Read below for more in depth details:
What's the project? We're creating an attraction in Central London where you can play immersive live escape games.
What's a live escape game? It's a fun-filled activity based on a video game that you can do with your friends and family. We lock your team of 2 to 5 players in a room, and you must explore your surroundings to find clues and solve puzzles. Your objective is to figure a way out and escape the room - all within 60 minutes. It's like playing a cooperative video game, but in a real interactive environment!
Who's this for? It's great fun for teams of friends, family, colleagues, students - anyone really. It's great as a "something to do" and even better as a team building exercise. Instead of going to the cinema, why not try a live escape game here at Enigma Escape?
How much does it cost? Our original price is from £22 per player BUT - we're offering DISCOUNTED tickets and other goodies if you pledge to our project. Read more about these rewards below. Select a reward on the right to make a pledge >>>
Have you researched into your competitors? Yes. Most of the games we played were actually rather fun. However upon reflection, none of the games we played actually made any sense. They were really just puzzles hunts...find all the keys to open all the padlocks and you've escaped. Some games tried to integrate a story, but the story quickly became irrelevant and we were left with the same ol' puzzle hunt. Don't get us wrong, hunting for puzzles can be fun, but we feel that a live escape game can be so much more than this.
How are you different? We wanted to create games that are both fun to play and make a lot of sense. That's why our games will be entirely story-driven. We'll tell you a story of how your team became locked in, then whatever happens next is your story. All the puzzles that prevent you from your escape are natural, meaning that if you think logically, you'll reveal the solution. Designing the puzzles in this way allows us to create a sense of realism to your scenario. Even if you've played live escape games before, you'll definitely find our take on the game a real challenge. And what makes us the most different, is that we've created games that are immersive - see below:
Why are your games 'immersive'? We want to pay tribute to the origin of live escape games (the escape video game), so we've created an experience with video game like features to make you feel more 'immersed'. These include watching cinematic videos before and after the game to round up the story; background music to set the atmosphere; sound effects at key moments during the game; and other things that you'll just have to wait and see...
What's The Enigma Escape Experience? We've designed an experience around our live escape games so that everyone will enjoy their visit regardless of whether completing the game or not. Your experience will last up to 90 minutes and follows this structure:
- Short briefing on the rules of the game.
- Chapter 1: Watch an intro video for your chosen game.
- Chapter 2: Play the live escape game.
- Chapter 3: Watch an ending video for your game (there are at least 2 different endings).
- Short debriefing on your experience. Take photos and take home your prizes.
How many games do you have? To save on startup costs we're starting the business with one game. More games will be available in the future. See below for details on "The Killer".

The Killer - Chapter 2:
The Killer - Chapter 3:
The Survivor's Medallion: If your team escapes within 60 minutes then each player in your team will win a medallion that's specially designed for that game. For all our games there will be a different design - so try and collect them all! Below is what the medallion for "The Killer" game looks like.
- Game time allowed: 60 minutes
- Hints allowed: 5
- Team size: 2-5 players
- Age recommended: 15+
- Special Notes: Due to the theme of the story we recommend that players are aged 15 or over. Therefore, teams that have players aged below the age of 15 need to have at least one player that's 15 or over. The minimum age to play is 10. There are no actors or scary elements in the game. There's no need to use physical force in the game - just teamwork, imagination and logical thinking. Due to restrictive features in the game, the game is not suitable for wheelchair users or players with mobility issues. Please message us if you have any queries regarding the game or the experience.
How much money do you need to raise? The bulk of the cost goes to renting a unit that's in shell and core condition. We need to construct all the walls, floors, ceilings, everything from scratch. Setting up the premises in this way will give us the most freedom in design, which will further add to the immersiveness that we're trying to achieve. We've calculated we need £60,000 for the entire project, and with our life savings of £55,000, we need your collective help to raise the remaining £5,000 to reach our goal.
What will your total of £60,000 be used for? Below shows a rough breakdown:
If you pledge money to us, we'll give you a reward, and the type of reward depends on how much you pledge.
For those that want to help but can't pledge, you can still help us by telling your friends and sharing our project - thank you!
