The Slock uses a Force Sensitive Resistor to detect up to 40 pounds of weight evenly across it's surface, so it won't stop vibrating until you walk around! This is the cure to snoozing.
57 percent of Americans are snoozers, according to a sleep study by health innovation company Withings, with results showing that we spend a total of three and a half months of our lives hitting the snooze button. Source
When you let yourself snooze, your body thinks, “False alarm! I guess I didn’t need to do anything, because we’re not getting up after all,” and settles in. When that loud alarm clock goes off a second time, Rafael Pelayo, MD, a sleep specialist at the Stanford University Sleep Medicine Center, says that your body and brain are taken by surprise, resulting in that groggy, fuzzy-headed feeling called sleep inertia. This type of sleep inertia can persist for up to two to four hours, research has found. Source
The Slock's Vibration Motors are far quieter than a traditional alarm clock, allowing you to wake up before your significant other without disturbing them! Wake up early and make them breakfast, or get to work and let him/her sleep in!
This a demo of a beta version of the app. We have a few exciting features we will be adding before the Slock is shipped. We are going to add a timer mode so that you can easily nap with the Slock, and we are going to add controls which let you set the vibration level!
We are going to build an Android app after a successful funding campaign.
We currently have the color choices of Black, Pink, and Blue, but we are going to add more with Stretch Goals later on in the Kickstarter campaign.
The Slock fits US Shoe Size 6-12, Euro 36-43, and UK 4-10 comfortably.
Risks and challenges
Hardware development is risky and there are always challenges in delivering a product. We have to finish designing and prototyping the PCB and work on prototyping with Plastic Injection Molding for the shell, which is currently 3D printed.
Anne-Christine Pajunen has years of experience in clothes manufacturing, so we feel very comfortable with the sock's being made to quality.
Eliot Winchell has years of programming experience and most of the hard work has been completed (iOS App, hardware programming)
We've allowed space in the timeline for any unforeseen challenges/delays and are quite confident with our expected delivery date.
