Let's Build Confidence Through Beauty
Hi I'm Ella, owner of Ella Elston Beauty. Makeup has always been my biggest passion but not having anyone to show me what to do meant that I needed to learn everything on my own. After many years of practice on myself and on my friends and family I finally felt comfortable to start freelancing when I was 18. I loved it.
Whether I was doing makeup for proms and weddings or freelancing for a brand inside Ulta I would always get the question, "Can you just come home with me? I'll never be able to recreate this!". It was always said in a joking manner but I know we've all felt that way when getting our hair, nails, or makeup done at one point or another.
My goal is to help women (or men) feel their most confident everyday. Makeup has changed my life and helped me feel more confident when I'm wearing it and when I'm not. I'm not saying everyone should feel the need to wear a full face of makeup everyday, I certainly don't, but instead should be confident walking into a room knowing they are putting their best face forward with or without makeup.
About four years ago I was working inside Ulta Beauty and this woman came in looking overwhelmed and a little scared. I walked up to her and asked if she needed help. She nodded and then proceeded to tell me that she was diagnosed with Alopecia, a disease that makes you lose all the hair on your body. She was almost in tears as she told me that her daughter was getting married the following month and she just wanted to look "normal".
After spending about two hours with her showing her how to draw on realistic looking eyebrows and taking off my false lashes so she could copy me as we put on lashes together she called her daughter on FaceTime and both of them broke down in tears.
I never saw her again but she forever changed me and helped me find my purpose in life. I knew in that moment I wanted to help people feel confident and beautiful everyday.
After my encounter with the lovely lady mentioned above I knew that I wanted to show people how to do their makeup, not just do it for them. I contemplated starting a youtube channel for a few years but that didn't seem personal enough.
After having my daughter in June of 2017 I took some time off work to stay home with her. This gave me a chance to reevaluate how I'm going to accomplish my goal of helping as many people as I can. Eventually I started doing in home makeup lessons where I would go to my clients and show them how to use the products they already own and/or products I brought with me. This was wonderful for a little while but then I started getting questions from family and friends who didn't live in the area asking if I could help them too. I went back to the drawing board and decided to start doing lessons in a webinar format. This way I can see you, you can see me, and there's no location limitations.
How lessons will work
Once signed up for your lesson you will get an email containing a confirmation of the time and date you signed up for, a link to the lesson, and a list of products being used in your lesson. You will not be required to go get the products if you don't have them and during the lesson I'd be happy to suggest alternative ways of achieving the look with the products you already own.
On the day of the lesson you will receive a reminder email with the link to your lesson.
After the lesson has finished I will email you with a list of products I used or recommended along with notes of the whole lesson so that you don't have to worry about taking notes during the lesson and can focus on getting the most out of it.
- Lessons will be in groups of 5-6 people, keeping them affordable yet personalized.
- No pressure to buy products like when you go to a beauty counter.
- Learning from the comfort of your own home.
- More personalized than YouTube. I'll be able to see you and help you pick colors or perfect techniques on the spot.
- Meeting others and joining a community of women who have similar beauty goals as you.
- Have your questions answered during the lesson.
What is needed to start lessons
I have most of what is needed to start my lessons but the money from pledges will be used to:
- Professionally build my website to schedule and host webinars
- Update camera equipment
- Update lighting
- Pay for ads on Facebook and Instagram
This campaign will start January 11th and run for 30 days ending February 10th.
Pledges are not collected until the campaign ends and the goal is met; therefore I will not receive anything until roughly the end of February.
I will then need about 2 weeks for my website to be completed. After that I will send out emails to all pledges notifying you to schedule your lesson along with a coupon code to apply on the payment screen.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk I face is my website not working properly. To ensure that's not going to be an issue, I am currently interviewing several experienced web developers to make certain that my website is built with professionalism, security and promptness.
I will do my absolute best to keep all my backers up to date if anything is delayed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
