About this project
We really want to thank everyone for your enthusiastic support! We are still going to have electroVines available for sale in the not-too-distant future. Please fill out our contact form at http://www.electrovine.com/updates to be alerted about news, updates, and when they will be available.
As Seen On:
Given all of the advancements in technology over the last century, it is surprising that the extension cord, an essential everyday tool, has not evolved into a more aesthetically pleasing device.
Traditional extension cords are the product of cold industrial design, which had no regard for creating an item that fits naturally into our homes and living/working environments. Typical cords are ugly visual noise that make personal and professional environments feel like they are full of trip wire traps, unnatural snakes, and hideous electrical spider webs. They ruin the well-planned look of your wedding reception or cocktail party ... they create an eyesore when powering patio lights or fans ... and they stand out as obvious, unattractive cables throughout every other area where they are in use.
With your support, we can provide a better option.
An electroVine is an extension cord designed to resemble a plant, specifically an ivy vine. It is a green extension cord that has repositionable ivy leaf clusters sprouting along its length that make it look like a tranquil vine instead of a typical unsightly extension cord.
Features and Specifications:
- 6 feet (1.8 meter) long
- Indoor/outdoor rated
- 3-prong grounded plug

Idea Generation and Development:
At home, we started to hide extension cords and cables with decorative garlands from the craft store.
These two types of products were not designed to function together in this way. Still, we loved the way it looked. Friends and family commented on liking it as well. It felt more relaxing, clean, and organized. It then dawned on us that we could create a versatile product that was both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Eureka! The electroVine concept was born.
We began the design process by making a very rough prototype to see if our idea was feasible.
Once we were satisfied that we wanted to invent our first product and bring it to market, we wholeheartedly jumped into the adventure together. We drew from our own experiences, conducted intensive research, scoured patent databases, worked with a patent attorney, and visited factories and retailers to explore the cord making process, capabilities, and costs. We decided that our first product would be a 6 foot cord since electrical outlets are usually set at a standard distance of 12 feet apart. A 6 foot cord should allow most appliances to reach a nearby outlet.
To have a product that was flexible and functional for the consumer and also designed for manufacturability, we CAD modeled our new component, which we call the clamp, and had 3D prototypes printed to test their viability. The clamp design allows the leaves to be repositioned along the length of the cord as well as rotated on the stem so that the consumer can arrange the vine however they please.
We were very lucky to get connected with someone who helped us develop a relationship with a seasoned and reputable manufacturer. They were able to provide realistic artificial ivy leaves to adorn our clamps and extension cord. We generated lots of back and forth samples until we got the fit, function, textures, shapes, and colors just right. Special thanks to Clara and the team for diligently working with us to make sure everything was perfect.
It is important to us that we provide an effective, great looking product that is in compliance with well-known Safety standards. We are very happy to say that electroVine meets UL's safety requirements and carries the UL Listing Mark for the United States and Canada.
Our US patent (#8,129,620) was approved while we were working with a local packaging design firm to create our logo and package. We are grateful for their creative talents and expertise.
Manufacturing and Distribution:
Nearly everything is now in place to start manufacturing. While we're close to entering production, your enthusiastic support will help us reach the minimum quantity necessary for our first order with the factory. Manufacturing and assembly of the first order is estimated to take approximately 3 months followed by an additional few weeks for shipping. Once we receive our first order from the factory, we will ship them to all of our backers via the USPS.
Thanks for taking the time to read about our adventure. It has been an amazing and fun experience working together to bring a new product to life from a simple idea. We hope you decide to join us in our journey to harvest the world’s first crop of electroVines and introduce our electrifying flora to yours and to other modern ecosystems across the United States and Canada.
We are completely focused on Kickstarter at the moment. Nonetheless, we hope that support and demand grow in a way that allows us to provide variations to expand the electroVine product line.
Note that all images of electroVines are prototype and pre-production samples. Variation of the product is normal. Product images may differ from the actual final product.

Risks and challenges
We've put in a lot of collaborative time and effort with our suppliers to make sure that our finished product is delivered on time with the utmost Quality. We are very pleased that everything seems to be on the right track, but we are well aware that unforeseen surprises beyond our control are possible. We are committed to being transparent and open with our backers as the campaign and fulfillment process move along.
We are confident that we can navigate any challenges since we have already successfully tackled the product development process in preparation for bringing it to market. Some highlights of this process include designing and CAD modeling the product ourselves, being granted a patent, obtaining UL certification, finding a manufacturing partner to work with, completing the fabrication of production tooling, etc. Moreover, since our manufacturing partner has a proven track record of over 40 years of experience and they have been fantastic to work with so far, we have high confidence that they are experts in resolving any production difficulties.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
