@John Lamerand I was pointing out the dates of their updates. As you mentioned it has been 5+ weeks since the last update. With the Information they posted in the last update, I was hoping to get a new update in the beginning of April.Regrettably
Five weeks and two days ago we got this:
Motors and Gearbox; this was ordered over 6 weeks ago and they're currently past the lead time that was estimated, due to arrive in the next three-four weeks
Electronics; ordered and due to arrive in three-four weeks
Packaging; ordered and due to arrive in three-four weeks
So.... it might be nice to learn whether or not the Motors, Gearbox, Electronics and Packaging have arrived but as Mark Reilly points out these guys are dormant for 6-8 weeks at a time. When they say "4 weeks" is this 4 "Eora-3D-weeks" or the kind of weeks that the rest of the human population uses?
You know, my wife, who has never backed a Kickstarter, came to me this evening and asked me why we backed so many projects when there are companies like Eora that promise and don't deliver. I don't think I am alone with this experience. I am sure that there are a lot of people out there who want to believe in the projects featured on Kickstarter but there is that other voice saying "yes, but Eora". Eora is eroding public trust in crowdfunding and that is something that Kickstarter would do well to take notice of. When do we get to learn what has happened to the money? Will this happen when the 2000+ backers have waited more than a year past the delivery date? You know, every time I use the scanner I bought retail I think about how I might have saved myself the hassle of checking up on Eora, week after week, month after month.
Looking at their past updates, I would expect the next one in May.
They posted November 27th , 2016, nothing in December 2016.
They posted January 31st, 2017, nothing in February 2017.
They posted March 7th, 2017. nothing so far in April 2017.
According to their pattern in the past 6 months, they should post an update sometime in May 2017.
well.. just came in and check out.. seem we are forced to be patient.. NO CREATOR COMMENT or update what they`re doing with our money for so long of time....
I have backed a good amount of projects, and never felt the need to communicate my frustrations. Some of those projects have been late, part of putting together a new product, however, the difference is the people that were putting them together were transparent. I even work for a company that is crowd funded.. you guys are REALLY BAD AT THIS. It is not that difficult to send the people that are making your dream possible a little info.
Anders, et. al., Kickstarter does require that backers receive a breakdown of the "Use of Funds" in the event there is a substantial delay in the delivery of Rewards. (not sure what triggers this)
I do not know what their official definition of "substantial delay" is, but i have had another "delayed" kickstarter that was "forced" to disclose their "books" by the "powers-at be" from Kickstarter.com
However, for me, the ONE number that would reassure me the most is: how much cash is left in the "bank" to pay for a commercial scale batch run of components for potential kits to be shipped if there are no funds left for assembly.
According to eora's last update, according to their own words, we should now be learning that they have received motors and gearbox, electronics, packaging and that Asfand has achieved a milestone in China. Nothing. Talk about an elephant; are they sure it isn't a Woolly Mammoth?
For what I've seen very few have been successful to sue a startup and NONE have been successful sueing IGG or K$....they have their arse covered....for now. Until they once hit a BIG one, big layer or whatever that has the guts, time and money to shut them down for making money out of scams.
The last update was quite conveniently right before they were presenting eora in a public place.
I have been patient so far, but lost my confidence by now. Also the lack of software is worrysome.
Is there a backer that has a legal background?
Action could be taken to both eora and kickstarter.
When raising funds on kickstarter, the fundraisers obligate themselves to deliver the product (article 4). Should they lack to do so, there is an opening for legal action. The question is, how long should backers wait for this?
The other thing is this; right after eora was funded via kickstarter, they also raised via indiegogo. I did not hear about that right away, otherwise I would have backed out. In my opinion, kickstarter should have informed the backers about this, since at that time most backers were still able to cancel their plea via creditcard or paypal. (Buyers protection)
@Peter
You're right and at that point, they hadn't missed their shipping date. Also, it was on the heels of an impressive update so it's not as bad as if a similar article would be posted today.
@Ryan George
Fair enough. I certainly don't deny that there has been a constant decline since the success (completion) of the campaign in communication with everyone. It would not surprise me if their response to potential media coverage at this still "early" point would have been different than what was given to backers. I agree this article comes off as "glowing" when we know communications is not Erora's strong point.
@Peter
I remember reading the the article when it was posted and thinking that it was strange as they had not been communicating well. To post such a glowing article when the creators were and are subpar communicators at best was really strange. I believe that people commented about that at the time as well.
It's important to recognize the link Peter Van Conkelberge is referencing was written almost a year ago(4/28/16). At this time, Eora was doing (IMO) a much better job at communicating and responding to backers (as far as we know). I'd be curious to hear an update from the author if he feels the same now as then.
@John Lemerand, according to the article this is what was stated, but not sure if this was part of their pitch or an interview. I'd say it's up to Eora to answer to this. Were they misquoted, or were they misrepresenting the status of the project?
Eora is already in 60 countries, eh?
Not cool.
If this is true then backers have reason to be concerned.
If it is not true then backers have reason to be concerned.
Eora has either deceived backers by distributing units to non-backers or they have deceived backers by distributing units to backers while telling the rest of us that they have not done so, not yet.
So which case is in fact true?
Ok, for the first time, I'm kind of pissed at eora. While I appreciate the most recent update and the "acknowledgement" that this project was more complex than they original expected. I've generally given the Eora team a pass, but then I read this article (since they were promoting going to SXSW).
