I just really love tea. Some of my favorite memories are shared around a pot of cha. Being from the south, I just love how tea brings people together. Whether in good times or in tumultuous ones, tea can warm the soul.
I have spent much time traveling to tea houses round the world and I am fascinated by tea, it's influence on history, different tea culture and traditions, and the science behind making the perfect cup.
Steeped in Kindness: I am obsessed with bringing a tea shop to my town. Our moto is "steeped in kindness". This tea shop is going to have a major impact on our community a couple of ways. First, we plan to support and inform the community about local charities while they sip and snack in our tea shop. We plan to have 2 charities every quarter and people can choose, at checkout, which charity they would like a portion of their purchase to go to. At the end of the quarter, those charities get the money! We hope that those charities spotlighted that quarter will cross-market with us to promote their charity and our shop. If the charity promotes within the store, they get a higher percentage of donation at the end of the quarter. Everybody wins! Second, we would like to showcase the many cultures that make up Herndon, VA. We plan to sell foods and tea from local shops in Herndon that make foods from all around the world. Our blended tea is masterfully blended by a local tea manufacturer, Green Alchemy Herb and Mercantile, about 45 min away from our store. We will also have a variety of non-blended premium teas from all over the world. We will have pastries and snacks from Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and South America. Tea is universal and I want to showcase the culinary aspect of tea from around the world. We plan on offering something new every month. If I can help others in my community and feed and fuel my passion for tea, I have achieved my goal with this company.
I am a hard worker and when I am passionate about doing something. I do it and I do it well. I currently own a business making custom foot orthotics. I have been in my trade for 10 years and my business for 9 years. I enjoy doing what I do; helping people walk pain free. This business will continue while I start Elden Street Tea Shop. In the words of Richard Branson (an avid tea drinker, knight, and multi-business owner), " Screw it, lets do it."
We found the perfect spot! Elden Street Tea Shop would be a welcoming edition to Town of Herndon. Facing the Washington Old Dominion Trail (WOD), makes out locations very walkable and would be a family-friendly addition to the Herndon. I am thrilled to be able to live my dream as well as give back to my community.
But I can't do it without you!
Funds raised from this project will go toward the following:
• Fixtures and Furnishings
• Creating an account for employees for paid time off and subsidizing health insurance. Everyone deserves to be happy and healthy working at the tea shop!
Life is like a cup of tea, it's all in how you make it!
Risks and challenges
As our proposed space is currently under construction, our actual opening date may fluctuate within the boundaries of Summer 2018. We have been working a pop up shop since December to raise money for our shop. We are open every Saturday and have had much success seeing our profits increase since December.
We opened our online store so people can try our teas before we open. We hope this allows customers to become familiar with our products and build a loyal fan base. We have also implemented the 2 charities to give to before our store opens.
I have done extensive research on the demographics of the area, and plan to tailor our offerings and hours of operation to target our audience.
I continue to immerse myself in industry trends and local markets, as to stay ahead of the curve and always provide our customers with the best possible product and experience.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
