Dead by Wednesday #1 is the first comic in what we hope will be a series of books that follow the adventures of bounty hunter Wednesday Daring.
Wednesday's story, which is for mature readers, is set in the future when humankind has long since left the confines of Earth and branched out into the galaxy. Aliens are an everyday part of life, and humanity has found its place among them.
Wednesday Daring is a bounty hunter. She's young, she's fearless and she's damn good at what she does for a living -- although not always the most motivated. Our protagonist is a firm believer in the idea that the rigors of life should not stand in the way of a good time.
She is smart. She is sarcastic. She is beautiful. She is bold. Quite frankly, she's an absolute joy to write.
The comic we are asking you to Kickstart is a 24-page first issue that is the first part of a two-part story arc. We are asking for enough money to cover the pencils, inks, colors, letters, printing and shipping of the book, as well as the creation and shipping of the rewards we have offered.
We would love to be able to fund this first installment of Dead by Wednesday, and, hopefully, be able to roll right into another issue soon after so we can start telling all the fun adventures we have planned for Wednesday Daring and the characters in her life.
I'm not a huge fan of stretch rewards, but I know backers are, so I've come up with a few just in case we are able to get to that point in the process.$6,000 -- Everyone will receive a digital copy of "Last Breath," a one-shot comic written by Sam Eggleston with pencils by Jason Baroody, inks by Josh Oakes and colors and letters by John Hunt and edited by Kim Eggleston.
The creative team
We are pretty proud of the creative team we have assembled for this particular comic.
Sam Eggleston and Kim Eggleston, who hail from Michigan's Upper Peninsula, are sharing writing duties. Sam has written published comics such as Last Breath, Combat Jacks (with Mark McKenna), Cazadora (coming soon from Action Lab) and contributed to the BOOnana Tail Halloween Special (with Mark McKenna). He has several other projects he is currently working on as well.
This book marks Kim's first step into writing comics, though she has been a professional writer for the past seven years. She has previously edited Last Breath and Cazadora and probably anything else you've seen Sam write.
Jay De Foy is a Michigan-based artist who has been working his way into comics for years. He has his own self-published title, Threadcount, which he successfully Kickstarted, and recently did some work for Zenescope, set to be published soon.
Josh Oakes is an inker from Georgia who has worked with Sam Eggleston in the past. He inked Last Breath, and has gone on to work on several other projects, including Mark McKenna's BOOnana Tail Halloween Special.
John Hunt and Sam Eggleston have worked on several projects together, including Combat Jacks, Last Breath and Cazadora. Hunt has worked on various published properties as a colorist and letterer, like Naruto, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Grimm Fairy Tales. He will handle both colors and letters on Dead by Wednesday.
Here are a few examples of finished pages, with pencils by De Foy, inks by Oakes and colors and letters by Hunt.
We've decided to keep things fairly simple this time around. Rewards will focus on commissions by Jason Baroody, Brian Lopez-Santos and Jay De Foy. These commissions can be busts or full figure and can be 9x12 or 11x17 or done on various blank comic covers. A list of comic covers will be made available at the end of the Kickstarter and will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. The first backer to choose that reward will get the first choice, the second backer gets the second choice, etc.
Baroody has worked with Sam Eggleston on several projects, including Last Breath and Combat Jacks. He is a founding member of Ten Ton Studios. You can see examples of his art here.
Lopez-Santos is a California-based artist who is up and coming in the pin-up world. He has offered up rewards on all of Sam Eggleston's Kickstarter campaigns so far. Check out his website.
De Foy is the pencil artist for Dead by Wednesday and more of his work can be seen via this link.

Risks and challenges
This is my third Kickstarter now, and I can safely say that there are indeed risks and challenges you never expect when making a comic. We have had a death in the family before, there have been delays in shipping from the printer, we've had to redo entire finished pages... heck, we even had one project get delayed because of how successful it was!
So, yes, there are risks and challenges. For comics, it's usually getting the pages all put together that causes the biggest challenge.
But you can take a look at my last two Kickstarters and see that I am upfront and very blunt about what is causing delays. I believe this time around, with the team I have together, we won't be delayed past our July 2015 expected release date. Honestly, I hope to be well ahead of that date. But, if we aren't, I'll be the first to tell you and to keep you updated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
