We at Game Kings extend our greetings and thanks to you all. Tākaro is in addition to the work that has been, and is still being done by Māori people in today's world to return te Reo Māori to its principle position. We want this game to give players the ability to confidently use te Reo words in everyday conversation, no matter the location or where they are from. Tākaro is an introduction and starting point for those who are keen to learn te Reo Māori.
An all-ages card game to learn some kupu hou (new words).
We're creating an all-ages card game with the aim of helping players develop a better understanding of te Reo Māori. By learning these kupu hou we believe players will become more confident in their use of te Reo within day to day life and conversation. As a result, we hope to normalise and strengthen the use of te Reo Māori within our various communities.
The game is incredibly simple yet entertaining and fun for the whole whānau. Each card features a number of symbols. Each of these symbols will have a direct Māori translation, which players will need to memorise and learn. Players will flip over two cards competing to find the matching symbols; the first player to call out the correct translation wins the round.
Tākaro can be played by ages 4+ with each round lasting 10-15 minutes. It will rely on the recognition of 57 various symbols, and the correct pronunciation of their Māori names.
By the end of the game players will be able to confidently recall a number of the symbols and their corresponding te Reo Māori translations helping to expand their vocabulary.
Delivery & Track record.
How did our last kickstarter go?
While the game writing and design for Tākaro is all finished, the final 57 image artworks we have settled upon will not be revealed until the games delivery.
We're currently on track to start production in early July 2019 and we plan to be delivering the game in Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week), September 2019.
Our last kickstarter raised over 900% of it original goal & we were able to deliver over 3000 units early. This time we've further refined our production process and have greatly reduced the potential for project delays.

Risks and challenges
Alright, let's talk about our main risk
- Delivery Time.
Our Goal is to deliver this in September 2019. We believe we've been pretty generous with our delivery times but as you'll know things don't always go to plan. We actually believe we could deliver this early. You know the old saying, " Under promise and over deliver". That's certainly what we're trying to do with this project.
We're working with a Fantastic production company who has a great reputation, to produce and ship this game in record time.
