About

When you think of the classic film "Cooley High" one is reminded of teenage angst, the hopes and dreams of a youth generation and all of its possibilities, echoed by a cold reality that killed Cochise, one the films lead characters portrayed by actor Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, and propelled Preach, memorably played by Glen Turman,  onto a future that almost echoes the real life of the films creator, playwright Eric Monte.

You may recognize the name Eric Monte especially if you've shared "Good Times" with the Evans family from Chicago's Cabrini Green projects in the 70's, or perhaps you discovered "What's Happening" with Rog, Dwayne, and Rerun from the TV adaptation of Eric's classic "Cooley High".

With the formation of his very first independent production company,      Eric Monte Publishing, he is focused on returning to his rightful place amongst the creative greats.

Eric Monte Publishing presents his incredible screenplay " If They Come  Back", a story following the lives of two brothers during  the Civil Rights Movement. "If They Come Back" launched the career of Eric Monte. After attending Eric's play "If They Come Back",  Mike Evans approached Eric Monte about writing a television show based on his character on "All In The Family". Eric Monte and Mike Evans then created the characters George and Louise Jefferson.

Eric Monte needs your help in raising funds for his play. His goal is to produce his play in his hometown of Chicago. Every penny that is raised will go to the production of the play "If They Come Back". It will be used for theater rental, props, advertising, actors, stage manager, house manager, set and lighting design, transportation, costume design and everything else that makes a show.

It is important to make this show happen and share with as many people as possible. He believes he can save lives if young people saw the struggles their parents and grandparents had to go through.  With your help and that same relentless drive that landed him in Hollywood nearly 50 years ago Eric Monte can continue to hold up the vow he made as a child, to make black heroes and characters that black people could be proud of. Please donate, every little bit helps.

Risks and challenges

I wouldn't allow a tumultuous slide from Hollywood grace, let alone poverty, stop me. I also wouldn't let the challenge of learning to speak again stop me. Believe me when I say, " I can do this".

Have a Happy,
Eric Monte :-)
