Frequently Asked Questions
What are the main differences between the Aware custom fit headphone ($99) and the Aware hearable ($249)?
The Aware custom headphone ($99) offers a custom fit, microphone, and wireless connectivity, however does not include the biometric sensing, situational awareness, or mobile app integration/support available in the Aware hearable.Last updated:
The battery life of the Aware hearable will vary depending on the number of features used simultaneously and the duration of use. We know battery life is an important factor for anyone using this device and we are continuing to research improvements while maintaining a minimalistic form factor and not sacrificing comfort or aesthetics.
Below are current estimates for some common modes of operation.
• Sleep (logging of sensor data, no music, no live data transfer): 10 – 12 hours
• Listening to music only (no live updating of sensor data): 5 – 6 hours
• Listening to music + live update of biometrics: 2 – 3 hours
* Note that if the Aware is low on battery power you may use the provided cable to continue listening to music.Last updated:

What mobile platforms will the Aware hearable be compatible with and what type of functionality should we expect to be included in the SDK package?
The Aware hearable will have apps initially developed for iOS and Android. If used purely as a headphone it will work with any device with standard connections for audio output.
The SDK will be available for iOS, Android, and PC (.NET) for accessing raw and pre-processed data from sensors / mics, outputting to speakers, and accessing high level metrics for focus, stress, and relaxation. Requests for exposing specific features or additional functionality is always welcome, however ensuring that we focus on delivering a product, on-time, that exceeds expectations is our number one goal.Last updated:
The Aware is based on technology that was originally developed to provide passive hearing protection to the United States Navy. Passive hearing protection is more effective than active noise cancellation at blocking a wide range of frequencies when a complete seal with the ear canal is achieved. Since our products are based on a high accuracy 3D scan of the ear, we ensure a consistent and complete seal with the ear providing superior passive noise cancellation. In addition, all of the hardware and sensors necessary to make an active noise cancellation solution are available enabling future development (data is accessible via our SDK).Last updated:
The Aware will feature a single wide band vented balanced armature driver with an impedance of around 50 ohms at 1 kHz and sensitivity to 1 mW of 112 dB (any change to this before production will be to further improve sound quality). The armature naturally has a clean balanced sound (including plenty of SPL with low distortion - down to 20 Hz) that we are further tuning with digital signal processing (DSP).
What does this all mean? The Aware will have excellent sound quality as compared to other in-ear headphones in its price range.Last updated:
The design intent for the Aware product is for water, dust, and sweat resistance for most everyday activities. Since the device is not currently certified for appropriate water proof depths, you should not use it for water sports like diving, swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, waterskiing etc. We may consider these as stretch goals and our contract manufacturer already produces other popular water proof rated products.Last updated:
You will be able to see your ear scanned live and we will be able to provide you with an image of your ear upon request. Your encrypted eFit scan files will be stored in order to accommodate any future product purchases.Last updated:
The expected retail price, as sold directly from United Sciences, will be $349 USD.Last updated:
