EndGame Gaming presents....
LABYRINTH: THE LICH LORD'S LAIR
Labyrinth: The Lich Lord's Lair is a tabletop, fantasy role-playing, multi-path adventure game that is unique in the sense that YOU (and/or your party, if you are playing with multiple players) choose your own destiny(s); that by your own choices YOU determine the OUTCOME of the story. In fact, sometimes, your very fate(s) might even depend on the roll of the dice....
The newest addition to our monster compendium.... the manticore!
THE BACK STORY (an actual excerpt from the forthcoming game)
THE LICH'S CURSE
The Kingdom of Olomar had, at one time, been a mecca of trade and commerce, but a terrible curse placed on the land by the Lich Lord, coupled with the ravages of war and a great famine, have transformed much of this once prosperous nation into a desolate wasteland. Now, overrun by the undead, and savage beasts and men alike, only a few scattered villages dare to even call this god-forsaken land their home.
Perhaps the most famous, if not notorious, of all landmarks in the Kingdom of Olomar is the mysterious Legorian Labyrinth. Built directly into the base of a gigantic plateau, its origin and creation date back a millenium when it was constructed by an ancient elven race called the Legorians. Its exact purpose and intent remain a mystery to this day, but now, fiendish traps and fearsome denizens await those who are foolish enough to enter its gates, and many are the brave souls that have perished seeking out its fabled treasure.
THE LICH LORD
Once a powerful magician skilled in the art of necromancy, the wizard, Sineus, sought to defy death and gain eternal life through divination and the dark arts. Little did he know, that in doing so, he would suffer a fate far worse than death, immortalized as one of the undead, and doomed forever to haunt the stygian depths of the Legorian Labyrinth.
Your quest begins now….
‘A fool’s quest,’ they declared, shaking their heads in disbelief. ‘Reckless and foolhardy,’ said others, ‘and one that will surely claim your life.’ In any event, you have never been one to shy away from a challenge, and in this case, the lure of adventure and the promise of great treasure are just too tempting....
An undead bear... one of the many terrifying denizens of the labyrinth!
SO... WHAT MAKES THIS GAME UNIQUE?
- You get to decide where the story goes! By no means a new concept, Labyrinth: The Lich Lord's Lair is a multi-path, tabletop game modeled after the Choose Your Own Adventure and Fighting Fantasy style books. Because the outcome of the story is determined by the choices you and/or your party make, this creates a more intimate gaming experience for everyone, and a new adventure every time you and your friends play! It is also the first in a series of Labyrinth adventures to come!
- An engaging storyline, coupled with tons of incredible artwork from high-caliber fantasy artist, Ilya Shkipin. In fact, all of the artwork above that you see in this campaign was created by Ilya specifically for Labyrinth: The Lich Lord's Lair, and are just a taste of what is to come!
- Single Player or Multiplayer! Labyrinth: The Lich Lord's Lair can be played by yourself, or can be modified to create a multiplayer adventure experience for you and your friends!
- Simple game mechanics! We at EndGame wanted to create a game that you, the player, can actually spend playing, not learning, but enjoying, without feeling intimidated by it. We want our adventurers to get right into it, without wasting precious time doing a bunch of math, and filling out tons of confusing boxes that only further complicate the game play. With our game, character creation is super easy, and our simple turn-based, dice roll combat system delivers a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat combat experience that is both engaging, and maintains the flow of the game.
- Appealing to gamers of all different levels and backgrounds! In fact, a recent beta test of the prototype/draft of this game received rave reviews and positive and enthusiastic responses from both hardcore and casual gamers alike!
- Approximately 2-1/2 to 3 hours tops to complete an adventure! One of the more engaging and attractive aspects of this game is that it was created knowing that people like you lead active and busy lifestyles.
- Different strokes for different folks! For the avid reader and casual gamer, Labyrinth: The Lich Lord's Lair will be available as an adventure gamebook in a PDF version, complete with all of the artwork, that you can take anywhere with you on your mobile device, tablet, or laptop or play on your desktop at work when the boss is not around. For the tabletop enthusiast, the game will be available as a tabletop game in a full-color box, complete with a high-quality, fully-illustrated ADVENTURE book, CHARACTER PROFILE sheets, a BATTLE CHEST containing one set of custom HERO dice and one set of custom ENEMY dice, CREATURE CARDS, INVENTORY CARDS, TREASURE TOKENS, and a tabletop SATCHEL for your INVENTORY CARDS. And finally, if we hit Stretch Goal #2, we will be bringing the Lich Lord to PC as an exciting, interactive fantasy RPG video game. Each format of the game will obviously have unique features that the other ones will not.
HERE IS ANOTHER EXCERPT FROM THE GAME....
