THE PROJECT
"My Best Day" is a feature length comedy. We aim to shoot in the Hudson Valley Area this summer, July 2010. The schedule is 3 5-day weeks.

BRIEF LOG LINE OF "MY BEST DAY"
Karen's life as a small town receptionist is turned upside down when the father she never knew calls for a refrigerator repair.

Karen sets out to investigate, dragging along her friend Meagan posing as a mechanic.

By the end of the day, Karen will also encounter her father's closet lover, a compulsive sister addicted to off track betting, a brother struggling with grade school heart ache and bullies, a broken refrigerator and a load of fireworks.

THE LAST TWO FEATURES I DIRECTED
My last two features, "21" and "Mom" (later titled "Big Dreams in Little Hope") were both shot on shoe string budgets with talented cast and crews, pushing the boundaries of what you "need" to make a good movie.

"21", (not to be confused with the high stakes caper about a collage math whiz turned casino card counter) was a labor of love. We all worked for free and most of the budget covered SAG experimental contracts, food and travel. "21" was received by over 30 festivals and was nominated for a "Best First Feature Award" by Frameline. It was made with a budget of 3K. Yes, 3K. We shot mini DV, worked on weekends, and I edited it on Final Cut Pro.

"MOM/BIG DREAMS IN LITTLE HOPE" was another labor of love. Nearly all of the budget went to employing principle cast and crew. We toured the festival circuit again, we were featured at Outfest and NewFest and were proud recipients of the Power Up Filmmakers Grant and Panasonic's Filmmakers Grant. The entire budget was 45K. I didn't pay myself, Panasonic granted us a fancier camera for the duration of the shoot (AJ-SDX900), and I again edited on Final Cut Pro. We sold the movie to Wolfe Video and you can watch it on Netflix.

Imagine what we could do with 100K! But we need YOU to help kickstart the preproduction budget!

WHERE THE MONEY WILL GO?
So here we are with "My Best Day" with a shoot budget of 100K. The goal is to have most of the shoot budget go toward employing cast and crew.

WHY 100K?
1) Working with limited resources is extremely time consuming and turns most indie directors into unit production managers. It turns cast and crew members into moonlighters. It is harder to improve your craft when you work within the same same budgetary fish tank.

This budget would comfortably pay cast and crew so we can focus all of our energy on the creative side of things.

2) We want to shoot on the Red Camera and could get a sweet deal without sacrificing funds toward labor.

WILL A KICKSTARTER DONATION REALLY HELP?
YES! The 15K raised through Kickstarter will help attract angel investors.

15K will allow me to hire a location scout, casting agent, and line producer to get this ball rolling during preproduction.

Seed money from a community of friends, family, and indie supporters sends a message that the arts are a valid asset to contribute to. I know it feels funny because the arts are considered indulgent in this country but they are an arm of being political, making a living, expressing our pain and joys, archiving our stories, setting history, and presenting perspective.
