A feature length documentary that will unite women across the globe to love their bodies! Read more
This project was successfully funded on July 2, 2014.
About this project
The original budget of $200,000 was the bare minimum that it was going to cost for us to make this documentary.
Every single dollar that comes in from this point will increase the value and the quality of this film and help us tell our story with more clarity.
With the extra funding:
I will travel around the world to interview inspirational female leaders, including the dynamic Jade Beall, author of 'A Beautiful Body Project and Alice Bracegirdle the powerhouse behind Bellyfit International.
I have a long list of women I am bursting to interview, there is so much 'fabulousness' out there I can’t wait to uncover and share! EMBRACE is a global movement so it is very important to tell the story from a global perspective.
We have secured enough funds to head to Canada and The U.S, budget permitting, our next stop is Germany and The U.K
These extra scenes will add great depth and perspective to the documentary - EVERY DOLLAR WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Ashton Kutcher has...Rosie O'Donnell has...Zooey Deschanel has...Amanda de Cadenet has...even Ricki Lake has!
Yep, they have all embraced...will you too?
My name is Taryn Brumfitt! 12 months ago I posted my non traditional "before and after” photo and the world’s media stood up and took notice. People everywhere were astonished – how could a woman possibly love her body 'after'?
Many applauded me for my bravery in posting the 'after' shot however, many berated me for promoting obesity. There were others who labelled me a bad role model for my children.
It got me thinking...the world has been brainwashed!
Women and girls are constantly held back and lead to believe they’re not as good as they should be. Why? Because every day we feel we’re being judged on our appearance and how far away it is from an unachievable ideal.
Lose weight, reduce wrinkles, fight cellulite; we’re constantly told to fight a battle to be someone other than who we are.
Excessive photoshopping, the sexualisation of women in the media and advertising campaigns that prey on women's insecurities – it’s no wonder there is a culture of body loathing and body shaming of epidemic proportions going on in the world.
So I decided I wanted to do something about it. I created The Body Image Movement and started spreading my message “LOVE YOUR BODY”. I soon got frustrated - 140 characters on Twitter, 4 minute TV interviews and 800 word blogs weren't enough. I needed a louder voice and a bigger platform! Whilst searching for the best way to get my message out to the world the idea of creating a documentary was born.
You'll never guess what happened next! A film maker walked into my life and we had one thing in common, we both wanted to create a documentary!
So here I am, putting everything on the line, all roads have led here, my intentions are nothing but authentic and nothing has felt so right! EMBRACE will change the lives of women by allowing them to accept themselves as they are.
Can I do this? You betcha! I'm ready for the ride; I just need your help with the bus fare.
So, please make a contribution, whether it is large or small it doesn't matter, what matters is that you have played YOUR role in creating global change. Let's do this together!
p.s Don't forget to let us know when you have contributed by sharing the hashtag #ihaveembraced on social media.
A funny, touching, heart wrenching, inspirational and life changing full length documentary film that will include:
- My story – how I went from a body hater to a body lover. I will share my journey from being devastated by my ugliness while sobbing on the bathroom floor to proudly posing nude for the whole world to see.
The documentary will explore why body loathing has become a global epidemic and what we can do to create a brighter future for women everywhere. From the sexualisation of women in the media and how marketers use every unethical trick in the book to target women’s insecurities to the hypocrisy of social media; no stone will be left unturned.
- Other stars of the documentary will be inspiring women who have overcome hardship and adversity to live a joyous existence despite substantial changes to their bodies. Rita’s story and stories like hers – how we can feel soft and luscious too!
- EMBRACE will also feature The Sydney Skinny – The World’s largest nude ocean swim which is dedicated to helping people to "drown" their body image issues by getting them to reconnect with their sense of adventure.
And… If we reach our stretch target of $300K:
I will travel around the world to interview inspirational female leaders, including the dynamic Jade Beall, author of 'A Beautiful Body Project', Alice Bracegirdle the powerhouse behind Bellyfit International and PhD sisters Lexi and Lindsay Kite from Beauty Redefined. I have a long list of women I am bursting to interview, there is so much 'fabulousness' out there I can’t wait to uncover and share!
These scenes would be a great and worthy addition to the documentary; but we need to exceed our magic $300,000 target before they’re a definite.
If you fund the project pre-production will commence in July 2014 and film through until early 2015, post production will be completed by July 2015. Come July 2015, this film will be ready to present to the world!

Hugh studied a Diploma of Screen and Media at the International Film School Sydney before making an acclaimed documentary film in East Timor called "The Hospital of Hope," which raised $40000 for a Timorese girl to have an urgent heart operation. This film is currently being used by an Australian charity called "Bairo Pite Hospital" to fundraise. Hugh's ambition over his decade long journey as a film maker has been to make feature documentary films which make a difference to everyday people. Kickstarter is a funding platform dedicated to making creative projects possible with direct support. When you back our project, you’re saying that you want this documentary to be made. We have chosen Kickstarter because it is designed to make a pledge as convenient as possible.
Here’s how it works: We set a funding goal. Our supporters make pledges. If we reach our goal, your pledge will be processed by Kickstarter, and we can start filming. If we don’t reach our goal, our supporters will not be charged for their pledge. It’s all or nothing. For example our target is $200,000, if we reach $180,000 we get nothing. We must reach the $200k target to make this documentary dream a reality. So whether your contribution is small or big, it doesn't matter, just play your part in making the world a better place.
The Body Image Movement is a crusade based on redefining and rewriting beauty ideals by harnessing and facilitating positive body image activism.
The Body Image Movement:
- Teaches women the value and power of loving their body from the inside out
- Supports health at every size
- Values real beauty from the inside out to recognise the qualities you can’t see; humility, kindness, humour, respect and generosity
- Advocates natural ageing and saying no cosmetic surgery, yet doesn’t discriminate against anybody
- Is inclusive not exclusive; while its primarily focused on women it also recognises the body image challenges faced by young men
"Thanks to the Body Image Movement I put on a pair of bathers, first time in years and went swimming with my daughter for the first time. She is 4 and a half and she was so excited because I had never done that with her before."

Special thanks to:
All the women who bravely shared their personal stories with us.
Martine Stockwell for going above and beyond.
Mum and Dad for being so supportive, caring and always being there for me.
Mathew Brumfitt for the endless hours of advice and riding this wave with me.
Oliver, Cruz and Mikaela Brumfitt for inspiring me to create change and for giving me more than I'll ever need.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is distribution – "Embrace" does not have a distributor attached yet. Film maker - Hugh Fenton and I are truly doing this all ourselves. We are confident that we will inspire interest in the right people to partner with us. If for any reason we are forced to go this alone, then that's exactly what we will do. In terms of partnering with a distributor, there will be no compromise of our integrity or values, we will choose to only work with "good" people with the right intentions, the right focus and as much positive energy as we do!
If you fund the project, we intend to start pre-production right away, shooting from July until early 2015, completing all the post production by July 2015. We don't want to rush making this documentary and we want to be able to allow ourselves time to travel and share stories from inspiring people from all over the world.
To ensure the best of service and timely delivery of your rewards (like t-shirts and posters) we will be using a professional fulfillment company. We want to keep focused on making an awesome documentary and intend on leaving the experts to do what they do!
Please note we anticipate the rewards will be fulfilled by the end of November 2014- we would rather under promise and over deliver with our delivery expectations. (excluding those rewards that are only available once the film has been made)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
