Back from the Dead - Not a Joke

Greetings All,

On April 23rd I had a brain hemorrhage and I'm not even a boxer, meth addict, or football player. I have made a nearly 100% recovery, with just a little numbness in my right pinky and ring fingers (probably from sleeping in a hospital bed for 19 days, not from the "event"). My odds of surviving were 50/50 so I am really fortunate.

I am also happy to provide an update on the board game version of Gettysburg: The Tide Turns. Surprise! There are four games in development now, with Pea Ridge to be included with Gettysburg in a two-game package by Compass Games. Both will appear as computer games too, of course. I have attached a screen shot of the computer version of Pea Ridge, the board game is identical except it has a visible hex grid and some tracks and tables along the edge.

More good news - games three and four are far into development and the game art is nearly complete. I will show those in a future post. Again, assuming Gettysburg is a success they will appear as both board games and computer games. (Oh, and I'm beginning research for games five through eight, more on those later too.)

I appreciate your patience, it is really hard for me personally to no longer be 100% responsible for Shenandoah Games and the Kickstarter. That said, you have my word that you will not be disappointed in the final outcome of the Kickstarter Campaign, even if the timing is slower that any of us would like.

Here's the map, I hope you like it.

I have playtesting slots open, if you want to test some of the games. All we need is play balance testing. I will make a more detailed announcement about that soon.

Eric - the map looks gorgeous, but more importantly you are safe and sound! Please continue to do so :)

Here's another site that has some updates.
Update 3: Looks like Apple will work with developers to remove the flag.
Like Eric said Shenandoah Studio games feel more like a historical simulation than a wargame.

      Hi Bruce,
That's the first I've heard of this. I suppose we will deal with the matter over time much as all publishers do with the issue of the word Nazi and the swastika for their WW2 games. I am all in favor of removing the CSA battle flag from government grounds, but historical simulation games deserve to have the historical symbols, seems to me.

Thanks also for the kind regards,

      Hi Eric,

Glad you are doing better. What will be the impact on the project given that Apple is pulling all Civil War themed games from the App Store?

Wow, talk about scary! Very pleased to hear you made a 99.9% full recovery and my best wishes for your continued health.

Like everyone else here, I'm very glad you're doing better. Please take all the time in the world to recover! We're not going anywhere.

      Hello Eric,

my best wishes for your recovery. Take your time and make health priority 1.

      Yours, Martin

Take your time and recover. Your health comes before the game and I can wait.

Very glad to hear you're doing well; you're situation had somehow not registered on me, although I wondered about the Shenandoah change of direction.

I'd be happy do playtest something. I'd prefer a solo-able computer version, and having just completed The Last Invasion, am hungering for a Gettysburg game - I've just set-up El Carto's Badges of Courage elaboration. I'm flexible.

Thanks for the update. Take care of yourself, and best of luck with the games.

I'm glad to hear you're healthy that is obviously far more important than a game. I'm still concerned that Slitherine has not commented here or in their own forums since March on the iPad version. Here is hoping your update spurs them into posting one of their own.

Health and family trumps everything else. Glad to hear of your on-going successful recovery.

As another has said...the game will be ready when it's ready.

Eric, sorry to hear about your medical scare, but overjoyed to hear that you're recovering. No more banging your head against the wall when game development is slower than expected. Take care, and all the best.

What terrible news, but in such a good update. Good to hear you are a long way down the road to recovering. I am looking forward to playing Gettysburg when it is finalized and ready for release.

Just glad to see you are back on the road to recovery. Obviously, the upcoming game projects are exciting to read about, but don't tax yourself. Your health is more important.

Holy cow, that's awful to hear, glad you're on the road to recovery!

    22. Harry Bosch on June 23, 2015
