About this project
I have been working as a web designer for the past 10 years. It is frustrating to create designs in photo editors that you don't know whether it works with web browsers or not.
Hi kickstarter, my name is Mariz Melo and I am here to talk with you about xchema frontend. Frontend is a magical tool that provides an easy way to create websites and apps for desktop and mobile devices directly from your browser. With xchema frontend you can design and see the result simultaneously.
- You can think about frontend as an open source PhotoShop for web design. Why would you use a tool that is being used for editing photos to create websites? With xchema frontend you will have all the common features of a photo editor, such as: zoom, text boxes, squares, select, rotate, etc.

Drag and Drop
The entire system is based on drag and drop (experienced developers can also have access to a source code editor). It is easy to drag components and elements from the sidebar into the project and see the working result.
Components are an easy way for you to add interactive content to your projects. You can simply drag and drop a component from the sidebar into your project and see the result. Examples of components are: slideshows, Google Maps, twitter feeds, Facebook login, and many more... Developers and designers can create their own components that can be used within xchema frontend.
I would also like to mention xchema xtyle, the web framework built to give support to xchema frontend. Xtyle takes care of creating the basic HTML and CSS that will be used by frontend. This project is already in progress and can be downloaded for free from its Github repository today. You can still select Bootstrap or Foundation as your web framework.
Templates are an easy way to get started with xchema frontend projects. If you are a designer you can also create your own templates, send to the xchema frontend official website, and make them available to other users online. Creating templates are as easy as using xchema frontend. Just select the create template option on the start dialog. Here are some examples of available templates:
Simply use your wireless connection at home to preview projects on your computer, phone, tablet, AppleTV, Google Chromecast, and more.
How does it Work?
Frontend was built by using Node.js. The information about your projects will be stored in MongoDB. You can also choose other popular databases, such as MySQL, SQLite, Postgres, etc later on. The system runs on top of a VM (Virtual Machine) using Vagrant. The advantage of using VM environment is that you don't need to concern about the backend technology. The only thing you will need to do is to install the VM on your machine and start using it.
Xchema frontend runs in any HTML5 ready modern desktop web browser. IE support will be limited to version 9+, note that this is a limitation only for the editor. Projects created by xchema frontend will be compatible with all web browsers on desktop, and mobile.
We are asking your help because we would want to give 100% focus to xchema frontend, and it is not possible by doing our daily jobs. With your support we will be able to afford renting a working space, work full-time, hire talents, and bring frontend to your hands.
Remember, frontend is an open source project. That means it is already yours, you are not buying a license here, instead your are supporting the future of web design and development.
Meet the Team
Mariz Melo and Samira Salour, both love web technologies. We've met at College and have never gotten apart. Our mission is to create the easiest and most powerful way of designing web sites and applications. Join us.
Risks and challenges
Similar to all other projects there are some challenges ahead of us. Backing the project is the first step to have this tool available and ready for everyone. Delivery on time, November 2014, is our biggest concern. A Github repository is already setup with the basic application code. Xchema frontend is a tool to empower users letting them create content that matters without being hold back by details. Technology should help us to express our ideas and that is exactly what frontend aims to do. Thank you for your support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
