You & I, with 28 pages of story, bravely navigates the complex and baffling social constructs that regularly smack us in the face: loneliness, disconnectedness, overwhelm, culture clash, and even boredom. These seven full-color vignettes, some set in real life, others in fantasy, explore trust, empathy, openness, resilience, and more. You might find yourself in one of these sketches – or maybe in all of them!
While intended for general audiences, You & I was created specifically with LGBTQ representation in mind. Representation is incredibly important, especially for young people. In many spaces, both online and off, LGBTQ content is marked as "adult" regardless of the age appropriateness of the subject matter. This makes it difficult for young LGBTQ people to see themselves in their media, and further stigmatizes them among the broader community. You & I presents LGBTQ characters in stories that don't center on their orientation, but focuses on them as human beings living out their regular (and sometimes not-so-regular) lives.

Who is E. Ross Ura?
Hello again Kickstarter, and thanks for your support! I’ve been writing and drawing since I was very young, searching for the perfect medium for my work. In 2014 I started my first web comic, 5 x 3. Originally drawn on the back of note cards on the same size, 5 x 3 allowed me to explore issues both realistically personal and fantastically absurd. Two years later I brought that first offering to Kickstarter and was thrilled to raise 162% of my goal. Now I’m back with You & I, my most ambitious comic project yet, hoping to raise $1000 for a small print run. In the meantime, to keep body and soul together (i.e. pay the bills), I work in marketing and communications for a Detroit-area compensation consulting firm that specializes in helping nonprofits and small employers achieve their goals and keep their employees happy. But my passion is still writing and drawing, so you will see me again and again, long after this campaign is done. I aim above all else to create the comics I see missing from the world. I want to tell the kind of stories my friends and I made up about ourselves in our wildest moments of imagination - on the playground, at the D&D table, through video games, and in plans for our very real futures (whether or not those plans panned out!).
FundingYou & I is fully drawn and close to print-ready. I wanted to be sure I could deliver on your rewards as quickly as possible after you commit. Nearly half of the $1000 will go directly to the cost of moving this comic from my computer to your hands. The other half will be split between me and Kickstarter. As for my share of the proceeds, I will invest those funds in developing new art and stories to share with you, my supporters, and the rest of the world. So stay tuned – I’m just getting started!
Risks and challenges
As my first Kickstarter campaign last year went smoothly and all rewards were delivered within two months of the campaign’s end, I am confident I can deliver in January 2018 as promised. I do need to finish up some color and lettering, but I’ve given myself a comfortable cushion in case of delays. I work with extremely diligent and professional editors, and their timeline could possibly impact mine. And of course printing and shipping all take time. I intend to print with RA Comics Direct, who promise a very quick turnaround, and I ship through the USPS. For my first campaign, the US Post Office came through with flying colors; I anticipate no less this time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
