This series of four interdisciplinary productions embedded within our 2017/2018 season will explore the intersections of sound, movement, dance and theater. Each production in this series borders a different genre:
Drama: "Piece Her Together" is a fully-staged theatrical production of two mono-dramatic works: Eliza Brown’s The Body of the State, a portrayal of Juana of Castile's imprisonment at the hands of her family, and Katherine Young’s When stranger things happen, a noir meditation on loss, myths of femininity, and the potential of the imagination. Each production will be directed by Emmi Hilger (Something Marvelous Artistic Director, Chicago Dramatists Associate Dramaturg), with costuming by Meriem Bahri.
Dance: Dal Niente musicians will partner with the Mazatlán-based Delfos Danza Contemporánea, integrating sound and movement in a series of works. The cornerstone of the project is a world premiere from Chicago-based composer Tomás Gueglio for four dancers and harp.
A Classic Reimagined: The project culminates in our annual Party with a new staging of Arnold Schoenberg’s classic Pierrot Lunaire, along with world premieres by Ted Hearne and Sky Macklay.
Our ensemble is known for its outstanding interpretations of new works by American and European composers. We have been described as "superb" by The New York Times; Critic John Von Rhein has said that "Dal Niente is a model of what contemporary music needs, but seldom gets, to reach and engage a wider public."
This project of staged work strikes new territory for the group, as one of the most artistically ambitious events we have ever planned. 100% of the funds raised will go to production-related costs for the STAGED series. Help us bring STAGED to the stage!

Risks and challenges
With big productions, there are a lot of costs. Most are known. We know what the artist fees cost; we know what the sound engineers and lighting designers cost. But there are often unforseen costs as well. Sometimes you need an extra light fixture, or there are travel hitches, so you just make contingency plans.
Dal Niente has a history of producing large projects. We have been around for 11 seasons now, and we produce roughly 20 concerts per season in the U.S. and abroad. We are used to contingency plans, and our staff has a history of responding with creativity and competence to both expected and unexpected challenges.
This is a particularly ambitious project for us, consisting of a lot of moving parts: artists, venues, calendars, organizations, and staff. But we are ready to and thrilled to make it happen. Your support will ensure that we are able to do so at the high level that you expect from us!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
