About this project
The amazing Tjarnarbíó creative center in Reykjavic, Iceland has invited me to perform ALIEN CITIZEN: An Earth Odyssey on their stage in August! I've always wanted to take the show around the world. This is the first invitation the show has received from a professional venue outside the USA and it would be a dream come true to go!
HOW FUNDS WILL BE USED
Roundtrip flight to Reykjavik
Lodging (one week)
Buses and taxis
Stage manager's fee
Laptop (refurbished, used) for program with visual & audio cues because the keyboard on my old MacBook Pro is dying a painful death

ABOUT THE SHOW
Who are you when you’re from everywhere and nowhere? ALIEN CITIZEN: An Earth Odyssey is a funny and poignant one-woman show about growing up as a dual citizen of mixed heritage in Central America, North Africa, the Middle East, and New England.
I've had the honor and privilege to perform it at Princeton, M.I.T., Wesleyan, the FIGT conference, international schools and the US Embassy in Panama, Off Off Broadway, and in Hollywood (world premiere). It would be fantastic to kickstart a global theatre tour at a respected venue in Iceland!

How Kickstarter works: People pledge any amount and choose a reward. At the end of my 28-day Kickstarter campaign, if the combined total of all pledges meets the $5,000 goal, then the pledgers' credit cards are charged and I receive the funds to take the show to Iceland (with a better laptop). If I don't meet my goal, then the money is not withdrawn from your account and no rewards are provided. If the $5,000 goal is exceeded then the extra funds will be used to take the show to theatres, conferences, & festivals that can't fund travel expenses, etc. Aside from a 5% Kickstarter fee and a 3-5% Amazon credit card processing fee, all funds raised will be used directly to take the show to Iceland (and beyond if more is raised) with a better laptop.
Risks and challenges
A potential challenge for this project will be promoting it from afar. I can't go to Iceland in advance to plug the show. The theatre does a fantastic job of promoting its events, but no one will have heard of the show or me, so we won't be able to count on friends and family filling any seats. I'm going to tackle this by plugging the heck out of it in social media (as usual), finding Meetup Groups in Reykjavik that might be interested in the show, and contacting the international school to invite parents, teachers, and staff to the show (the school is K-7 and the show isn't suited to kids of that age--but it's perfect for the adults and teenagers who care for them).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
