I have finally put my entire brain in the form of a book.
...and not a minute too soon because I am beginning to see others with similar ideas, although mine has a secret ingredient and is a broad and comprehensive view.
There is ever-growing philosophical interest in chaos theory since it shows how to recognize a natural order in many diverse areas of our increasingly chaotic world.
When I first learned the basics of chaos theory and fractals it opened up a window to an understanding of the world and humanity that I wish everyone could see. The 12 chapters offer a new and refreshing way to view many different areas of life, society, and even the Cosmos itself, through the lens of chaos theory.
Each chapter also starkly contrasts this view with our normal everyday linear thought processes, showing where many of humanity's problems and misunderstandings stem from on a very fundamental level.
All of this is interwoven through fun topics such as outer space, brains, consciousness, "happiness", longevity, and even the topic of curiosity itself. I believe there is something in this book for all walks of life. It is a holistic philosophy; a way in which we can grasp a chaotic world.
I hope to brush the dust off of some long-ignored philosophical questions, and spark your curiosity!
I have lined up an amazing team to help every step of the way, including the company "Chaos Control" in NYC to take care of graphics, illustrations, and online programming, and a great editor (my brother, David!). I hope to do a lot of traveling this coming Summer and speaking on the various topics of the book. And with extended funding we will create a video series, Carl Sagan style!
I will appreciate your contribution very, very much, and do hope you enjoy the many rewards offered.
DR. BELBRUNO TO WRITE THE FORWARD
I am very happy and honored to announce that Dr. Edward Belbruno will write the forward. We have many profound things in common, such as our love for outer space and chaos theory, and we are both artists and authors. The difference between us is that he is very well established and renowned in all four of these areas.
Ed has a brand new full length documentary film all about him, which is an official selection of the 2015 Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema! http://www.paintingthewaytothemoon.com
If you are not familiar with Dr. Belbruno, here are some websites:

Dr. Belbruno the author: http://press.princeton.edu/titles/8375.html
(Neil deGrasse Tyson wrote the forward to one of Ed’s books. That means I am only one degree away from having a forward by Neil deGrasse Tyson!)
And now a word from Ed:
"I am excited about writing the Foreword for Elaine's book. She brings her unique background as an innovative musical artist, and love of space, to the field of chaos which I can relate to, where I relate to space chaos through the art of painting. Elaine's book touches on many cool topics that are not normally considered, in a totally unique way with her engaging style." Ed
WHY DID I WRITE THIS BOOK?
Like many people I have sensed something very strange and ironic about how humanity is progressing, and am often confused by the completely different attitudes people have about it. On the other hand, I have learned to see a consistency about the world through the lens of chaos and fractals (which I initially studied for musical purposes, of all things).
Applying what I have come to understand about chaos theory to various areas of life and humanity gave interesting results, especially once I gained further insight from a lecture at NYU by Benoit Mandelbrot himself - that abstract thought makes us very awkward beings.
Lightbulbs were going off in my brain as I viewed the world through these two very different lenses, and I needed to get it onto paper. I wanted to get this information to you, dear reader, so that you too can understand why so many things about the world and humanity just flat out don't make sense, and so that you too can imagine a path for humanity that most people don't have a way to see.
Our increasingly secular population is in need of a fresh and consistent outlook; one that is ripe with meaning, one where the scientific method only its purest form is respected, and one where the virtues of freedom and compassion are clearly understood and appreciated.
It will surely come as a surprise to many that chaos theory is the recipe for all of this! Nature itself is a prime example, cooked to perfection.
Once a person grasps the basics of Chaos theory it inevitably opens the floodgates of deep thought about so many areas of life and society because it explains how a complex but recognizable order can evolve naturally, on its own.
The problem is that most people don’t know much about Chaos theory beyond references to the butterfly effect.
So a chapter on Chaos theory is written for the beginner, in the way that I wish the topic was presented to me - in one fell swoop. Aspects of chaos theory are then woven throughout the rest of the chapters.
There is also another side to the coin that explains so much of the frustrating inconsistencies of humanity, and why we stand out so starkly from the rest of nature. This side of the coin is our linear abstract thinking. It is deeply ironic that our abstract thinking clearly makes us the most powerful and curious beings that we know of, yet may actually be the root cause of most of the problems that face humanity. This aspect is also interwoven through the chapters.
