About this project
In order to be successful in the age of information, automation and environmental destruction, students need to be creative and to passionately explore topics they enjoy, while learning about sustainability and the fragility of the planet.
After working on the Global Learning XPRIZE, it has become my mission to develop and distribute affordable technology around the world. Education These Days will use money raised through sales in developed countries, in order to distribute educational software to developing countries. I think this will be the most effective way of ensuring a positive future for humanity.
During my studies, I completed extensive Pedagogy research which has shaped every facet of this game. I then learned how to use Unity (game development software), by following YouTube tutorials, in order to see my vision come to life. I have since made many contacts who would like to be involved when funding is available.
$100,000 - We will develop Rocket Island for Samsung VR and Oculus, and release it in French, Spanish, Māori, and also Mandarin, Hindi and Swahili if possible.
$170,000 - We will make a sequel that is set in space and will teach more advanced principles in an interesting and relevant way that almost anyone will be able to understand. This will include basic calculus, algorithms, physics, and more advanced English. Following that a prequel may be developed focusing on developing literacy and numeracy skills from scratch.
A long-term goal if resources permit would be to develop future games into smart apps that can analyse players learning preferences and possibly act as a diagnostic/treatment tool for users with certain learning difficulties.
Video Games get a lot of bad press for largely unjustified reasons. Let’s give video games a good reputation!
Risks and challenges
The real risk for our project is if we don't reach the funding target. If we do, we are confident we can deliver the basics structure of Rocket Island that was outlined in the campaign video, by Early 2018 at the latest. This will still be the best educational video we have come across. If we raise $50,000, Rocket Island will become a great game, by any standard (hopefully).
If we are to release Rocket Island on Steam and not just a digital download for PC, this will require an approval process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