For a low cost option, or you do not live in the UK - see below:
If you want to pre-book a game to play "The Killer" - see below. You'll have to decide how many friends you want to bring, and the more friends the cheaper it'll be per person. One month before we open, we'll let you know (before the public) that our website's booking system is live. On the website, you'll be able to reserve a date and time to play. These tickets will not expire which is perfect for a gift option. Not only are we discounting our prices for this campaign, but each player in your team will receive [BRICK] and [MEDAL] rewards too!
For those who want a SPECIAL reward that's exclusive to this campaign only - see below:
- We'll be open every day including most public holidays, with time slots per game starting every 1 hour 45 minutes. The first time slot is 10:15am, and the last at 10:00pm.
- We'll be located within 3 minutes walking distance from Holloway Road Underground Station in Central London.
- If you turn up to the game at your booked time and you have more players than booked, the difference to pay would be the original price, minus your reward discount, minus what you have already pledged. E.g. You pledged £81 for a 4 player ticket, and you brought a 5th player. The difference is £110 - 15% discount - £81 = £12.50 to pay. (We've done the maths - you'll still pay less than our original prices). Please note that the maximum number of players per game is 5 players.
- If you turn up to the game at your booked time with less players than booked, unfortunately there will be no refunds for the missing players. Please note that the minimum number of players to play the game is 2 players.
What happens if you don't reach your £5,000 target? Kickstarter will not charge you if you've pledged. We'd be able to pay our bills with our life savings, but we'll be short for props and equipment, so we'll most certainly push back our launch date. We may run the campaign again, ask to borrow from friends and family, and look into borrowing from the bank so that we keep to schedule. We won't open for business until everything is perfect.
What happens if you reach your £5,000 target? We'd have enough money to pay all the startup costs and OPEN! Thank you for your support and you'll have our eternal gratitude. Kickstarter will process your pledge and transfer it to us, and we'll look forward to processing your rewards. Follow our campaign and our social media for progress updates.
Ideal Timeline: If we reach our £5,000 target, this will be our ideal timeline of events:
How are they related? Sam and Hon are cousins, good friends, gaming buddies, poker rivals, and now business partners.
How did the business start? In February 2014, Sam went on a holiday to Hungary and experienced his first live escape game. He loved it and on his return to the UK he researched into where else he could play nearer to home. He was surprised to find that there was little presence of live escape games in the UK, compared to the rest of the world. He also discovered that the industry is relatively new, and saw signs that it's becoming a globally trending business model. It was clear to Sam that the UK market is still wide open and the perfect opportunity to get into business. Furthermore, Sam loves puzzles and has just happened to have played hundreds of escape video games in his childhood - how fitting. After 2 days of deliberation he told his boss that he would quit his job, and start his own live escape game company.
In May 2014, Sam told Hon about his business idea and he was intrigued. Sam offered Hon a job to be a co-founder and shortly after, Hon quit his job too.
Together they began their quest in starting up a company.
Thank you for pledging to our project and we hope to see you soon!
Risks and challenges
Our contractor has assured us that the construction will take up to 10 weeks and they have never been late. We'll oversee the construction and when a finish date seems certainly fixed, we'll open the booking system on our website for you to reserve your game. We're aiming to open the booking system one month before our launch date. For you Kickstarter backers, you'll have exclusive access to the booking system for 1 day before the public. Follow our campaign and our social media to keep updated with our progress and please bear with us if there are any delays. We're committed to providing the best game experience for our customers so we assure you it'll be worth the wait.
Our supplier manufactured and delivered our 'The Killer' medallions in 3 weeks. We trust that they can keep to the same schedule for your Kickstarter edition medallions. We're committed to provide the best quality to you so if we feel that the medallions we receive are not up to standard, we'll contact our supplier for replacements. Again, we'll update you on our progress and please bear with us on any delays.
We'll decide on how we'll fulfil our medallion deliveries depending on how many orders we have. If it's a manageable number we'll take it to the post office ourselves. Otherwise, we'll use a fulfilment service. We'll track all deliveries and if there are any delays we'll keep you posted.
