All or nothing. This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Mon, July 23 2018 2:00 AM UTC +00:00.
SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City is an RPG heavily influenced by the 90s cartoons Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men, Spider-man and TMNT!
Use this space to cheer the creator along, and talk to your fellow backers.
Have a question?
Also, for classes: the Puppeteer - a pet class limited in personal power, but able to create, enthrall or control a group of followers. Could be anything from robotic armies of psychotic toys to animated broomsticks or a swarm of penguins; at low levels these are very minor, but as they improve they can spend their control to gather more puppets, enhance them, or begin to sense through them.
Awesome. Been teaching my 10yo daughter pathfinder, and she's been wanting to do superheroes, so this looks perfect :)
@eBadger: oh yea, they should be able to pick it up in like 5 mins and be good to go.
Ah, so a 'based on' rather than a 'compatible with'? But if I throw this into a 3.5/Pathfinder group, they won't be too confused?
@eBadger: It a D20 derivative thats a mixture of OD&D meets 5e. :)
So the campaign is surprisingly vague. What system, exactly, is this based on?
Last night Eric joined me in the show to chat about Survive This! Vigilante City. If anyone would like to check our session out here is the link - https://youtu.be/CgAx189fDzQ I’m looking forward to have Eric on the show again soon.
@Stacie Winters: unfortunately the point of sale system I use does not have the capability to give you credit for the $17 that you paid for the PDF.
You would be able to order the physical print books through my webstore at www.bloatgames.com but it will charge you full print price.
If you plan to back at the physical level later, I recommend canceling your pledge and then backing through my website later so you don't get charged The twice for the PDF.
I was wondering something... if we back at just the pdf level will we be able to upgrade to the physical books later on?
@EricBloat Thanks! Louisville, huh? Seems like KY has become a Mecca of Indie RPGs! I’ve seen so many games come out of Kentucky and have some creative friends (and gamers, writers, filmmakers) living there as well
@Joe McGee: glad you stumbled across this too! And thank you for your support!!
What the what!? Glad I just stumbled across this...Alan AND Runehammer? Supers? Put me down for the Red Box!
I’m picking up some Champions & Heroes Unlimited influences as well, maybe? At least with the mechanics for types of heroes/villains?
@NecroNuke9: We will definitely be adding more MegaHumans in the near future. Those are pretty cool ideas.
There have been several suggestions for Humans. I want to throw out some ideas for Megahumans.
- Alien Hybrid
- Possessed (Hero obtain powers from being possessed by Spirit, Angel, or Demon)
- Avatar (A reincarnation of a Mythic Hero or God. Ex. Heracles, Anansi, Beowulf, etc.)
- Homunculus (Enhanced Human Clone)
@Stacie Winters: Heroes Unlimited was definitely a big influence! Also, Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition and the old TSR Marvel Super Heroes too.
Not familiar with Deeds Not Words. I'll have to look that one up. 🤓
Just wondering but what have been your inspirations for how you've approached the writing and design of this book? In the preview I saw a lot of Heroes Unlimited and Deeds Not Words in its look. Am I way off base?
+1 Reformed Villain here too.
I came up with an idea, and am trying devise a Vigilante Hack funnel adventure, a la DCC, but with newly costumed vigilantes. The same 3 to 5 characters per player, all starting as True Vigilantes, but if they survive get to pick from the other vigilante character classes. I think (or hope) this could work, having a team tempered in fire of a crisis only a group working together can get through. So here is my question: will there be conversion rules for Vigilante Hack into Vigilante City? I want to use it as a sort of graduation for the surviving vigilantes from the funnel.
+1 Reformed Villain. Suicide Squad comes to mind.
@Jason Mabry: I like that!
New Class: Reformed Villain?
Lets get this to 5500 :) we can do it
@Max Traver: Awesome Max! Thank you so much for the support!!
Backed! Core Rules and Villain's Guide PDFs!
@dustintaub: haha! His art is amazing. Thanks for your support!
You had me at Runehammer's art!
If you are taking votes on the additional classes you have listed in the last update, I'll throw my votes to the following:
Eric, for the limited set box, personally I wouldn't want to commitment to it until I know the set price for it. That would be why I did not say anything yet.
I'm sure that international supporters may think they would not be able to get the limited set as well, hence the low interested respond to the limited set?
@JamesMmmm There is a called shot mechanic in the game, so that type of character is doable. Plus, there are stun type weapons.
I had an idea for a cowboy themed vigilante where he doesn't kill, he just shoots dudes in the hand. Like a Called Shot feat. Any chance there would be a rules mechanic like that in the game?
@Brutorz Bill: wait for tomorrow's update. And even then, I'll be taking suggestions before picking the 3 that are included. We have several already in the works but I really like to get my backers in on the creation of the game as much as possible so we'll see everyone comes up with and take it from there. :)
@Reapercake: The Vigilante Hack and its supplements all use The Black Hack as there rules set and are designed to be very rules minimal.
SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City uses White Box/OD&D meets 5E as a rules set and is very much rules light-medium.
You'll see some similarities between The Vigilante Hack and Vigilante City as the Hack was originally built using material that was intended for the first iteration of Vigilante City but they're very much separate games.
@Eric Bloat: Also interested in the license and publishing guidelines!
@JamesMmmm: I don't believe in dumb questions. :)
Yes this will be compatible with Dark Places & Demogorgons and also SURVIVE THIS!! Zombies! 2nd Edition, too.
Dumb question: will this be compatible with Dark Places?
I hope you consider eliminating the watermarks on your books from DTRPG. I backed Dark Places & Demogorgons, and was quite sad to see that I can't print a copy for my public game group (I don't like having personal information on things I show to my playgroup).
Is this all new rules etc or is it building on Vigilante Hack, sanctuary asylum, a city full of sinners?
@Anthony Hunter: Beware: The Traffic Cone! Lol
@Anthony Hunter: sure I'll get that info over just as soon as I have it together. It's pretty open.
@Brutorz Bill: We have several in mind but I will be taking recommendations with tomorrow's update to see if we missed any that are must have classes.
If you have some in mind, be on the lookout for tomorrow's update. 🤓
Any hints as to what the 3 additional human classes will be, now that they have been unlocked?
Also, Eric, I would be interested in seeing the licensing information when you get it hammered out please
And now, I will have to create an NPC known as "The Traffic Cone" when I get the game :D
@Joshua Kubli: I think we can make that happen. 🤓
Any chance for a shirt option that isn't orange? Because orange is hideous? And because I can't skulk in the shadows seeking crime to defeat if I'm the color of a traffic cone? Any chance for black with white lettering?
@JamesMmmm: awesome! Thank you so much. Flash type villains are a okay. Really the only that'd keep a npc from being accepted is if yo were like, "I got this great idea for vigilante. He's this rich kid named Bruce Wayne and after seeing his parents killed grows up to be a dark hero name Batman". Or "I have great i idea for a villain, his name is the Raper. He's a serial rapist that preys on children...". Those would be hard no's. Everything else should be fine.
I bought the Vigilante Hack and the other two books in the series (its on its way in the mail!!) and don't really care if its the exact same game or not. This looks awesome! With the add on of powered characters (among all that great art and rules for fleshing out the world, etc.), I can run a game a la the Silver Age Flash and Ditko Spider-man. I pledged for the NPC Runehammer option. I mean, how could I not? Hopefully my submission will be accepted... its going to be a Flash's Rogue gallery type goofy villain. Fingers crossed.
Anyways, I wish you guys much success for this. Very excited to see this funded! Cheers!