Up ahead, you can hear the loud roars of a large predatory cat, probably an adult lion, its deep-throated cries reverberating through the tunnel system. Although the ferocious beast is still not within your line of sight, you know that you are close, and begin to approach more cautiously, weapon in hand. Rounding a sharp bend in the tunnel, you step out into an enormous cavern, and what you see next makes your heart race and literally causes you to tremble in fear. Sitting at the far end of the chamber is a creature with the bushy mane and body of a lion, but with the face of a man! Giant bat-like wings sprout from its muscular shoulders, with each one of its four powerful paws sporting razor-sharp talons. In lieu of a lion’s tail is the heavy segmented tail of a scorpion, terminating in a large, venomous barb. You realize that the creature you are seeing is a manticore! As a child, you thought that the manticore was just a ghost story; tales told by night to frighten the children. But the flesh-and-blood creature standing before you is anything but a child’s fairytale. Upon noticing you, the manticore lets out a blood-curdling roar, and charges full speed towards you.
MANTICORE 65 HEALTH
If you defeat the manticore, go to 111
If you are killed by the manticore, go to 349
A charging hill giant... one of the many terrifying monsters you will face during your adventures! And yes, I said, "adventures" plural!
THE GAME MECHANICS IN DETAIL
Creating Your Character
Included with this fantasy adventure game are several CHARACTER PROFILE sheets.
In the space provided, write your character’s NAME.
Next, choose the RACE of your character. You can be a HUMAN, an ELF, a HALF-ORC, a HALFLING, or a DWARF. Please note, that if you choose to be a dwarf, you cannot be a mage because dwarves by nature are unable to use magic.
The next step is to choose your GENDER.
In this game, you can choose to be one of two CHARACTER CLASSES. You can either be a WARRIOR or a MAGE. On your CHARACTER PROFILE sheet(s), choose your CHARACTER CLASS now.
YOUR HEALTH SCORE
Underneath your CHARACTER CLASS, you will see a column with the word HEALTH above it. This is where you will keep track of your HEALTH score as well as any damage taken during combat. Your default HEALTH score is always 50, and any damage inflicted by your opponent(s) during combat is subtracted from this number.
After each combat encounter, though not expressly stated in the narrative, you, and any members in your party, rest so that you can dress your wounds and recover from battle. Your HEALTH score will then reset itself back to its original default of 50.
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Next, you will see a column entitled SKILLS, and beneath it the following words:
Next to the column entitled SKILLS, you will see another column entitled ATTRIBUTES, and beneath it the following words:
Roll 2 six-sided dice (2d6) for each of the abilities and attributes listed on your CHARACTER PROFILE sheet(s). These will be your CHARISMA, STEALTH, LOCK-PICKING, and PICK-POCKETING skill levels, and your STRENGTH, INTELLECT, RESISTANCE, and LUCK attribute levels. Please note that as the game progresses, you will have opportunities to increase the levels of these skills. Write these numbers next to their corresponding skills and attributes now on your CHARACTER PROFILE sheet(s).
LUCK is not a skill, nor is it really an attribute. Nevertheless, opportunities will present themselves during your adventure(s) that will determine how lucky or unlucky you are.
Last, but not least, you will see a large box with the heading MONSTERS KILLED. This is where you can keep track of all the various monsters and enemies you have encountered and defeated during your adventure.
Playing With Multiple Players
Not only can this game be played as a single-player adventure, but it can also be modified to create a multiplayer experience for you and your friends. This especially comes into play when facing an opponent. In order to make these encounters more challenging for you and your party, you may be asked at times to increase the number of opponents you are fighting to accommodate the number of members in your party. In other instances, you may be told to increase the HEALTH score of your opponent(s).
In addition, whatever items you and your partner(s) may discover during your quest are multiplied as well by the NUMBER of PLAYERS in your party, so that each of you can add the INVENTORY CARDS of the corresponding items to your own individual tabletop SATCHEL(s).
What we didn't want to do was this....
We wanted the battle mechanics of our game to be simple and unintimidating, so we created a system that would appeal to both the hardcore gamer and even the most casual of gamers alike. You might even say that it is elementary because even a child can play. In fact, we recently beta-tested the combat elements with three children ages 11, 10, and 6, and because it is so simple, all three immediately understood the concept and thoroughly enjoyed fighting various monsters that we pitted against them.
It was also our desire that the combat be fast-pasted and edge-of-your-seat, without the flow of the gameplay being interrupted or bogged down by the complication of too many in-game mechanics, or having to do a lot of math.
For the very same reasons stated above, we also made the character creation on our HERO PROFILE sheet pretty much a no-brainer!
The combat in this RPG fantasy adventure game is a TURN-BASED, DICE ROLL system.
