My name is Elijah Haswell and I'm a queer transgender artist dedicated to accessible non-fiction storytelling, andPeople of Pride is my passion project over 2 years in the making. This campaign is to fund the publication and distribution of a 8.5x11" hardcover, 125-page, full-color illustrated book highlighting 50 LGBTQ Americans who changed the course of history including Hastiin Klah, Vito Russo, Dr. Pauli Murray, Brenda Howard, and many more.
I began Volume I of a free, virtually published series highlighting People of Pride during Pride month (June) 2018, and created Volume II in June 2019. During this time I created singular comics-style images every day to convey as much information about the individual as possible, and the response I received was far greater than I ever could've imagined. Parents, educators, and everyday Americans began regularly asking for the publication of a tangible People of Pride book for themselves and their children, and this Kickstarter campaign was born to facilitate its publication.
Backing this campaign at several levels grants you access to the Kickstarter-exclusive coloring book PDF featuring 10 of the most popular People of Pride.
People of Pride features 50 updated, redrawn illustrations of historic LGBTQ Americans drawn by Elijah Haswell.
Each person's life is chronicled in a one-page, easily digestible story.

Risks and challenges
The book itself will be 100% complete by the week of July 1st, approximately two weeks before this campaign ends. The majority of the book is already complete, but as this project is an extension of my "drawing a day" for Pride month, some illustrations will not be finished until the end of June.
People of Pride is created by one person, which offers both pros and cons. I am the sole person writing, drawing, and formatting these stories for publishing, which creates a cohesive book but requires significantly more effort. I personally guarantee the completion of the remaining portion of this book at least a week prior to the end of this campaign.
I have chosen to print People of Pride via the publishing company Mixam. I've printed smaller projects through this company before without any issues, and their printing costs and company values have encouraged my decision to print with them again. Mixam is an environmentally conscious US-based company that prints on recycled materials using vegetable ink. There is always the potential to run into difficulties with the publishing process, but I will do everything in my power to assure this campaign runs smoothly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
