@bbee- you'll never see your money. I've encouraged others to be patient in the past, because I know how long, e.g., regulatory compliance can take.

But we are so far beyond that that I'm pretty sure we're in scam-land. I keep a list of people who have demonstrated they can't be trusted so that I only get burned once, and Rahul Koduri, Asfand Khan and Rich Boers of Sidney, Australia are now on that list.

Even if they delivered today, there's been a lot of competition in this space and it is far less interesting than it would have been. I gave up and bought another vendor's so I could get some work done.

The best feature of the one I bought off the shelf? It exists.

It would be nice to be proven wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

@Peter W I still have my iPhone 5, but only because i couldn't trade it in. that model had a bad battery issue.

unfortunately due to the matter and form scanner, I've discovered that 3D scanners are not going to be able to do what I want them to do.

@Richard Grenfell - Sorry to say..."welcome to the club". For whatever reason, their "commitment" to communication is the one area I would now call out as a complete failure, if not total lie, and it's taken me a long time to be willing to use that word as it is a pretty harsh accusation. The sheer number of people who've reported no response after reaching out and the lack of complete transparency is amazing, and why (imo) they are just hurting their reputation and likely any positive word of mouth. It feels like the statement you quoted was just a ploy now to get backers rather than a belief they truly carried. Maybe in early May we might get some update, but I'm no longer holding my breath.

@PeterW - Yes I have tried reaching out to them via twitter and email. With Email I have tried their hello@eora address as well as various educated guesses using them names. none of the emails have bounced so I assume they have gotten through.

I too had noticed the difference between their website and the KS page and came to the same conclusions as you.

What disappoints me is the lack of communication given on the campaign page they state
"We are committed to making sure you are well-served as our backers. We want every backer to feel like they're involved in a one-to-one conversation with us. This means responding quickly, personally, and proactively. To ensure this, we have invested in a variety of ways you can connect with us.

We offer 24-hour messaging on our website. We read and reply to every message. Sometimes we may be unable to reply straight-away, in which case we will reply within a few hours. "

I can understand how a project can run late and to be honest, I would have been surprised if they had met their delivery schedule. I'm happy that if they are taking more time to make the product better but it would be nice if the could keep to the standards of communication that they stated in the campaign.

By not doing so, it makes me as backer wonder what is actually happening.

Agreed, if we were in the loop, perhaps some of us would be in the position to help / have the resources to do so.
...Working in the manufacturing industry for example....
We can't help solve problems we are unaware of.

    16. Graeme White am April 18

@Peter W; Totally relate to your comments on why many many kickstater backers participate in supporting innovative projects. We are not customers, I get that; however, we participate in expectation of sharing the journey as part of our reward. Sharing the journey, even to failure, is an outcome and is OK if we are in the loop along the way.
Failure to communicate is a fatal flaw, if not to the creators it is to the Kickstarter model.

@Richard Grenfell. As far as I can tell, Eora has dropped support for the iPhone 5. If you look at Eora's website, on the product page at the bottom they have a graphic for supported devices. The iPhone 5 is not there.

      https://eora3d.com/product.html

Compare this to the graphic on the Kickstarter original campaign page, which does show the iPhone 5. Eora has made no mention of this change in updates. Since their web page probably has the most up to date info on supported hardware that’s probably the most accurate. Of course Eora will have to confirm/address this…when they feel like either responding to your e-mail (if yo sent one) or when they next decide to provide us with status.

I was a bit curious about this as I had to upgrade my iPhone 5 shortly after the campaign, but was holding on to it to use with the scanner. Looks like that won't be happening?

      Hi Guys,

My iPhone 5 is dying and I need to get it fixed or get a new one.

Can you please inform me as one of KS backers will your scanner work on an iPhone 5. The kickstarter campaign I signed up for said it would, yet the iPhone 5 is not listed as compatible on your website.

If it won’t work because you have changed your specs, will it then work on an iPhone 7 or 7s ? - If I have to replace my iPhone 5 I would like to get the most up to date phone to replace it.

So please can you please let me know ASAP

PS - Your lack of comunication is very frustrating.

    19. Nicoletti am April 18

@Peter W: 100% at par with what you wrote. The last KS project for me, regardless of the issue. I have hard time to understand how you can ask help from the KS community and once you have obtained the money, you do not feel to have any duty for the people that believe in you and your project. This is quite mysterious for me...

@John Lamerand. I agree projects like this do erode the trust in crowd funding. Is it because they are late? No. It's simple, crowd funding is about a connection between the creator and the supporters. As supporters we "invest" our own passion in to projects that inspire us or that serve needs we see not being filled. We get excited about the creative ideas the people come up with and we want the funders to succeed. I think quite reasonably we just want to be kept in the loop.

I can forgive any project that is communicative. I have a project I backed several years ago for a musician. As a backer I’ve been kept informed even to the point when someone the artist was counting on ran into hard time and couldn’t commit to the project. There was honesty and a reasonable explanation from the creator for the problems encountered. Things are back on track and that project is finally being completed. At no point have I had frustration or ill will towards that project because of the communication the artist committed to and carried out. This is what the Eora team does not appear to get.

The last update was good because it gave some status of the project and challenges. What is not good, is the breaks of silence. Eora, a company that promised good, regular communication, seems to be on a 2 month update cycle, so I’m guessing May will be the next update. This is their failure, this is how they hurt crowd funding, and this is why I’m done with Kickstarter after this project. It’s a serious problem that Kickstarter needs o address and other project need to be schooled on.

I'm sure this project will still deliver, but the damage is done.

