With the Shiroi Hana collection we have set out to create a high-end chef knife collection that inspires creativity in the kitchen. To do this we combined Japanese steel, experienced craftsmanship, and unique London design.
The SHIROI HANA knives have been designed by Christian Bird, who wanted to create an effortlessly beautiful knife which is both aesthetic and highly functional. This is a set to be put on display, but which can be easily used every day.
The polished mirrored finish has been added benefit of highlighting the beautiful floral pattern of the Japanese steel blade and integrates seamlessly into the hallmark handle.
The innovative high carbon steel core also contains vanadium which improves the wear resistance, toughness, and ease of sharpening. The remaining layers are formed by alterations of S/S 430 and S/S 431 steel to create an outer case, protecting the valuable AUS-10 cutting core.
Every Shiroi Hana blade consists of 67 layers of premium steel, protecting the AUS-10 Japanese steel cutting core. This multi-layered steel has its origin in both Japanese Samurai and Damascene sword making.
The AUS-10 cutting core enables the edge to hold and retain a supreme sharpness. This is why it is the recommended steel for high-end chef's knives. Each blade in the Shiroi Hana Collection has this multi-layered blade.
The blade cutting angle is 35º (17.5 on each side for optimal sharpness).
Risks and challenges
We fully established relationships with some of the top factories and have worked with them on numerous projects over the past 8 years. Last year, we became the most funded Chef Knife campaign ever, and have successfully delivered to our backers. We are leveraging this experience along with our relationships with top manufacturers to provide our backers with high quality products at an affordable price.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
