WHAT ARE ENERGY BALLS?
Little healthy snacks, made from raw ingredients like nuts, seeds and maple syrup.
The ingredients are mixed together and rolled into balls. They keep fresh in the fridge for up to 7 days. There's no baking and hardly anything to wash up!
WHAT WILL AN ENERGY BALL RECIPE KIT LOOK LIKE?
It will be a letterbox shaped kit with all the ingredients (dry and wet) that you need to make 30 energy balls. There will also be a recipe card inside to guide you through the steps.
We think it'll be perfect as a regular healthy eating habit, or a gift for someone else.
The Kickstarter Energy Boxes will be one-off purchases of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.
>> PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A PROTOTYPE AND THE ACTUAL PRODUCT MAY LOOK SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT <<
WHAT DOES THE FIRST BOX CONTAIN?
The first recipe will be 'Chocolate Chip'. We're starting simple. Although we're looking forward to the days when we can send out rose water and beetroot recipes and get really adventurous.
TELL ME ABOUT THE PLASTIC-FREE PACKAGING:
The ingredients will be neatly packaged separately into see-through bags. These are not plastic, they are plant-based, and fully compostable.
The cardboard box will be FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified board, which means it's from responsible sources, and that's recyclable. Even the sticker on the front of the box will be biodegradable.
WHY ARE YOU LAUNCHING ON KICKSTARTER?
As this is a BRAND NEW concept, we need a big platform to shout about our innovative product. So we can find YOU! :)
It would be ideal to sell 200-500 boxes in the first month, that would start us off comfortably and then we can build from there with online marketing PR, and events such as Vegan Food Festivals and Wellbeing Events.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SO FAR?
Victoria has already invested for the past year into recipe development, outsourced services, equipment, test ingredients, market research, the website and getting the physical prototype ready.
A round of initial research in May 2018 via Toluna gathered the thoughts of 120 people. We asked them:
- What do you usually snack on?
- Who do you make snacks for?
- How important is it that these snacks are quick to make and healthy?
- Have you used a recipe kit before? (15.2% said yes)
- **Then we showed them the prototype**
- Would you be interested in a kit like this? (64.8% said yes)
- How frequently would you like the box to be delivered?
- Would you prefer just dry ingredients or wet and dry ?
- How concerned are you that the packaging is eco-friendly? (95% said moderately, very or extremely concerned)
- What kind of flavours would you like us to add into the box?
So we've used the responses from this research and a lot of the terminology used to formulate our branding, packaging and business ethos.
WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THE MONEY?
With the Kickstarter money, minus their 8-10% fee, we'll buy the ingredients and packaging.
So we're currently speaking to 4 raw food suppliers, asking for:
- Technical specifications (allergens etc)
- Current stock best before dates
- Their delivery lead times
to ensure that everything is in place to order as soon as the Kickstarter money comes through.
WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
ANYTHING ELSE EXCITING TO TELL US?
Actually, yes! We've been invited to add a recipe into Version 2 of The Derbyshire Cookbook, which will go to print with 7000 copies in August 2018! We'll be rubbing shoulders with Fischers of Baslow Hall and Chatsworth House you know!! :)

Victoria and her Mum Della will pack the ingredients into the boxes by hand as the orders come in. They have a Development Kitchen lined up!
Risks and challenges
Everything is in place to order the ingredients and start to pack. We've had a run through of mass packaging, completed food hygiene certificates and there's not really anything (touch wood) that would be a risk or a challenge.
If we don't hit the £2500 Kickstarter sales, we'll revert to online marketing, PR and events such as Vegan Food Festivals and Ultimate Wellbeing.
If sales go mad, then that's a good problem to have. We'll have the money to fund the boxes, and if it's going to take a little longer than expected to fulfil the orders then we'll keep our customers up to speed with why there's a delay and when they will expect their box.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