Once a person grasps how completely different our abstract thought plays out, than the forces of nature, it is easy to see why our societies seem to need constant tending to.
Learning to view the world from both sides of the coin simultaneously helps us to not only make sense out of our increasingly chaotic world but also to be more in tune with our personal lives.
THIS IS MORE THAN A BOOK
In addition to laying out my views, I present some open questions in the book, and every chapter offers plenty of room for discussion. So I will create several avenues to connect with the public and develop a community to further discuss and develop the ideas:
• We will create a community forum on a new website for the book. (http://mynewphilosophy.com - coming soon!)
• We will develop powerpoint presentations and packages so that others can easily present parts of it to their local social groups and public venues.
• I will personally travel to give public talks and host discussion groups.
• I will be consistently active on my personal blog and my YouTube channel
• With extended funding, we will create a Carl Sagan style video series!
• $500 Mail letters and 3 chapters to 50 publishers. I will give it a shot. If there are no viable options in two months I will self publish.
• $1000 Editing of the book by my oldest brother, David Walker.
• $3000 Initial design of the book website by Bob Gourley of Chaos Control. http://www.chaoscontrol.com/about/ The fact that the name is appropriate is a coincidence. Bob helped to launch my band ZIA back in the early 1990s with multimedia presentations, a website, an online forum, graphics, write-ups, and more; even before there was a world wide web (“The Net”, we called it back then). He has always been on the cutting edge of technology. I am more than thrilled to reconnect on a new project together.
• $2000 Creative director - brand development, oversee consistency of cover art, illustrations, website graphics, and design marketing material. This is also being taken care of "in house" with someone at Chaos Control.
• $1000 Illustrator, graphic artist, and sorting out copyrights for other pictures.
• $250 Powerful Slideshows and packages for presentations.
* $1250 Toward promotional costs, such as printing and distributing flyers and brochures.
* $10,000 will be kept in a fund to cover printing costs for an initial small run. If a publisher makes a viable offer, and this money is not needed, it will go towards extended funding projects, such as a video series.
• Extended funding - video team to make a video series on various topics of the book (Carl Sagan style?).
Elaine Walker was raised by two loving mathematics professors, and has a deep appreciation for math, but was born a musician. She received her Masters Degree in Music Technology from New York University in 2001. Her thesis was on using chaos mathematics to compose and perform music. She built a hardware MIDI device to play "chaos melodies", allowing the performer control over the mathematics, tempo, and dynamics. For several years that followed, she was one of two music editors for the cartoon, Pokemon. Since 1991 she has composed and performed music for her electronic music band, ZIA. She builds custom MIDI keyboards and has taught audio and MIDI technology at the college level since 2007. Since the mid 1990s, Elaine has volunteered for the pro-space community (now known as “new space”), promoting the idea of humans living in space. For five Summers, Elaine traveled to the Canadian High Arctic as the Education and Public Outreach Coordinator for the Haughton-Mars Project.

And thanks to those of you who have contributed thus far! You rock!
Risks and challenges
I recognize that promoting a book is not an easy undertaking. There are many different avenues to do so and each will present us with challenges. But writing CCC was probably the most challenging part of all of this, and that part is done! There will surely be challenges with editing, since this is a long book (12 chapters, 10K words each), but my editor is very fast, concise, and brutally honest.
I am prepared to handle challenges every step of the way. as a mother and educator I am not phased by the little things, shake off and learn from the big things, and live for even bigger challenges.
With the team we have assembled I am confident that the risk will be minimal. The team will oversee different parts of this project, such as a Creative Director to oversee the continuity of the graphics and illustrations for the book, brochures, and advertising. We have a very accomplished Web Designer lined up as well. All of this will be run by the company, Chaos Control, whom I have a decade of experience working with.
Chaos Control is located in New York City. Their name is appropriate, but that is a coincidence! I worked with Chaos Control throughout the 1990s and early 2000s and I know they are always ahead of the curve with technology and new media trends. They created two different multimedia presentations for my band, ZIA, in the early 1990s before such a thing was common. They set up with an email forum before the world wide web existed, and then one of the earliest band websites. They did graphical work for CD covers, posters, and other media, and acted as our publicist as well. I would not trade this team for anyone! http://www.chaoscontrol.com/about/
I will keep you informed of the progress every step of the way!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
