RPGWithMe is a next-generation web platform for tabletop RPGs which provides an end to end technology solution for your games including beautiful, interactive character sheets, campaign management, play-by-post and a virtual tabletop...all fully integrated and accessible from a web browser. RPGWithMe was designed with touch in mind from the beginning, so it not only works on your desktop or laptop computer, but also on iPad, Android and the forthcoming Windows 8 tablet. You can learn more on our site or by checking out additional videos on YouTube. If you are attending GenCon, please visit us at booth #1850.
Of the dozens of tabletop RPG game systems in existence, we only support three: D&D 4e, Pathfinder and Savage Worlds. Furthermore, to create a character for these game systems, you must have an external tool such as the DDI Character Builder or Hero Lab. While these tools are great for those who already own them, we want to provide a free solution for everyone.
If this Kickstarter is fully funded, we will create a character creation tool that is game system agnostic. We'll enable dozens of game systems with custom character creation. This has never been done before.
The character creation tool along with the character sheets it creates will be totally free. This means that virtually any tabletop RPG gamer who wants an interactive character sheet for their tablet...will have one. For many game systems, this will be the first dedicated technology they have ever had.
As a backer you'll help to bring beautiful, interactive character sheets to tens of thousands of tabletop gamers. But, depending on your backer level, you can get some extra goodies.
Level 2 and Up
Everyone who backs at Level 2 or above will get a special badge on their RPGWithMe profile, eternally showing to the world their generosity and support of our project. They'll also get beta access to the character creation tool which they can use to provide early feedback to us, helping us create the best tool possible. Because we won't be able to support every game system in the world immediately, backers at this level will be eligible to participate in a special survey that helps us prioritize game system support. This is necessary in the event that our core system needs to be extended in any way to support particular systems. The results of this survey help us to prioritize which enhancements happen first, second, etc.
If you back at Level 3 or above, we'll send you one of our awesome t-shirts! Here's a picture of the shirt design and the the first couple of shirts right after they came off the printing press:
The shirt was designed by a fantastic designer and good friend of mine, Blake Kandzer. They are high quality 100% cotton, Hanes Tagless and were produced by T-Formation, one of the world's finest custom shirt printers.
Backing at Level 4 or above? You are in for a real treat. We previously commissioned renowned artist Ben Wootten to create original fantasy art for RPGWithMe. Ben formerly worked for Weta Workshop on some projects you may have heard of: LOTR, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and King Kong. If you back at Level 4 or above, we'll send you a 33x10 inch full color poster print of the artwork on 80# silk cover. Here's a small preview for you:
Levels 5 and up include subscriptions to our paid services of varying length. On RPGWithMe, with a paid subscription, you can create your own Campaign, write wiki articles, run play-by-post games, leverage our virtual tabletop and access our huge subscriber art gallery. All of this fully integrates along with our free character sheet technology. It's a gaming solution like you've never seen before.
You'll notice that each of our subscription options also have a "+" option. If you back at one of these levels, we'll commission a custom avatar painting for you. One of our artists: Raymond Gaustadnes or Ben Wootten will take your specifications and custom paint a 100px by 100px avatar for you usable on RPGWithMe or on any site of your choosing!
If you back, what will your funding go to? Building a character creation tool that enables you to create characters for dozens of game systems. For the first time tabletop RPG gamers will have a means to play their characters from a tablet, laptop of desktop regardless of what game system they prefer. That involves new design work, programming and extensive cross-platform testing which takes money. But, if this project is backed, you'll have it in your hands by December.
Hello! My name is Rob Eisenberg and I'm the president and Lead Architect at Blue Spire. I got my start programming when I was nine years old on my family's Commodore 64 computer and have been loving it ever since. In the early 2000s I turned my hobby of programming into a career. Since then I've had the privileged of building software for everything from mom and pop shops to multi-billion dollar organizations...household names. I've done extensive development of both Windows and Web applications and worked on software for almost every type of industry. I've contributed to open source by authoring frameworks, such as Caliburn.Micro, that have been used by thousands of developers to create applications. In fact, if you are using any Windows device, you are probably running software built with my framework. I'm also a contributor to a number of other open source projects and I've even open sourced the core application framework used to build RPGWithMe's virtual tabletop on github. I have a pretty popular technical blog on http://devlicio.us/ and I've spoken at several major conventions including Monospace and Mix. If that's not enough to convince you that I can build this...just take a look around RPGWithMe itself.
At it's core, RPGWithMe has a system agnostic character sheet model. We also have a series of visual "widgets" that can display the information from the character model and allow interaction with it. We keep a strict separation between the data that represents your character and the mechanism we use to display and enable interaction with it. Our plan for the custom character creation feature funded by this Kickstarter involves several components:
1. Create a tool that allows gamers to quickly and easily configure widgets on their character sheet to display the data they want for the game they are playing.
2. Extend our library of widgets to include concepts not present in our existing character sheets. For example, we'd like to add Stress Tracks for FATE games, so they don't have to fudge it with an HP meter.
3. Extend our core roll expression evaluation to handle more types of rolls that appear in other game systems.
If you've read this far....Thank you! I hope you see the value of this project to the entire tabletop RPG community and join us in this effort by becoming a backer.
