It's been an honor to be on this journey as part of Lawn Chair Kings. When the band was formed in Durango in 2000, we wondered how the fusion of punk, country, and indie rock would be received. Looking back, we’re astonished at all of the community support we've received as the "western garage" sound has been honed over the years.
As much as we enjoy live performances, we’ve never felt that we were able to keep up with our original music in a recorded fashion. To date, our albums have been recorded in basements with home equipment. While these basement recordings have had the advantage of being relatively inexpensive, they've had the disadvantages of being time intensive and making do with purchased/borrowed equipment in tight, dark spaces.
We’re excited to have Scott "Scooter" Smith in our SW Colorado region. He has a great ear for creating recordings that are well-balanced, natural, and warm. He's one of the nicest guys that you will ever meet, and he's got a kick-ass studio in the heart of Durango. Lawn Chair Kings are fortunate to have this opportunity to "get out of the basement" and record at Scooter's Place.
We love the current lineup of Lawn Chair Kings, with Patrick Dressen on drums and Hap Purcell on banjo and guitar. Erik Nordstrom and Dan Leek, founding members of the band, are like a fine whiskey; their harmonies have only become sweeter with age. We truly feel that Lawn Chair Kings are at a magical moment in time, and we’re excited to capture our current sound. We plan to record 14 songs in February, and we anticipate that the album will be released as early as this summer. The band chose a great selection of tunes, ranging from new material to relatively old songs that have never been recorded. This could be our best album yet!
Thank you for your support of local music and the ongoing journey of Lawn Chair Kings!
Risks and challenges
This Kickstarter campaign will help with following costs related to the album: studio time, mixing, mastering, artwork, duplication, and promotion. We also hope to use these funds to purchase more merchandise such as trucker hats, T-shirts, and pins. Lastly, we are in need of new main speakers if the budget allows this to happen. We are truly appreciative for any support that you are able to provide.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
