About this project
Very much like The Hunger Games, Equitism the film offers the chance for our younger generation of main characters to change the state of the game forever!
Equitism is equal opportunities and respect for all!
Play this incredible piece entitled "Maestum Stratum", by composer Steve Jones, from the Equitism Original Soundtrack:
Try to imagine yourself at the Royal Chess Game. You are inside the great arena and men and women cheer from either side all around you for their respective gender.
This chess game is played with human chess pieces and it has been played by the King of the Consulate of Men against the Queen of the Consulate of Women for centuries in order to determine who holds the greatest power in the governing force, known as the Polis. The men, lead by King Rutherford, have always won, until last year when a Queen, Morgana, finally came along who was better than all the rest at chess. Now everything's about to change...
Our Progress (Shown in Green):
Help us determine the length of the film. $32,000 is the absolute minimum we need to make the highest quality picture. It is our greatest hope to make this longer by filling the squares with pieces in them as well with a stretch goal of $64,000. After that we take it to the big screen. Here's where the money is going:
The more we put into this production the better it will look. We've already spent over a year preparing for this Kickstarter alone and have been very patient so as not to rush our product. You can expect to see everything here and more come to life over the next month while we learn from you and prepare for shooting, which will most likely take place in July or August 2014.
Locations - We have a very European style setting in mind with cobblestone streets, grand castle Consulates, and epic cathedrals. We plan on shooting all of this in and around LA and we will need funding for permits and reservations.
Costumes & Weapons - We will need your help outfitting our players with armor and weaponry. The swords, sheaths, and shields are all metaphors for our words and actions against one another.
Stunts - We have highly trained stunt men and women who are experts in the ways of the sword. You saw a little taste of what they were capable of in the promo video. Just wait... We promise to upload an entire choreographed fight sequence by the end of our campaign to show you just why these professionals deserve your funding so much.
Camera - We want to shoot this on one of the best cameras on the market, the Alexa. That is cinematographer Niels Lindelien's camera of choice. With your funding he will be able to move smoothly with the actors on Steadicam, glide gracefully across the marble board on dolly, and perform sweeping crane shots that will show the epic scope of this movie.
Post Production - This includes editing on Avid, Foley sound design for the sword fights, and visual effects to make the backgrounds stunning. This will take what we shoot on camera and make you feel it to your core in the theater with 5.1 Surround Sound.
Crew & Support
First and foremost the crew. Phenomenal and hard working, each of them has committed to this project without seeing a penny upfront. They are part of this because they believe in the positive message:
Forward this project to your gender forward friends and you too could could be part of the giant college that will make up the entire screen of credits at the end of our movie ; ) Please like and follow us here:
Remember the story and sword fighting of The Princess Bride, the life size chess game in Harry Potter, and the excitement of The Hunger Games?
Equitism takes place in an alternate universe set in an era comparable to medieval times. In this world, the governing force, known as the Polis, has been split into The Consulate of Men and The Consulate of Women. These Consulates are separated by gender inequality and a lack of communication, causing a divide in the society. At the end of each year, the two Consulates face off in an often gruesome chess game, using real human beings as pieces, in order to determine who will have power in the year to follow.
Our main characters are the newest inductees in the Consulate: Bonaparte of Heart, the hopeless romantic, and Nichole of Soul, the reluctant princess of the female Consulate. We follow them and their friends through their experiences of being new to the Consulate and being new to adulthood. All of these obstacles lead to the Qu'est Ce que C'est (Kiss Kissé), an artistic party thrown by the Consulate every year the night before the climactic Royal Chess game.
Is this the year for our young characters to speak out against injustice? Or will the barbaric war between men and women rage on? The purpose of Equitism is to show relatable characters in a larger-than-life world in order to teach teens the importance of respect and communication, all while telling a heartfelt and entertaining story.
Here's one more ethereal musical piece from the Equitism OST to inspire you entitled "Altophobia":
We will let you help us cast this film! How's that for involvement? We will be on the Chapman University campus and around the Southern California area filming interviews, and after that we'll let you guys vote on who you think is the best for the job. We will have the final say, but we'd love to hear what you think and know the people Y.O.U. wanna see make it happen.
Interviews and Involvement
Equitism is a film that depends on having an open dialogue about gender. This starts with you and your friends! Answer the following questions to join in on the global discussion.
Type your response in the "comments section" at the top of the screen or drop us a YouTube video link if you want to do it in character!
Don't think, have fun, and be respectful:
(Type M or F so we know your gender)
- If you could say one thing to the opposite sex without consequence, what would you say?
- Describe an awkward moment with the opposite sex.
- Describe a moment of connection or understanding with the opposite sex.
- What is a man/woman/human supposed to be?
You can check out previous responses to the questions from around the globe here: http://www.youtube.com/user/equitismthemovie
These questions help us to pave the way for communication in the next generation. Also check out some of our other sites here:
(You can opt out of receiving rewards later if you simply just want to help the cause)
Just another one of our cool rewards, The Equitism Pin will be worn by the Consulate members in our movie. These are the official badges of the genders, but if you look closer you'll also see there's some non-verbal functionality in the way you wear the Equitism Pin that will help you on your way to some very verbal consent.
Colorful Equitism Paintings
So Equitize yourself with one of the exciting rewards listed on the side. Why not grab a chess piece? Or receive a Royal gown & sword, and who knows... Maybe even find yourself smooching with someone special at the Qu'est Ce que C'est...
Thank you for your time and consideration. With your help we can encourage bystander intervention, educate about the importance of verbal consent, and prevent disrespect from happening. We hope you'll pledge! Even just a dollar makes you a backer.

Risks and challenges
This is a large amount to raise as independent filmmakers, but we believe there are not enough positive messages in films today. Help us to spread this message to the next generation of men and women in a fun and exciting way.
A short feature could be just enough to get the message through to this generation of teens, but we know we have the content to make it an hour and a half or more if you'll help us get there.
Remember that if we don’t reach our Kickstarter fundraising goal your entire contribution will be returned to you. Each pledge gets us one step closer to our goal. Every dollar counts!
Legal Safety First:
• For those of you visiting our set, we anticipate shooting in July or August in Los Angeles. However, this has the potential to change. We will keep you updated so you can plan ahead to visit us.
• If you become an extra or receive a cast credit, you must be a US citizen or have a US work visa, and not be a member of SAG/AFTRA.
• Actors and extras must be over 18.
• Some rewards may require additional paperwork. If you are appearing in the film, you will have to sign a release.
• The final cut of the film may have to be further edited in certain cases to adhere to the laws in the country which it is being viewed, or for different types of media.
• All shooting locations are subject to change for a variety of reasons, including the amount of money we are able to raise and the particular locations giving us the right to shoot.
• This fundraising campaign is all subject to applicable Kickstarter rules/regulations, movie guild rules and applicable law. If any of this conflicts, we will work with you in good faith to give you a substitute reward.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
