will be produced by Whatz Games, a proven game manufacture. Whatz Games was chosen specifically because they have experience with magnetic lids (see stretch goals below). The box will be the same size and shape as a typical paperback novel.
Les Misérables: Eve of Rebellion & Iliad: Heroes of Troy - $28
Deluxe versions of both games! Learn more about Iliad: Heroes of Troy here.
Deluxe 2/4-Packs - $28/$50
Save a little on the game and shipping by getting two or four at a time. This is a great option for international backers or those just looking to save on shipping. If you are interested in more than four copies, please contact Escape Velocity Games directly.
Shipping & Customs
International shipping is available, but backers are expected to pay any applicable taxes/duties/customs/fees. Actual cost of production will be marked on the box (less than $8 US) for calculation purposes and it will be labeled as merchandise, not a gift. Hopefully that will help avoid customs fees for most backers. Deluxe copy fulfillment will be directly from China.
$6,000 - Funded!
Ok, not really a stretch goal, but it really is a major milestone! More details on the stretch goals will be posted as the campaign progresses, but here are a few things we have in mind!
$6,250 - Card Upgrade (Basic Version)
Basic edition gets a card upgrade to include linen texture and UV coating. This makes the cards a little nicer to hold and will protect them for longer.
$6,500 - Box Upgrade (Deluxe Version)
The Deluxe box gets an awesome upgrade to the fancy box with magnetic lid! This is the same box that Iliad: Heroes of Troy will use and they will make a nice matching set.
$7,000 - Token Upgrade (Deluxe Version)
This is a Token upgrade that is not a token upgrade... (sorry, bad joke). The Tokens will now be thicker!

Risks and challenges
Every project comes with its own risks and challenges, and this one will be no different. The final touches on the graphic design could be delayed, the production could be slower than expected, or errors could be found in pre-production proofs, delaying final production.
On a positive note, the game design is complete, all of the illustrations and graphic designs are complete, we're partnering with a proven manufacture, and this is not Escape Velocity Games' first game project. Conquest of Orion and Aerial Assault were both successful Kickstarter projects with successful deliveries. Our latest project, Iliad: Heroes of Troy, is on schedule and we're looking forward to delivering it to hundreds of eager backers soon.