" Rahul Koduri, CEO and co-founder of EORA 3-D, said the company is entirely bootstrapped. In 2015, the company raised nearly $600,000, far exceeding its $80,000 goal to launch the product. To date, the company has sold more than 4,500 units at $300 and is talks with major customers in heavy manufacturing, forensics and more, Koduri said. It already has customers in more than 60 countries that are using the scanner to digitize models for a variety of uses including 3D printing and industrial design.aOk, for the first time, I'm kind of pissed at eora. What customers in 60 countries? To date we backers are not aware of beta units having shipped and it’s not clear what components are still in process or how many actual shippable units have been produced (10, 20, 0?). You’ve actually stopped committing to a ship date.
Seriously Eora, it’s time to really start coming clean on where things stand.
-What have you actually shipped to:
-Backers
-Beta Testers
-Potential Commercial partners
What is your current plan deliver to backers
-Kickstarter First?
-Indigogo (same time?)
I once again call on you to start doing the right thing, weekly status updates. These don’t have to be lengthy posts, just give us some idea successes and setbacks. I still don’t doubt you have a product in development, maybe ready to ship soon, but you really need to start to treat your backers with a bit more respect.
As a note to potential investors, or people looking to pre-order at this point I’d say DO NOT! Until the Eora Team improves communication and has SOLID shipping dates I’d protect your money. Once we have a product in hand, I’ll be more than happy to recommend it if it does 1/2 of what is advertised, but starting today, I’m backing way down on my support for this team.
Thank you for the (long overdue) update.
The continuing delays are very disappointing, but, to my mind, justifiable when developing a new product to the highest possible standards.
I, for one, would rather wait and receive a top class product that get a shoddy one quickly.
Regarding the update: "hardware is hard" is bullshit if you know what you are doing.
It's also bullshit to not freeze the design versus revisiting it continuously to smash it down a few millimeters. Nobody cares, nobody complained, nobody authorized it, nobody signed up to that being part of the project.
It's also bullshit to go off to play in an academic sandbox, developing code for functions that are already available in 3rd party code. Lossless compression? Who do you think you are? Pied Piper?
It's also bullshit to be spending money like drunken sailors by staying at hotels in China (they are NOT cheap) for months on end, allegedly babysitting vendors when you could simply overbuild and not ship the rejects, getting refunds or new builds as guarantees by suppliers you have chosen that you apparently can't trust.
It's also bullshit to pretend that leadtimes are a problem when you are almost ten months late in delivering to your backers. The reason they are a problem? You keep changing the design, even though you are a year out from where you should have frozen it.
@Creator should be in a PANIC to get product out the door to backers vs burning off cash in one big spending party and then, a year after the delivery promise, "oops, we ran out of money". You said you merely needed certifications and you'd ship. Instead, more playtime and spend at tradeshows, expensive hotels, and with creeping features that we did not demand or sign up to. Yes, hardware is hard when you are a bunch of kids wanting to party and play vs meeting your commitments to the people that made the mistake in believing in you.
I do think they're just keeping a low head count and probably hunkering down to ship. I've had a change of address though, so I REALLY hope they get my emails and updates.
As a backer, I'd like to see a shipping update with the following information: the number of units that have been shipped as of March 1; the number of units that have been constructed and are ready to be shipped; the number of units still under construction; an estimated date when all units promised to backers be shipped. The update should also provide information on the status of the software.
Looks like they last logged in on Feb. 24th. I'm not ready call it a rip off yet and I was the first to be highly critical of them. They said end of Feb for beta backers and mid March for the rest of us. I figure they will just ship them all by mid March to save money. I'm guessing the Facebook/ Twitter guy quit or they don't need him anymore because they are about to ship. They really should give us an update. I get the impression that Raul is a genuine guy and wants to do right. Asfand seems like the, " Don't say anything," "pay for fake blog praise" kinda guy. I can't read Rich. This is my gut feeling. I have nothing to back that up....so take that with a grain of salt. All speculation
even with the hardware, with no software it is just a brick. plus didn't they get the parts made a year ago? why is it taking so long if they had all the parts in stock before certification?
I want to again propose two simple requests.
I join the request of Peter W, at this point it is reasonable to have weekly updates.
Furthermore, it is essential get answers to questions.
For the moment I do not add other considerations.
@Eora3D as we reach the end of February, please do the right thing and provide a status update on the project. Good or bad, please show your backers some respect and update us on where you stand for making delivery. Please update us on with information on:
-Delivery time for Beta units (on track or delayed?)
-Adjustments to the schedule in necessary
-Plans for beta feedback (how will you adjust things based on feedback from beta backers)
I will again point out, your lack of broad communication with your support community only does harm to your reputation, especially after several comments and posts committing to being active in answering questions and being open. Notice the positive posts from backers that follow updates vs. the rapid decline and growing posts of frustration from your lack of communication over time. As frustrating as it as been to see posts on other forums (twitter/facebook) that do not relate to delivery of the project, your recent "radio silence" does bring up cause for concern. I will once again request, on behalf of the community, please provide at least a weekly update of status going forward. Please be honest and frank about challenges that are being encountered that may be causing delays as well as successes. Thank you.
I think they forgot what they once wrote on their campaign page;
Start of quote.
"An Open Line
We are committed to making sure you are well-served as our customers. We want each and everyone of you to feel like they're involved in a one-to-one conversation with us. This means responding quickly, personally, and proactively. To ensure this, we have invested in a variety of ways you can connect with us."
"We offer 24-hour messaging on our website. Just look for the above icon at www.eora3d.com
This is the easiest way to get in touch with us. We read and reply to every message. Sometimes we may be unable to reply straight-away, in which case we will reply within a few hours."

Thank you.

End of quote.
