Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a one week trip that occurs during Emerson College’s spring break. It is an opportunity for students to experience a new culture in a fulfilling manner. Students participate in volunteering for the week with non-profit organizations and reflect upon these experiences. This year, three student filmmakers have been selected to document the ASB trips to Pensacola, FL, New York, NY, and Boston, MA. http://www.emersonasb.org/
In addition to documenting the trips themselves, our Emerson College student filmmakers plan to capture the activities leading up to and following the week of service. We have already begun to document the activities leading up to this year's trips. The aim of this project is to relay the process of creating the ASB opportunity, the service that results, and the education about the service experience that follows on the Emerson College campus. We anticipate a screening of the films that result from this process at the end of April or beginning of May 2011. Emerson ASB would also like to use the results to recruit future program participants and funding.
The funding raised through Kickstarter will be used to acquire the equipment necessary to make the documentary and cover the costs associated with including one student filmmaker on each trip.
