Did you miss the campaign? That's ok, you can still check out Iliad: Heroes of Troy at the Escape Velocity Games website.
THANK YOU for your support!
Iliad: Heroes of Troy is a simple, yet surprisingly deep, card game. Each card represents a major character in the epic poem by Homer. Engage in battle, prove your piety, smite your foes, and guide the Heroes of Troy!
Play as the Greeks, Trojans, or Gods. Each turn, you will select a card to play and then activate one of nine different abilities. Manipulate cards, earn victory points, or steal them from an opponent. Clever management of your hand and careful timing will make all the difference. Will you be stuck with the Trojan Horse or earn the Favor of the Gods?
In 2014, Escape Velocity Games held a contest to challenge designers to create small games based on classic works of literature. 32 entries were made and tested. After months of reading rules and playtesting games, Iliad was chosen as the winner.
Iliad: Heroes of Troy will be the first in a new series of games by Escape Velocity Games featuring classic novels and works of literature. After a year of development and testing, we're excited to show off Iliad. With your help, we look forward to producing the whole series!
1. Play a card and score points:
In Iliad, the faction that controls the card gets the points, not the active player. This means that you have to be very careful to play high scoring cards when you will receive points, but low scoring cards when your opponent will. But then again, maybe playing a particular card gives another player a point, but it allows you to use a trait you need? Choose wisely.
2. Choose one of the traits to activate:
The round ends when one player has no cards left. The player with the most points wins the round and the first player to win two rounds wins the game. Sometimes it's best to get rid of cards, but other times you want to collect cards. Each trait must be used wisely to gain victory.
Rules of Play
Iliad: Heroes of Troy has been tested and proven. If you'd like to check out the rules for yourself, please do!

"This game is a delicate balance of knowing when to play your cards, so that you score the maximum number of points, and your opponent scores the minimum. Add to that, the special traits on the cards, and each turn becomes an excruciating decision... if you are like me, and have a love for board games and the Classics, you'll want to back The Iliad on Kickstarter." - Stuart Dunn, Boardgame reviewer, Catholic Mom
"Packs a little more punch than most microgames... the theme and the artwork are very well done... very simple to learn and very simple to teach!" - Forrest Bower, Bower's Game Corner
"The art is great... I love that it's short... it's a very accessible game, a lot of the people I play it with want to play it again... I played it with a lot of non-gamers and they enjoyed it... a lot of fun... overall, I think it's a good game!" - Benjamin David, The Board Game Vault

Premium PnP - $7
The Premium Print and Play (PnP) option is great for backers with a nice printer and plenty of ink! The print and play version will have the full color, final production art. This is also a great option for international backers who are concerned about shipping fees or where delivery may be difficult. The files will be provided via a download link in a future Kickstarter message or update.
Basic - $9
The Basic edition is for gamers on the go. This version will be printed from a US based manufacture and will include only the cards (30 character cards, 2 special cards, 4 player aids). This is essentially a travel edition and is perfect for gamers that want the full Iliad experience, but none of the fluff. This pledge level also includes the PnP version detailed above.
Deluxe - $14
The Deluxe edition is the definitive version of Iliad: Heroes of Troy. The game will come with:
- 30 character cards, each with unique art
- 2 special cards, each with unique art
- 4 player aids
- 1 and 5 point tokens for keeping score
- Fancy Box with magnetic lid
This version will be produced by Whatz Games, a proven game manufacture. Whatz Games was chosen specifically because they have experience with magnetic lids. The box will be the same size and shape as a typical paperback novel.
It will open like a book and feature art on the inside and outside of the box. The pictures below are from samples sent by the manufacture:
Shipping & Customs
International shipping is available, but backers are expected to pay any applicable taxes/duties/customs/fees. Actual cost of production will be marked on the box (less than $8 US) for calculation purposes and it will be labeled as merchandise, not a gift. Hopefully that will help avoid customs fees for most backers. Deluxe copy fulfillment will be directly from China.
Escape Velocity Games is an independent game publisher based in Baltimore, MD run by Steven Cole. Steven is the primary developer on this project and is most likely the one you will hear from if you send any questions or comments, which are quite welcome!
Iliad: Heroes of Troy was designed by Angelo Nikolaou. Illustrations were done by Sandro Rybak and graphic design is being completed by David Prieto Gómez.
Risks and challenges
Every project comes with its own risks and challenges, and this one will be no different. The final touches on the graphic design could be delayed, the production could be slower than expected, or errors could be found in pre-production proofs, delaying final production.
On a positive note, the game design is complete, all of the illustrations are complete, the graphic design is 90% done, we're partnering with a proven manufacture, and this is not Escape Velocity Games' first game project. Conquest of Orion and Aerial Assault were both successful Kickstarter projects with successful deliveries.