@John Lamerand I was pointing out the dates of their updates. As you mentioned it has been 5+ weeks since the last update. With the Information they posted in the last update, I was hoping to get a new update in the beginning of April.Regrettably

    22. John Lamerand am April 14

Five weeks and two days ago we got this:
Motors and Gearbox; this was ordered over 6 weeks ago and they're currently past the lead time that was estimated, due to arrive in the next three-four weeks
Electronics; ordered and due to arrive in three-four weeks
Packaging; ordered and due to arrive in three-four weeks
So.... it might be nice to learn whether or not the Motors, Gearbox, Electronics and Packaging have arrived but as Mark Reilly points out these guys are dormant for 6-8 weeks at a time. When they say "4 weeks" is this 4 "Eora-3D-weeks" or the kind of weeks that the rest of the human population uses?
You know, my wife, who has never backed a Kickstarter, came to me this evening and asked me why we backed so many projects when there are companies like Eora that promise and don't deliver. I don't think I am alone with this experience. I am sure that there are a lot of people out there who want to believe in the projects featured on Kickstarter but there is that other voice saying "yes, but Eora". Eora is eroding public trust in crowdfunding and that is something that Kickstarter would do well to take notice of. When do we get to learn what has happened to the money? Will this happen when the 2000+ backers have waited more than a year past the delivery date? You know, every time I use the scanner I bought retail I think about how I might have saved myself the hassle of checking up on Eora, week after week, month after month.

They posted November 27th , 2016, nothing in December 2016.
They posted January 31st, 2017, nothing in February 2017.
They posted March 7th, 2017. nothing so far in April 2017.
According to their pattern in the past 6 months, they should post an update sometime in May 2017.

I have backed a good amount of projects, and never felt the need to communicate my frustrations. Some of those projects have been late, part of putting together a new product, however, the difference is the people that were putting them together were transparent. I even work for a company that is crowd funded.. you guys are REALLY BAD AT THIS. It is not that difficult to send the people that are making your dream possible a little info.

Anders, et. al., Kickstarter does require that backers receive a breakdown of the "Use of Funds" in the event there is a substantial delay in the delivery of Rewards. (not sure what triggers this)

I do not know what their official definition of "substantial delay" is, but i have had another "delayed" kickstarter that was "forced" to disclose their "books" by the "powers-at be" from Kickstarter.com

However, for me, the ONE number that would reassure me the most is: how much cash is left in the "bank" to pay for a commercial scale batch run of components for potential kits to be shipped if there are no funds left for assembly.

For what I've seen very few have been successful to sue a startup and NONE have been successful sueing IGG or K$....they have their arse covered....for now. Until they once hit a BIG one, big layer or whatever that has the guts, time and money to shut them down for making money out of scams.

The last update was quite conveniently right before they were presenting eora in a public place.
I have been patient so far, but lost my confidence by now. Also the lack of software is worrysome.

Is there a backer that has a legal background?
Action could be taken to both eora and kickstarter.
When raising funds on kickstarter, the fundraisers obligate themselves to deliver the product (article 4). Should they lack to do so, there is an opening for legal action. The question is, how long should backers wait for this?

The other thing is this; right after eora was funded via kickstarter, they also raised via indiegogo. I did not hear about that right away, otherwise I would have backed out. In my opinion, kickstarter should have informed the backers about this, since at that time most backers were still able to cancel their plea via creditcard or paypal. (Buyers protection)

Does anyone know more about either option?
      Rob

Fair enough. I certainly don't deny that there has been a constant decline since the success (completion) of the campaign in communication with everyone. It would not surprise me if their response to potential media coverage at this still "early" point would have been different than what was given to backers. I agree this article comes off as "glowing" when we know communications is not Erora's strong point.

I remember reading the the article when it was posted and thinking that it was strange as they had not been communicating well. To post such a glowing article when the creators were and are subpar communicators at best was really strange. I believe that people commented about that at the time as well.

It's important to recognize the link Peter Van Conkelberge is referencing was written almost a year ago(4/28/16). At this time, Eora was doing (IMO) a much better job at communicating and responding to backers (as far as we know). I'd be curious to hear an update from the author if he feels the same now as then.

@John Lemerand, according to the article this is what was stated, but not sure if this was part of their pitch or an interview. I'd say it's up to Eora to answer to this. Were they misquoted, or were they misrepresenting the status of the project?

    39. John Lamerand am March 19

Eora is already in 60 countries, eh?
      Not cool.
If this is true then backers have reason to be concerned.
If it is not true then backers have reason to be concerned.
Eora has either deceived backers by distributing units to non-backers or they have deceived backers by distributing units to backers while telling the rest of us that they have not done so, not yet.
So which case is in fact true?

I've generally given the Eora team a pass, but then I read this article (since they were promoting going to SXSW).

What customers in 60 countries? To date we backers are not aware of beta units having shipped and it’s not clear what components are still in process or how many actual shippable units have been produced (10, 20, 0?). You’ve actually stopped committing to a ship date.

Seriously Eora, it’s time to really start coming clean on where things stand.
-What have you actually shipped to:
      -Backers
      -Beta Testers
      -Potential Commercial partners

What is your current plan deliver to backers
      -Kickstarter First?
      -Indigogo (same time?)

I once again call on you to start doing the right thing, weekly status updates. These don’t have to be lengthy posts, just give us some idea successes and setbacks. I still don’t doubt you have a product in development, maybe ready to ship soon, but you really need to start to treat your backers with a bit more respect.

As a note to potential investors, or people looking to pre-order at this point I’d say DO NOT! Until the Eora Team improves communication and has SOLID shipping dates I’d protect your money. Once we have a product in hand, I’ll be more than happy to recommend it if it does 1/2 of what is advertised, but starting today, I’m backing way down on my support for this team.
