Sorry for the poor quality project video above.Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it. Here's the video in a better quality :) .
(>>>>>>>> DEMO <<<<<<<<)
Stay up to date with all the news for Icebergs by following our >TWITTER<
You remember right? You remember the global warming threats those idiots used to issue. You remember the fools going out into the street and yelling 'THE WORLD IS GOING TO END IF WE DON'T DO SOMETHING!'.
They don't seem like such idiots now do they?
First the icecaps melted, flooding the entire earth. Now that it is cooling again small icebergs are forming all over the place and becoming quite the nuisance for small boat owners like yourself. Not to mention all the literal piracy that is now going on.
Just try and keep your boat from sinking okay. Even if that means you have to sink a few others along the way. Don't worry about it though most of them are pirate ships (I hope) and will probably have some loot on board that you can steal.
Anyway just keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the ocean. Okay? Can you do that for me?
Icebergs is a chaotic 2D Shoot-Em-Up arcade style Indie game for Windows (With a potential Mac port on the way). It has been in the making for the past year. I developed this game by myself, however I had help with the music. I plan to have more people working on music and graphics in the foreseeable future as well.
I originally planned it to be a simple mobile game however as it got more and more complex I saw its full potential.
The feedback I have had so far from the demo has been extremely positive and makes me very optimistic for the outcome of this Kickstarter campaign. Many have been saying it is very addictive but simultaneously one of the most frustrating things they have ever played! This is what I was aiming to have for feedback. I'm sick and tired of games that are too easy and I really want to make this game as hard and as frustrating as possible. This leads me into Adventure mode...
Adventure mode is currently being made to be near impossible to complete. Judging by the current state of it I am fairly confident I won't be able to beat it and I am very excited to see Streamers and YouTubers attempt the challenge. There may even be a second harder difficulty if anyone can manage it...
Many people have already compared it to asteroids, a classic arcade game. While some inspiration was taken for the game ultimately it is so much more. With multiple game modes, customisation options and achievements, Icebergs is a completely different experience.
Many have also commented on the nostalgia they feel when they hear the soundtrack. They have said it reminds them very much of SNES game music. The Déjà vu they feel when listening is described as magical.
- 3 Unique game modes including Adventure mode with a story.
- Over 100 ships to collect.
- Upgradable power-ups to help in your travels.
- Original pixel art and soundtrack.
- Unlockable achievements for completionists.
- Mines. Lots of pesky mines.
- Make your own boat menu.
- More boats, game modes and power ups.
- Different difficulty settings.
- The first £100 will go towards getting the game on steam. This is because there is a £100 payment before uploading it there.
- A portion of the money will go towards website running costs so I can get the demo out to more people
- If we go beyond our goal then the money will be used to improve the quality of the game play, sounds and graphics to make for a better experience for the players
£500 - Improve current and future graphics
£1000 - Improve current and future sounds
£1500 - Improve current and future music
£2000 - Port the game to Mac
£3000 - Secret hidden game mode (?!?)
£5000 - Create your own boat menu
£7500 - Concept Art
£10000 - Port to Android and IOS
If the funding is successful I estimate a full release by June 2018. This game means a lot to me and I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you for all the support from everyone and I hope we can bring this game to life!
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge for me is balancing this project with my school work. For the time I have been working on this game however this has not been to much of a problem as I am good with time and work management.
My biggest risk is not having the game ready for release date. Currently it is on track however and as long as funding is met this should stay the same. If we raise more than expected then we may even have it finished earlier than expected.
Many of the other risks and challenges have already been overcome in making the demo and getting the website up and running. These however have been dealt with and apart from the two I have already explained I don't see any other risks or challenges affecting my work on Icebergs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
