If at first you don't succeed...
Hello and Happy New Year!
Thank you all for your support and pledges for this project. While it is a bit sad that we did not hit the target, let us look at the bigger picture first!
We are in the top single digit percentage when it comes to pledged amounts on Kickstarter for mobile games. Unsuccessful as this campaign was, for a mobile game, we are there, at the top.
Without very precise numbers, we can say that our conversion rate was between 8 and 10%. Around one in 11 visitors to the KS page pledged their support. This is awesome and we are truly humbled by the response we got.
What went wrong and how can we fix it?
Well, there are a few things. The most important one is that we did not advertise. Very few people know about Enklave and the time to try and change this was not very well chosen. All major gaming websites are busy in December with A+ titles that are released for the holidays and as a result, indie projects don’t get mentioned.
Secondly, the product we managed to put together so far, with limited funds, was not very appealing to people that are not used to game development. We focused so much on function over form that we forgot how important the latter is, even in the early stages.
What happens next?
We understand all that we learned from this KS campaign. We go back to the drawing board and fix the problems that caused this setback. We advertise. We open up even more to our community and the whole world and explain our vision even better, while putting more effort into proving that we can make it happen.
We will have another go at a crowd funding campaign around March 2015. In addition to that, while refusing (for now) many potential backers that wanted to donate via Paypal directly, we are looking into more ways to raise capital for this project.
Over these months, we will take resources from the native client and put them back into the prototype. We can not build a proper client without a successful funding and pursuing that right now would just cause more problems. The no. 1 priority is to have a stable server that allows for seamless gameplay. After that, we will finish the initially announced features: Home Bases, Raider Camps and territory control. The Raider camps will be dynamic, moving around the map and the territory control will only have limited functionality, with the meta-game features reserved for later on.
Besides this, we are already working on improving the looks of the game. Not only that, but the feel of the game world, or rather of our alternate reality world. Some major media projects are in the works in regard to that and we will announce them very soon.
As usual, we will keep you all updated regularly on G+, FB, Twitter and soon on our website also. Almost forgot about that. The website is getting a major re-work that will fix all the small annoying issues with the Enklave submissions and profile usage, etc.
We wish you all a Happy New Year!
Your support for us has been great and really helped us push on over the bumps in the road. Stay tuned as we will bring you more very soon.
