Matmurah

"...legends speak of a colossal maze that extends deep underground, "Matmurah", this bullet hell fortress is said to be the the place where ancient relics with powers beyond our understanding lie, vanished from the overworld for causing wars, conflicts and diseases amongs all who wished their powers. Rumors say that some of these relics give life to the dead, other takes it from the living and even one of them allows it's holder to manipulate time at will. Only the bravest warriors would even dare to think about going inside Matmurah, since Relics are guarded by some of the deadlies and scariest creatures to have ever existed..." Are you ready to inmerse on the passageways of the Matmurah? Are you nimble enough to dodge, resist and survive the cruel punishes of this new underworld?

Discover an epic underworld filled with enemies which destroy everything on their way, you'll have at your disposal a vast array of weapons to help you finish them all.  Learn how to enhance your aim and even upgrade weapons, leading to fantastic shootouts filled with action, your wits and reflexes will be your best ally. Action, upgrade systems, allies, destructible environments, strong enemies, epic weapons, final bosses, hazards and much more... What are you waiting for to be the the next VaultRaider.

VaultRaider's gameplay is focused on fast-paced combat, that demands patience, perseverance and strategy, Which means you'll have to train to become worthy of a relic. Facing an ever increasing amount of enemies everytime you join a room, the player can move and shoot freely in all directions.

The player has at his disposal a vast array of weapons which increases as you progress through the game to help you clear all rooms in the dungeon and proceed to face the area's boss. There are 3 areas at the moment (2 in progress) and many more to be developed, each one with their own biomes, hazards and enemies.

Procedurally Generated Dungeons

  • Be sure to watch your step because every dungeon will be different, combining procedurally-generated labyrinths (zelda inspired) with meticulously hand-designed rooms, filled with unique enemies and deadly hazards to watch out for, guaranteeing that you will always be presented with new challenges and experiences to test your skills.
  • Your ability to fight and survive will be constantly put to the test in this massive Fortress. Biomes include forests, ruins, icy caverns, lava filled dungeons, and much more!.

Permanent Death

  • As your character's hp drops to 0 you lose all progress from that run and the game lists all of your accomplishments during that play through, but don't worry there's lots of unlockables to make yourself stronger with every run.
  • We love fast-paced combat, clashes with attacks all over the place where you have to use every single structure as a defensive resource, which is why firearms are protagonists in this history.
  • There are Different types of guns to end your opponents in whichever way you want, each gun has it's own unique characteristics plus and special ability usable when you've succesfully hit enemies a set amount of times to give you some breating room, you are able to carry up to 2 weapons so swap between them and use whichever is better suited to the situation.
  • Be carefull every weapon has it's own limited clip, whenever it's empty you'll have to reload it. Shoot wisely and you'll come up triumphant.

  • All Weapons will have a progression system, you'll be able to enhance your favorite weapon to the max or improve them all little by little to make your entire armory better.

 This is barely and starting point, for the final version of the game we're expecting to have over 60 different weapons.

Epic Items

  • On this action packed bullet hell adventure we couldn't leave aside items & powerups which will help you defeat all your enemies.
  • Make your character unstoppable in whichever dungeon you're raiding by finding out the perfect item combination that fits your playstyle, but use them wisely as some of them could be carrying their own curses and penalties.
  • Ranging from ancient idols which grant your projectiles the ability to bounce off walls to echanted bullets to steal life from your opponents.
  • These dungeons aren't just traps and hazards, they are also filled with a variety of enemies, including mini bosses. So steady your aim because every fight is more challenging than the previous.  
  • You have to face a wide variety of enemies which shoot non-stop, be very careful and dodge as many bullets as you can if you don't want to face Death. They will always be trying to kill you, either by surrounding you or shooting from their maximun range so trust your wits and reflexes if you want to survive as you much as possible.
  • Enemies can wield almost every weapon, From short range Shotguns, Rapid firing Machineguns to Long Range Accurate Sniper Rifles and even devastating Grenade Launchers.

Major Influences:

  • Enter the Gungeon - I found myself speding over 100 hours (according to steam) playing this amazing mix between top-down Shooter and dungeon crawler.  
  • Nuclear Throne - One of my favorite games of all times, a top-down shooter masterpiece, I still have a source-code piece of their original prototype "Wasteland Kings" for game maker and even after 3 years have passed, I still take a look at it from time to time to, it's amazing how much I learned from Vlambeer about "game feel".   
  • The Binding of Isaac / Rogue Legacy / Spelunky - These three games are our main inspirations to make the game a rogue-lite, the way these games took the rogue-like and turn it into something much more enjoyable and appealing for a wider audience it's simply amazing, VaultRaiders relies heavily on permadeath and procedural level generation so I guess it could be called "rogue-lite".

Creator's Note:

The history of Matmurah is just starting... There is no specific desnity nor a definite pattern in time yet. However, with your help the making of this war fantasy focused in treasures, forbidden lands and humans hungry for power will be possible and easier. The Matmurah is a paradise filled with promises, but also great danger, only the brave will be able to stand this exciting experience filled with adrenaline, speed and action.

 

Risks and challenges

Creating a game is not an easy task, even less one with roguelike elements/features. However, as of now, we are extemely confident that we can fully complete and release this game on time and with an even higher level of detail than we have at the moment.

Currently the game is in a playable state, with a huge to do list but most of the core mechanichs have already been implemented such as procedural level and room generation, weapons systems, basic enemies AI, etc.

The biggest risk I can think of at the moment is getting outsourcing for things such as Animations and sound effects/music, luckily I have already contacted a great sound designer Joonas Turner who has worked in some other great projects such as: Nuclear Throne, Downwell, Broforce and many more...