Who attacks first, whether it is you and your partner(s), or your opponent(s), is based on different factors. For example, if you surprise your opponent or catch them unawares, then by default you would get to attack first, and vice versa, the same would apply if a monster gets the jump on you.
If you are the one attacking, roll all 3 six-sided HERO dice (3d6) for your attack and then roll all 3 ENEMY dice for your opponent. If your roll is the HIGHER of the two, then your attack is successful. If your opponent’s roll is EQUAL TO or HIGHER, your attack either missed, or was deflected or blocked by your opponent. If your attack is successful, roll 3 six-sided dice (3d6) to determine the AMOUNT OF DAMAGE that was inflicted by your attack, and subtract that amount from your opponent’s HEALTH score. Keep a tally of that damage on a blank sheet of paper.
The sequence of combat is exactly the same when your opponent is attacking you. Roll all 3 six-sided ENEMY dice (3d6) for your opponent’s attack and then roll all 3 HERO dice for your defense roll. If your opponent’s roll is the HIGHER of the two, then your opponent’s attack is successful. If your counter roll is EQUAL TO or HIGHER, your opponent’s attack either missed or you have successfully deflected or blocked your opponent’s attack. If your opponent’s attack is successful, roll 3 six-sided dice (3d6) to determine the AMOUNT OF DAMAGE that was inflicted by your opponent, and subtract that amount from your HEALTH score.
Rolling 3 of the EXACT SAME NUMBER during your attack constitutes a potential CRITICAL BLOW to your opponent, and vice versa, when they are attacking. For example, let’s say that you roll 3 fives. Your opponent must now roll a 15, 16, 17, or 18 in order to deflect or block your attack. If your opponent is unable to counter your attack with a successful dice roll, your opponent is automatically dealt an ADDITIONAL 10 points of damage to their HEALTH score IN ADDITION to the damage that they are going to receive from the damage dice roll. In other words, a critical hit is an ADDITIONAL 10 points of damage on top of the damage received from the 3 dice damage roll (3 + 4 + 6 + 10). The same holds true if your opponent is attacking you and rolls 3 of the EXACT SAME NUMBER. Your counter roll must be EQUAL TO or HIGHER in order to deflect or block your opponent’s attack, or you will automatically sustain an ADDITIONAL 10 points of damage to your HEALTH score IN ADDITION to the damage received by the 3 dice damage roll.
Multiple opponents are treated as if you are fighting a single monster, and only get one attack roll because they are all attacking simultaneously.
When doing a multiplayer experience, when it is your turn to attack, each player in your party gets an attack roll, but your opponent will also get to counter roll against each one of those attacks. The same holds true if your opponent is attacking your party. Each member in your party will also get a defensive counter roll.
During combat, you also have the opportunity to use HEALTH potions or even a RESURRECTION potion. These can only be used when it is your turn to attack, but if you decide to use them, you will have to skip your turn and will not be able to attack until the next round.
Throughout the game, you will find various items that can be used during the course of your adventure. Whenever you find an item, be it a potion, weapon, or something else, simply find the corresponding INVENTORY CARD for that item and place it in your tabletop SATCHELS(s). INVENTORY CARDS can be used throughout the course of your game. Whenever consumable items, like food and potions, are used, their corresponding INVENTORY CARDS must be removed from your tabletop SATCHEL(s) and returned to the deck of INVENTORY CARDS in the middle of the table.
When doing a multiplayer experience, unless otherwise specified, most items that you find are multiplied by the NUMBER of ADVENTURERS in your party, so that each one of you may add the corresponding INVENTORY CARDS for those items to your own SATCHEL(s).
You begin your quest with TWO items. If you chose to be a WARRIOR, you will start this adventure with a sword and leather armor. If you chose MAGE as your CHARACTER CLASS, your journey begins with a magical staff and a mage’s robe. Depending on which CHARACTER CLASS you chose, find the two corresponding INVENTORY CARDS for the items designated to that CHARACTER CLASS and place them in your tabletop SATCHEL(s).
Throughout your adventure(s), you will also find gold, either from chests or from looting the bodies of your fallen enemies. Gold is represented by the TREASURE TOKENS included with this game, with each one being worth 5 gold pieces. Whenever you find treasure, simply grab the equivalent value of TREASURE TOKENS and place them on your tabletop SATCHEL(s).

"There's definitely a market for it. A lot of similar games would take a lot more dedication. It may lack a connection to the character the player is playing, but that's the trade off with a simpler creation process. I like the fact that the game can easily scale to meet party size, and with a more basic combat system, balancing that scale is easy. The big drawback to D&D and Pathfinder is the minimum group size requirements and the set up time, but this game tackles both of those issues nicely." -Matt, 12-year WOW and D&D veteran, and Pathfinder enthusiast.
