UPDATE! Funding Goal Achieved! Next: Custom Dice for Backers
Well, we’ve got a little time left before we’re funded, and everyone on the team is absolutely amazed by the outpouring of interest and support for THEY BECAME FLESH. We’ve got our noses to the grindstone and we’re working hard to make this a success.
You've made THE KEYS OF HELL AND DEATH possible, and now we've got a new goal to push for: if we hit $6,000, we’ll be able to offer custom THEY BECAME FLESH dice to our backers! We’ll send Archangel backers 2 dice, and any backers pledged at $25 or above will receive the set of 15 dice along with all their previously-planned pledge rewards. If we reach our goal, the dice should be available around Valentine’s Day.
UPDATE! Funding goal achieved! Next: THE KEYS OF HELL AND DEATH
So here's the deal, guys: if we hit $3,000, the game will include a special supplement called THE KEYS OF HELL AND DEATH. It will take the mechanics from the main game and twist them, so your characters from THEY BECAME FLESH can soldier up for the final war in Heaven. Will you fight for God or for Lucifer— or will you risk almost certain death to fight for the cause no one expected, Humanity?
THE KEYS OF HELL AND DEATH will be available to everyone pledging $5 or above.
What's all this, then?
THEY BECAME FLESH is a tabletop role-playing game about fallen angels, right after the Fall. It is a game with two Game Masters, who control God and Humanity while players take on the roles of the Fallen— angels who loved humankind best and were punished by God for defending Adam and Eve. The Fallen are pushed and manipulated by God and Humanity, and every action leads them to one of three options: forsaking humanity and the Fallen to become Angels, forsaking God to become human, or forsaking both in the name of brotherhood.
It was a runner-up in the 2010 Ronnies— a 24-hour game design competition— and has been in development since. Here are some nice things people said about it during the competition:
"The virtues of the design are pure and forceful, and so coherent in terms of Creative Agenda, with a deft touch."
"My first thought when reading your design doc was: "This is the game that I wanted Demon: The Fallen to be." Every bit of fantasy in this game underscores real personal and social concerns about religion and responsibility without ever offering easy escape routes."
The funding raised by this Kickstarter will go towards the initial print run, as well as editing and art costs (so it's not all public domain woodcarvings).
Backers don't just get the final PDF of the game— if you donate $5 or more, you'll get access to the most recent version of the PDF throughout the publication process, so you can give us feedback, get a jump-start on playing the game and make sure your name is spelled correctly in the credits.
For the T-shirt and hoodie, you'll be able to choose between one of two graphics— and show your allegiance to either Heaven or your Fallen brothers. Here's a sneak peek at the designs in progress:
Last but not least, thanks to Tom Hall for being the voice of God in the video!
